Thanks to Anushka, Anushka lands in Bollywood

Following the footsteps of south heroines like Asin and Shriya, yet another south actress is all set to make it big in Bollywood.

Gorgeous Anushka would be stepping into the world of Hindi Cinema with a movie which is going to be a remake of her Telugu blockbuster Arundhathi.

The film did well at the box office, not only in the Telugu version but also when it was dubbed in Tamil and now the Hindi audiences would get a chance to cherish the great storyline of this flick.

Earlier, Asin was preferred by Producer Madhu Mantena of Geetha Arts (Producer of Aamir’s Ghajini). But then, as the producer of Telugu version M Shyam Prasad decided to make his entry into Bollywood remaking this film, Asin was dropped from the option.

Sonu Sood, who donned baddie role in Telugu version, will be performing the same role in this remake version too.

Mallika: Mingling with the Best in the West

Looks like Mallika Sherawat is a favourite in the ‘West’!

Last we heard was that the actress was invited as a special guest at a Wine-Tasting Luncheon at the Malibu Family Wines, Malibu, California. Mallika was also ‘auctioned’ there as part of a fundraiser hosted by IFFLA (Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles).

And now, while the sexy actress is in Los Angeles for the post-production work on her much-talked about project ‘Hissss’ with Hollywood Director Jennifer Lynch, she recently attended an elite luncheon hosted by the Mayor of LA.

And though the gorgeous lady has been in the city for only four short weeks, she is already rubbing shoulders with the who’s who of the glamorous city.

She will also be attending the weekend’s Fangoria Conference at the LA Convention Center to talk about ‘Hissss’ and interact with fans there.

Well, seems like Mallika Sherawat is not just a favourite among the Hollywood celebrities but is a regular on the U.S social circuit too!

I will test ride all my prospective 15 grooms: Rakhi Sawant

Rakhi Sawant get’s up front and personal regarding her marriage on NDTV Imagine's Rakhi Ka Swayamvar.

Why marriage?
I want to settle down. I have worked a lot, made good money. Now I am feeling lonely. And like all Indian woman, I too want to have a loving husband, caring in -laws and God willing, later kids as well. I also feel the need to come home to somebody after a hard day at work.

Unlike popular perception, I am quite a traditional girl at heart, I want to do my husband’s seva. I will also touch my mother in law's feet as the way to a man's heart does lie through his mother.

Will you work post marriage?
Yes I hope to work if I get time from my domestic responsibilities Dance is my passion and I would not want to leave that. Everything is possible, if I get a broad minded husband.

But sometime back on Karan Johar’s show, you had said that you will not marry?
Agreed I had said that, but then things do change. Most girls in the industry will not want to get married, until they are established.

What’s your personal take on marriage?
Marriage is a holy institution, a sacred commitment. It’s quite sad that these days’ people walk in and out of marriage in a jiffy. I believe in the age old concept of Jeena Marne Ke Kasme.

Describe your ideal dhula?
He should be smart, fit, confident, honest, caring and above all should respect woman. I will not change my lifestyle for him. I don’t go for caste, language or religion. Hence he can be a Hindu, Christian Muslim or anybody. I am open for even a good NRI groom.

Should he be rich?
He should be capable enough to take care of me. My husband should earn at least Rs 5000 a month, so he can be rickshaw driver as well. Alternatively a doctor, engineer or even actor will also do.

Would you want a ghar jamai?
No I want to move to in laws place.

Would you slap your husband like the way u clipped ex beau Abhishek?
Everybody makes mistakes and so did I in choosing him. But I am hopeful that it will not happen again and I also expect my maika NDTV Imagine to help me zero on Mr. right.

Can we expect season 2, where we will cover your divorce?
Please would you wish the same for your sister or daughter? I expect your blessing’s to have a long and blissful martial life.

There are supposed to be 15 prospective contestants, but what will happen if you like somebody quite early?
No I will check all properly. I will test ride them all.

Why marriage on TV?
I want to do things differently. I did not want to go through the normal routine of a guy coming to see me over tea and try to judge me in a short while.

On my show, I will get time to properly understand each guy and then only make an informed choice. I owe my name and fame to television; hence I want to invite the entire media to cover my wedding.

