Prateik Babbar says he will Patch up Sallu & SRK

Call him overambitious or just plain foolhardy, but Prateik has a dream that he wants to make happen before the release of his next film My Friend Pinto. The actor has vowed to bring the two warring Khans-Shah Rukh and Salman-together. Says the actor, "I can't understand why they're not friends! They're both so comfortable with their stardom and not threatened by anyone else's success. They're wonderful human beings. I know them both and I love them equally. I want to bring them together because I see it as a futile war." Interestingly, the newbie claims to have done what many (more established and respected seniors) in the industry have tried and failed. He alleges that the two superstars have actually agreed to listen to his patch-up plan for them! Wisely, he decides not to reveal all at the moment. "I am not telling you my exact plan because I'm superstitious But, yes, I'm working on it.
On the day of the premiere of my film My Friend Pinto, I hope to be flanked by Salman and Shah Rukh. I even hope they will do a dance with me.... one of peace and friendship." The actor goes on to praise both Khans. "I grew up hero-worshipping both Salman and Shah Rukh. I identify with both of them. Like Salman, I am considered a star-kid. But like Shah Rukh, I feel like an outsider in the film industry," he says. Prateik is confident he will bridge the gap between his two role models. "What is their problem with one another? It's all very strange! I am going to get to the bottom of it. Imagine how wonderful it would be if they both become friends... I will manage it."

Every daughter is a laadli: SRK

On the launch of the Laadli Week celebrations, Shah Rukh ‘King’ Khan said, “Not everybody is blessed with a daughter; only lucky people are blessed with this bundle of joy. Every daughter is a ‘Laadli’, she is very special. Especially for a father, she is his laadli, his life’s ultimate desire; she is his life.”

Star Plus’ Laadli Week, which begins April 13, in association with the KC Mahindra Educational Trust’s Project Nanhi Kali, will see a series of fundraising and awareness creation events through promotions to educate underprivileged girl children in India. The week comprises of activities which will bring a smile on the children’s faces and give them memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Taking out time from the IPL mania, Saurav Ganguly said, “Everybody questions me about my most memorable moment — making a century in my test debut, winning a series in England or getting into the world cup finals. But the most memorable time is the time that I spend playing hide and seek with my seven-year-old daughter. Her smile is priceless; no trophy and no award can come closer to matching it.”

Known for her support to women’s causes in India and also an idol for many people across the country, Kiran Bedi, the host of Aap Ki Kachehri, a show that created waves on Indian television said, “I was my parent’s ‘Laadli’. It’s because of my parents’ upbringing that I am what I am today. It entirely depends upon the parents on how they bring up their girl child, educate her, make her financially self-reliant and get her the self respect she deserves. I am happy that the channel is celebrating the girl child week as ‘Laadli Week’ as the number of girl children in India is decreasing. And this is not happening because of poverty but mentality. If you think that you girls are weak, it’s not them but your upbringing which is weak.”

She further added, “If my parents had the same thought process, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Their thinking was strong and therefore I grew up to be a strong individual. You can also do the same. Bring up you girl child with care, make her self reliant; self reliance will come with education and self reliance is power. If you do this, your girl children will respect you more and will care of you for life. Make your faith in your girl child strong.”

That’s not all; even the telestars who are the laadlis of their parents onscreen as well as in real life are supportive of this initiative. Popular Sara Khan aka Sadhana of Sapna Babul ka–Bidaai said, “This is an excellent initiative. I think we should promote girls as people think that girls are not doing anything and therefore girls are a bane in our lives. These days, maximum high rankers in schools are girls. We have often heard in the news that girls are making new records in academics and every other field as they are very capable. This initiative, supporting the education of 600 girls every year, will make a great difference. I think this will work as an eye opener for those who are still silent when it comes to educating and helping orphan girls.”

Further added Parul Chauhan, the newly wed Ragini of Sapna Babul ka - Bidaai, “Being a girl, I completely support this cause. I believe the happiness of building a new life for an orphan girl is completely out of the world. If all of us could spare a small share of our income towards the life of a girl child then we can really make a difference.”

The fresh new face on television, Hina Khan, who plays Akshara in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, said, “I am very glad to be a part of this platform where one can speak up for the girl child. It is really sad that even today people do a sex determination of their unborn child and choose not to have a girl child. The strength of a woman is something that is not recognized even today. A platform has been created for people to speak up for the girl child and to come forward and help in whatever way they can... financially or just by moral support. I am proud to be a part of this and proud to be a woman.”

As a part of the initiative, winners of a contest will also have the chance to have their daughter featured in the show Sabki Laadli Bebo.

SRK's Korbo, Lorbo... is passe

Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re – these were the lyrics of the Kolkata Knight Riders anthem last year.

But that was when the IPL was held in India. Now, since the tournament has shifted to South Africa, SRK’s team has also changed its anthem, so that supporters there can easily chant it when the team takes to the field. “The tournament has moved to SA. Keeping that in view, the anthem Korbo, Lorbo... has been changed. The beats are different and the lyrics too will have a more international feel to it,” said a source close to the team.

Looks like Shah Rukh Khan is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the success of his team this time round. That might be the reason why there are rumours that the video of the song will also be re-shot. “SRK has heard the song and there are talks of a new video being shot for it. But nothing is confirmed as of now,” informed the source. The original video for the song featured SRK in the team’s golden-and-black colours – wearing a dhoti in Kolkata ishtyle. Do you have a golden-black bermuda in mind now, Shah Rukh?

One day a film crew, including its superstar Sahil Khan, visits Billo's village to shoot a movie. When the villagers learn that Sahil was Billo's school friend, they give the barber the respect he craves.