I am not like some celebrities who don’t even allow the media into their gates. They forget that its public who makes them who they are.

Why a Swayamvar?
It shows that woman have arrived and we can now choose our man. After Sita’s Swayamvar mine will be next, even if I don’t get Ram, I will surely get Shyam.

Among the celeb who would you to get married to?
Rahul Gandhi is a good bet. Hope he sees me today as I look very beautiful in the bride’s outfit. Please also mention that I would love to get hooked to a cricketer.

How should your guy propose to you?
He should come straight like Salman Khan, be open like Aamir Khan and kiss my hand like Shahrukh Khan.

You like to create publicity?
Why blame only me? what about Akshay Kumar, who gets his trouser's unzipped by his wife in public. Most other reality shows have artificial drama, but I am truthful and always speak from my heart.

Have you taken any money from the channel?
No not a pie. Why should I? This was my concept and they have graciously agreed to host it, what more can I ask for?

But they will use you for publicity?
Don’t NEWS channels do the same, when they air my sound bytes and visuals.

What are your honey moon plans?
After marriage I would like to go to Switzerland or New Zealand.

Do you have your folk’s blessing?
My mother has no idea about this plan. But I feel that this is my life and I deserve the right to choose my own life partner. I am hopeful of winning their blessings though.

What will your husband get in dahej?
You see, I am already dressed in gold. He will get India's number 1 item girl as his beloved. I also promise him love and honesty.

How will other girl’s benefit from your marriage?
Possibly other single girl’s may get inspired by my action and also hold similar swayamvars in their respective cities and towns.

Shaktida did not let me wear a bikini: Sharmila Tagore

The image of the coy beauty seated primly in a makeshift kotha singing Raina beeti jaye in Lata Mangeshkar's soulful voice pervades our senses as now.

The gorgeous Sharmila Tagore, who played the prostitute in Shakti Samanta's "Amar Prem", is deeply grieved by the death of the maker of some of the most sensitive romantic cinema of the 1970s.

"Shaktida was very straightforward, very honest. He'd tell me what he wanted to in my face. No mincing of words. And he chain-smoked in that special style with the cigarette clamped in his fist. We went back a long way.

When his son Ashim called to tell me about Shaktida's death, I remembered all the times we shared, " Sharmila told.

Sharmila remembers her beginnings in Hindi cinema with Samanta's "Kashmir Ki Kali".

"It didn't require much persuasion from Shaktida for me to agree to his film. There was that whole Bengali collection. . . the writer Sachin Bhaumick, the music director Sachindev Burman and his son Panchamda (Rahul Dev Burman). Shaktida was my mother's friend and they remained friends till the end, " she said.

After her debut in "Kashmir Ki Kali", Sharmila went bold with a vengeance in "An Evening In Paris".

"You know I remember a funny incident. As you know I wore a one-piece bathing costume in 'An Evening In Paris' and not a bikini as is generally believed. But I wanted to wear a bikini. Shaktida put his foot down. He forced me to wear a one-piece.

"I was very unconventional and self-willed during those early days. Shaktida would drill the dos and don'ts in my head. I remember at a party once I got up and started dancing with a man. Shaktida gently told me such behaviour is not allowed in our film industry, " said the veteran actress.

Samanta also taught Sharmila to be wise with finances.

"He gave me Rs 25, 000 for 'Kashmir Ki Kali' and suggested I buy land in Vile Parle. I laughed it off saying what would I do with that marshland.

Today, the same land is worth Rs. 8 crores (Rs. 80 million). He finally persuaded me to buy a flat in Mumbai. I insisted on staying at the Taj hotel. If it wasn't for him, I'd have continued to stay there, " she said.

Sharmila met the man, who gave us some of the most memorable musicals in the 1960s and 70s, for the last time in January this year.

"This was just before he suffered that stroke that finally took away his life. I was in Mumbai dubbing for a film. And it was wonderful catching up with him.

He was still very much the patriarch in charge, scolding his son Ashim, getting the office to be faster with the work. . . I was part of most of his films in the 1960s and 70s except 'Kati Patang', which I didn't do for some silly reason.

"I loved even our unsuccessful films like 'Charitraheen'. But if you ask me to choose my favourite film with Shaktida, it would have to be 'Amar Prem'. What lovely songs, music and what an era that was! God, I will miss Shaktida so much!"

The veteran filmmaker died Thursday after month-long hospitalisation in the Nanavati Hospital. He is survived by his wife and two sons. He was 83.

I'll take strong action against any false rumour of my break up: Preity Zinta

Bollywood diva Preity Zinta doesn’t looks to be in a pretty mood and has lashed out at the media for spreading rumours about her so called break up with Ness Wadia.

Preity writes at her blog post “It’s ridiculous how media sits and writes anything they feel like without even the decency and the journalistic norm of contacting all parties - well in advance - for their side of the story.”

The actress has bluntly denied the rumor, saying the journalist who wrote the story for Mumbai Mirror tried to call her up, but after the story was already published.

Preity asks “At.12.00 o’ clock, midnight (08th april 2009), I got a text message from this journo, saying ‘There’s a story about your new link-up’, and we need your comment on this.’

But when I called him back, I was told that the story was already printed and that they couldn’t do anything at that point. I was livid. So then, what was that call? And exercise in futility?”

Preity writes further at her blog post “Apparently, now they’re saying that this story came about because I was cheering for Vikram Chatwal at the Fashion Week. How ridiculous is that?

When I cheered for Shah Rukh Khan, then no one questioned me as to why I cheered him the most?

At the LFW there were also Arjun and Mehr Rampal, Rahul Bose, Ujjwala Raut - all famous celebrities and my friends; and I cheered all of them.

I cheered for all of them because the show was for Mumbai.”

“I don’t like discussing this so publicly, but the point here is, I want to clarify what is right and wrong. People cannot write anything wrong about someone and get away with it.

Especially about me, because I will take strong action against any false rumours or stories. I will fight against what is wrong, ” the actress writes.

Not only this, Preity slammed the Bollywood media, saying the paparazzi culture of Hollywood is catching up here in Bollywood.

She says, “In fact, in Hollywood the paparazzi system is really strong, but whenever there is false news, the Courts abroad are fast and quick to punish the offenders. Any false news is severely and immediately dealt with by the Courts.”

Maanyata will just be a housewife: Sanjay Dutt

Immediately after the courts declined Sanjay Dutt the opportunity to contest the Lok Sabha elections the Samajwadi Party leaders got into a huddle and decided Sanjay’s wife Maanyata should take his place in the Lucknow constituency.

To everyone’s surprise it was Sanjay Dutt who vetoed the idea.

Says a very reliable source, “The party heads were very clear on Mrs Maanyata Dutt’s candidacy after Mr Dutt was out of the fray. Surprisingly it was Sanjay Dutt who shot down the idea. For the first time Sanjay dodged his political mentor Amar Singhji’s advice and very firmly declared that his wife won’t be any part of politics.”

According to the source Sanjay is very clear on his wife’s role and function. In fact Sanjay wasn’t too keen on his sister Priya entering politics either and had advised her against it.

Says the source, “He married Maanyata because he wanted a woman who could look after his home. Maanyata too is very happy to be what the couple calls a ‘working housewife’ who looks after every aspect of Sanjay’s life from the domestic to the business side.

Maanyata handles everything from the food that Sanjay eats, to the clothes that he wears to the friends that he meets to the films that he chooses. Frankly, Sanjay Dutt panicked at the thought of his wife stepping out into the political arena.”

When Maanyata’s name came up at the emergency meeting Dutt took his political mentor aside and explained that a political career for his wife was not what he had in mind.

“To his credit Amar Singh completely understood Sanjay’s point of view and decided not to pursue the matter any further, ”says the source.

Maanyata’s name as a substitute to Sanjay’s candidature was dropped immediately…But not before Maanyata too made it clear that she was thoroughly in agreement with her husband on his refusal to let her enter politics.

Says the source, “Maanyata personally called up Amar Singh and excused herself from getting into the rajneeti fray. She told him she was more than happy being Mrs Sanjay Dutt and to look after his home. His political career, she said, would look after itself.”

The Samajwadi Party has now chalked out a political plan of action for Sanjay Dutt wherein the actor will remain actively involved with the party politics without contesting the elections.

Jhalak makers want gossip, flirting and rivalry for TRPs: Bhagyashree

Bhagyashree of Maine Pyaar Kiya fame put on her dancing shoes for the third season of reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa" but became the first one to get voted out. She says the show was more about generating gossip and creating rivalry than about dancing alone.

"For me, 'Jhalak...' was a wonderful opportunity to learn dance. But after joining, I found out that it wasn't really just a dance reality show, " Bhagyashree told over phone from Mumbai.

"They wanted a strong element of gossip, rivalry, competition, flirting, etc and I couldn't get myself to be a part of all that. It's not me and it's not the way I have been brought up, " she added.

Bhagyashree's presence on the show came as a surprise. The actress, who claimed to have two left feet when it came to dancing, says she accepted the offer because she was keen to "learn how to dance".

"When I was asked to participate, it was given that it is a programme where non-dancers would get to learn different types of dance forms and would then perform. But sadly, it didn't turn out to be so.

"People actually came up to me and said, 'Why don't you go ahead and just do something (gossip, backbiting) for TRPs?'

For me, a reality show like 'Jhalak...' was supposed to be like its international counterpart 'Dancing With The Stars' - people fall and get hurt there for real, people get angry at their choreographers if they can't learn a step - but what was happening here put me off entirely, " she said.

She disliked the way things were manipulated on the show. But Bhagyashree enjoyed working with her choreographer Toby Fernandes and performing on stage and says she won't mind going back to the show.

The show is going to have one of the evicted contestants to join back as the wild card entry and Bhagyashree says she would like to be the lucky one.

"I'm looking forward to the wild card entry because I had a fantastic choreographer and teacher in the form of Toby Fernandes. I have learnt dancing from him. The only thing I was upset about was they were trying to project me as someone else and I didn't like that. But I have forgiven them because I can't hold vengeance against anyone."

For now, the 40-year-old actress, who hails from Maharashtra, is excited about the release of her first ever Marathi film "Zhak Marli Bayko Keli".

In the film, Bhagyashree plays a woman whose husband gets romantically involved with another woman.

On being asked about her experience of doing the film, she said: "It feels wonderful to be doing a film finally in my mother tongue. I always looked forward to working in one but somehow it didn't work - either the script wasn't right or I didn't have dates or there was some or the other issue. So all these things made it nearly impossible for me to do any Marathi film."

Bhagyashree is also doing a Bollywood film titled "Red Alert - The War Within" along with Suniel Shetty.

She is looking forward to doing more films in Hindi because she feels "the industry today is booming with new themes and subjects that are being treated with a fresh perspective".

"A very different kind of cinema is being experimented with in the industry. So I would surely want to be back in Bollywood with something different."

Many guys will turn up and would die to marry her: Ravi Kishen

Rakhi Sawant surely knows how to be in news without any help of a PR.

At present the controversial girl is featured all around media with her new reality show on NDTV Imagine, Rakhi Ka Swayamvar, which would make Rakhi meet her future husband.

We spoke with some of the television celebs and tried to find out, what they think about this new show, whether they would ever have contested in such a show in which Rakhi is involved and also whether the show would earn TRP’s for the channel.

Chetan Hansraj: I don’t know much about the show but I think it’s an over hyped show.

No, I would never have been a contestant on such a show. As far as channel’s TRP is concerned, I don’t want to comment on it.

Saurav Pandey: Rakhi is a good friend of mine. I wouldn’t like to say something negative but actually I was wondering that which guy would like to marry Rakhi Sawant. I am just waiting for the show very eagerly, just to see that what type of guys will come to marry Rakhi Sawant. Guys like Salman Khan or Shah Rukh Khan.

No, I wouldn’t like to marry her as she is a good friend and I am happy to be her friend only. But I believe the channel will earn a lot of TRP from this show because everyone is looking forward to this fun and drama filled show.

Amit verma: I am speechless, what do I say but yes, I feel it’s a very unique concept; its weird as well as unique way of getting married. But I would definitely not like to try or experiment such ways of wedding. It is something that only Rakhi can do as she can only experiment on such issues. I respect her for that.

I wouldn’t like to marry her as I think Rakhi is better as a sister and I would love to have a sister as mischievous as Rakhi. I think the show will give the channel a lot of publicity and TRP. Even I am looking forward to this show. I think this show will help the channel to gain back its position.

Ravi Kishen: It’s a fantastic concept. I am happy about the show and may god bless Rakhi to get the best possible soul mate this time. She is a lonely soul and she deserves someone who can understand her well. People always tell her dramebaaz and all but I think she is a nice girl.

I know many guys will turn up and would die to marry her but I can’t because I am already married. If I would have been a bachelor then too I don’t think so I would have been a perfect match for her.

Sharad Kelkar: I don’t know much about the show, but yes I have heard about this show and its inspired by the show called bachelors. But good this concept is being used in the Indian television.

Very honestly I wouldn’t like to marry Rakhi Sawant at all but yes, she has always helped the various channels when it comes to TRP’s.

I'll do what I can to be number one and compete with SRK: Shreyas Talpade

It's a dog eat dog situation when you enter the political battlefield. You ready for it?
Well, let me clear the air. I was invited by the CM for the PM's party meet. They all spoke well and we sat there for a good couple of hours. I was accompanied by Subhash Ghai and Manmohan Shetty.

I wanted to meet our PM because I respect that person a lot but we didn't get a chance. I wasn't supporting any party as such. I was just invited and I had to honour the invite. Today our job doesn't end by going and voting.

It's a little bit more than that. Post 26/11, we all are shaken up. Ab maamla ghar tak aa gaya hain. Today, one has to be a bit more responsible and involved, and if that involvement means me getting into politics, I really don't mind. So may be in the next elections, you'll see my involvement.

There is a price you pay when you join politics. How do you deal with it?
To a certain extent it is. Every now and then you hear some candidate being shot or murdered. Politics has become dirty. Someone told me that even today; the ratio of good people is more than that of the bad.

When this same ratio is flipped, we need to be alarmed about. Having said that, there are lots more educated people coming into politics now and are trying for a change.

And things will change. Perhaps it might take two more elections or let's say one more. We have got everything inherited from our ancestors and it's time we give something back to our future generation.

It seems you've lost trust somewhere.
You're right. I've lost faith completely post 26/11. I don't trust anyone. I just want that faith to come back. The whole idea is to trust someone or someone trusts you. I was in South Africa when the Taj and Trident incident happened.

I was there for the next thirty days and missed being part of those rallies and ceremonies. I wanted to be with my India and my people in time of grief. I was frustrated. In fact, post 26/11; people have become a bit responsible if not trustworthy.

With so many successors ahead of you, as a youngster, how far do you want to reach in politics?
Let's say in acting, I want to be number one. I want to be the best and I'll do what I can to compete with SRK, Ranbir Kapoor or whoever. Politics is a completely different ball game all together.

Politics is all about coming together than competing with each other. My idea is not to be the PM of India. But even if I can do something in my locality, it'll be great. If I can make my area secured, I've won my election.

How much room is there for idealism in political leadership and achieving your goals?
I think idealism is the factor that'll prompt you or motivate you to do certain things. The word idealism exists but it's time we need to give some meaning and depth to it.

Each party started off with some ideology and down the line we see that it has gone for a complete toss. Few days back I read an interview where Mr. Sanjay Dutt was asked about his manifesto which stated that the party will ban English and there won't be computers, machines won't be used for farming, etc.

When asked Mr. Dutt on his comments about the manifesto, he said, "I was busy campaigning. I didn't have time to read it". My question is - What was Mr. Dutt campaigning about? I think that things are really going wrong somewhere. Is there any room for idealism here?

Do you ever stop and think back how you could've handled things differently if you weren't an actor?
I don't know what I would've done. Probably get a stable job in a nationalized bank. And before you ask why a bank job, because there is an inter bank drama competition. That's how my hobby can be fulfilled.

If a young person came to you who wanted to live a life of activism, a political life, what would your advice be to him?
When I started doing Iqbal, there was one thing that Nagesh Kukunoor told me that if I ever wanted to succeed as an actor, I just needed to be honest with myself and the character I was portraying. I'd like to advice all youngsters to be honest to themselves in whatever they do.

What do you see as the biggest challenge ahead? Not just for you and India, but for the world which is heading quick in the 21st century?
At the moment, the biggest problem we are facing is security. Every side and part of the world is under tremendous tension.

We are more worried now and want to find out who has come to live next to us, meaning our neighbours. Who are they? Where have they come from? etc. The trust and security issue is what we need to handle in the current scenario.

Most of our revenue is going in defense services, arms and ammunitions. So if that's the case, why is there a lapse in security each year? Get it sorted man!

Tomorrow if you join politics, what would be your Indian Dream?
Everybody wants to see India on the global map, the next super power, etc. That's secondary. I want to get my faith back and that's my primary concern. And not just me.

The whole nation wants to get their sense of security and faith in the political scenario and the security of our country. If they can do that, I'll be like a King. That for me is my Indian Dream.

Are you happy in the small space you've made for yourself in the industry?
I am very happy. I am also ambitious and want to grow and achieve a lot of things. I know I will but want to give a bit of time to it. I want to stay here for a long time.

So with the pace I'm going, I am safe and sound. But in my entire journey, I'd love to work with Raj Kumar Santoshi because I think he has got a very honest and an aggressive approach towards all his films.

Mani Ratnam is the next director I'd love to work with because of his superb and diverse filmography. Having said that, I've also worked with a completely different school of directors. From Nagesh and Shyam Benegal to Farah Khan.

I don't dig for men: Aarti Chabaria

Q. What type of man do you dig for?
A. First of all, I don’t dig for man. I prefer a self-made man, who’s down to earth. One who’s loving and caring. Someone who understands me and pampers me a lot. He should have respect for my parents. He should also have a killer smile.

Q. Your favourite romantic getaway would be…
A. Gold coast. It’s a beautiful beach in Australia. In India, it would be Goa.

Q. Do you believe that men are from mars and women from Venus?
A. No. I don’t.

Q. Which man inspires you the most?
A. My dad for the person he is. He is head strong, focused in life, very intelligent and educated. He has taught me that money isn’t all that matters in life. He believes in good will. He has proved to be a great husband and the greatest father.

Q. If given a chance to date a historical character who would he be and why?
A. Hitler. Maybe I would have brought out the romantic angle in him and prevented Second World War from taking place.

Q. You believe in one night stand or commitment?
A. Definitely, commitment.

Q. Can a man and a woman have a platonic relationship?
A. People say that a man and a woman can’t be friends, but I believe that they can take care of each other without any sexual feelings attached to it.

Q. Your first crush?
A. There was a cute boy residing in my society. I used to go and stand for my school bus half an hour before to take a glimpse of this boy.

Q. Your take on institution of marriage from the point of view of you being a bachelor?
A. Indian culture and rashams are very rich and meaningful. Our traditions and culture should definitely be followed. I feel marriage is a very important part of anyone’s life.

Q. What would you do if your man is found to be a gay?
A. First of all, I can never fall for a guy who’s a gay. His body language and behaviour would easily suggest his state.

Q. Is the sense of humour most important to you?
A. It’s not the most important. The most important is that the guy should love me. There should be an argument between us on the fact that who loves whom the most.

Well, she also steps ahead by talking about her definition of success, fan mails, marriage, her pick on luck or destiny, and a million other questions. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi - DVD Review

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi MOVIE DETAILS

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Vinay Pathak
Director: Aditya Chopra
Producer: Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra
Music: Salim-Sulaiman
Lyrics: Jaideep Sahni

THE FILM

If at all one has to hail a superb climax for a film, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi would be the forerunner by a long distance. In fact, it's the very climax of the film which makes it such an endearing watch that one is tempted to watch it all over again. The point where Anushka starts realizing that Raj and Suri are the same person, the film's graph reaches a high point. While Suri is dancing in the way Raj was doing in all the rehearsals, the expressions on Anushka's face have to be seen to be believed as she looks all perplexed and bewildered while her body is dancing mechanically to the tune of 'Dancing Jodi'. This is the point where Aditya Chopra demonstrates a great hold of the proceedings as the sense of surprise and guilt is mixed well with some excellent support from the music and choreography departments.

So why has the climax been described at the very beginning of this review? The reason is simple. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi could never have been the film that it eventually turned out to be if not for it's brilliant climax. This is one heartwarming sequence that forces you to go back and revisit this dramatic romantic tale which indeed was different. No wonder, the film turned out to be one of the biggest blockbusters of Shah Rukh's career when released late last year.

Of course, an excellent climax by no means undermines a very good start that the film's narrative takes. Right from the moment Shah Rukh and Anushka get married out of the blue to the time Anushka declares that she could never love Shah Rukh to the time Shah Rukh starts making adjustments in his life - it is one emotional journey that results in moist eyes for majority of viewers. In fact your heart goes out to the man as he starts falling in love with the girl 'haule haule'. Raj is a clear alter ago of Suri as he does everything that Suri could never imagine doing. He breaks rules, flirts around, is all goofy - and all of this is to gain access to the love which he couldn't find in his own house from his own wife.

Presentation of this dilemma could have been shown in multiple ways. Either it may have turned out to be an out and out comedy with a Golmaal kind of a narrative or it could have gone an intellectual way with the metaphor being on your face or it could have become an out and out art house cinema. However, Aditya Chopra applies a different route altogether and comes up with a dramatic love story that has quite a few heartwarming moments interspersed into the narrative. Of course, cinematic liberties are quite a few, but then all of that is attributed to 'rab' since it is conveniently declared that it is HE who decides what should happen and what shouldn't!

The movie does fizzle a little towards the pre-climax because by that time the audience starts craving for some action on screen but there is none of that that takes place. The Sumo wrestling sequence is truly forced and leads to yawns instead of smiles. But as said earlier, it's the entire segment of the film towards the very end that brings back spark into the proceedings. And the spark is such that it just fires up the screen and illuminates it strongly enough to leave a lasting impression.

PACKAGING

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi wins brownie points for an excellent plastic casing that it comes in. While the trademark Suri/Raj twin effect is available yet again on the inlay card, the overall presentation of the DVD lends it an exclusive touch.

DURATION

The film's duration is 164 minutes

SPECIAL FEATURES

The film comes with the bonus features that include:

- The Making of the Film
- The Making of the Songs ('Haule Haule', 'Dance Pe Chance', 'Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte')
- Deleted Scenes
- SRK Unplugged
- SRK and Anushka in conversation

For a major part of the audience, it's a pleasure to hear Shah Rukh talk about films, whether they are his own or of others. In the DVD of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, one gets to hear Shah Rukh talk about the film for more than an hour which is quite some bonus, especially for those who loved the film. He talks, and talks and continues to talk and what makes it special is the animated tone that he applies while explaining his character, the mannerisms, the reasons behind signing the film, the bond that he shares with Aditya Chopra, the rapport he shared with Anushka and most interestingly, the real life characters on whom he based Suri and Raj!

With quite a lot to offer to the viewers, the DVD takes them behind the scenes with ample footage of what really happened on the sets, the rehearsals, song recording and some hilarious goof ups. Also watch out for all the innovation and improvisations that the actors (especially Shah Rukh) indulged in while the shots were being canned. Though it's a disappointment not to see or hear an ever elusive Aditya Chora, Shah Rukh along with Anushka and other crew members more than make up for it.

Especially interesting is the part where choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant talks about the challenges that she faced while shooting 'Haule Haule' since it required her to capture the entire act in one single frame. Have a look at how the feat was ultimately accomplished! Moreover, Shah Rukh also reveals how before working on Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, he and Aditya Chopra had all the plans to work in a hardcore action film before the latter decided to kick start a love story!

And then lastly, there is this really involving conversation between Shah Rukh and Anushka which had made quite an impression when it was first seen in the world of internet and TV after the release of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Relive the moments as you get an opportunity to be privy to this entire conversation as it is included as a part of the bonus DVD.

The disappointing part of this DVD though is the 'Deleted Scenes' section. There are as many as six deleted scenes included here but not even a single scene stands out. In fact they were best left out of the final cut even though all of them featured Shah Rukh Khan. While a couple of them have Shah Rukh and Vinay Pathak in a conversation, the remaining feature Anushka Sharma. However, all of them are best forgotten after they are seen for the first time.