But Billo is also unsure on meeting Sahil. Due to his superstar status he fears the star may not recognise him. After many unsuccessful attempts of getting in touch with Sahil, Billo gives up. He is branded a liar by the villagers and his family.

But all ends well when Sahil is invited to the village school function. He reveals his past to all present about a close friend he had at school who always stood by him in his hour of need.

Back with Kat, Sallu tells how SRK stabbed him in back

Rumour has it that director Subhash Ghai is planning to remake his 80s big hit 'Hero' and he wants none other than Salman Khan for the lead role.

A close source has said, "Yes, Subhash ji is planning to remake 'Hero' and has already thought about the actors. Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif are his first choice of lead role.

Salman will play Jackie Shroff and Katrina the role of Meenakshi Sheshadri. The new 'Hero' will be different from the original and will be made for the audience now and will be an up-to-date version.

Subhash ji is planning to shoot the film after 'Yuvvraaj' releases at an overseas location and hopes to complete it within 90 days, so that he can release it for end of 2009."

Salman Khan himself has also reportedly talked about it, "I had heard two three scripts before 'Yuvvraaj'. The scripts were good but I couldn't play those characters. I wanted him to make 'Hero' with me but Subhash ji said we would make it later. Then he came up with 'Yuvvraaj'."

On a similar note, Sallu displayed a different kind of heroism when he talked about his hurt over SRK's behaviour.

He' said in a tell-all interview, "As soon as Shah Rukh left the party, he started calling up the media!

I didn't speak till one week after the fight because he was trying to put me in the middle of something which is not cool from any angle! That is the time I stood up and started speaking. There is no reason for disrespect.

Everybody messes up. I have messed up also not once but so many times, without any malice, any manipulation or agenda. If things go wrong between two buddies we say 'okay buddy let's hang out together and sort it out' but if you are going to mess up and disrespect me then forget it, "

He's added, "The right side of my head is my heart. I will always do what is right. I am human man! I am trying to be human.

I have lots of flaws but I am taking care of that. But there are some things I don't have jealousy, incompetence, insecurity and maliciousness. I don't have a temper either, though I may get angry. And if I am wrong, I have the courage to call up and apologise.

Say sorry and I am fine. What I say is what I do. I don't say something and do something else and think of something totally different."

Now after hearing his side of the story straight from the heart, one would in need have to say that this one's a real here, one of a kind in B-Town! -

Vivek is an idiot but who is SRK: Salman Khan

Salman Khan is in no mood to make peace with his enemies.

Of late he's been giving a lot of honest answers. So honest, that it can very well become very hard for the rest to handle!

A couple of years back when he was angry with John Abraham, he'd shockingly said, "Who's John Abraham?"

Now he's busy making his displeasure evident about SRK.

In a recent interview with a foreign magazine he's asked, "Who's SRK? I have never heard about him before."

Well, his remarks on actor Vivek Oberoi were even harsher.

He's said, "Vivek Oberoi is merely a guy who likes to stand next to celebrities for photographers to click at him. I would just call him an idiot"

Sallu is in no mood to forgive and forget. After all VO did offend him big time some five years ago because of a certain Miss Ash.

But then the guy still has nothing to say against ex love Ash or her family.

He's said, "I am friendlier with the Bachchan family. I have paired up with Amitabh Bachchan for a couple of films and a flick with Abhishek Bachchan. They are good performers on the screen and it was nice working with them".

This one sure seems to be a brutally honest guy!

Everyone's invited to Shah Rukh's party

It’s Shah Rukh Khan’s 17th wedding anniversary. And all his fans in the UAE are invited to the party. Arjun Rampal revealed that October 25, the day on which SRK’s Temptation Reloaded 2008 show is scheduled in Dubai, is the star’s wedding anniversary.

“It’s rare for him to get permission from wife Gauri to have a show on this day. So we are going to make it a memorable night,” said the actor.

Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Hard Kaur, Anusha Dandekar and Ganesh Hegde are among the stars slated to perform along with SRK and Arjun at the show to be held at the Dubai Festival City Arena.

SRK and Arjun spoke about the show at a press conference in Dubai held on Thursday at the Country Club Hotel, the main sponsor of the event.

It was the most badly organised press conference we have ever attended and we hope the show will be better organised. But despite the crowds of fans at the venue and SRK having to pass the single mike around to the organisers and sponsors who spoke before him, the actor kept his cool and was as witty and charming as ever. He answered questions about his films, endorsements, cricket and controversies.

“As you get older, occasions like anniversaries become moments to celebrate the love I share with my family. So I am happy that my family, friends and fans will be with me on that day. The show will be informal and you can see me be funny and make a fool of myself like I usually do with my family. These shows are not about displaying my talent. They are about getting in touch with my audience to say a personal thank you. It is our way of hosting a party for those who have given me a lot of love,” said SRK.

“It has been four years since I performed in the UAE and we want to give our best. Although Arjun and I are not good dancers, we have been rehearsing hard to match steps with Katrina and Kareena. We will dance and jump our hearts out and make sure that everyone has a great time and feels entertained,” he added.

Here’s our pick of five SRK quips of the day:

Between Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Raj Thakeray, who would you like to invite for tea?
SRK: I don’t drink tea. I drink coffee or Pepsi. And invitations to our house are decided by my wife. But jokes apart all three are old friends and would make for interesting teatime conversation. And I can tell you that they all behave like gentlemen at teatime.

Are you a better actor or property developer?
That is for my audience and the people who buy the homes to decide.

Will the financial crisis affect your plans for SRK Boulevard?
My timing was perfect wasn’t it? But my partners tell me that people will still need houses.

After movies, cricket and property, which other field do you want to get into?
I would like to do something for the education of kids and women. I respect women and really want to do something for all the women of the Eastern world.

Will you join the Country Club?
I had a lower middle class upbringing and was not fortunate enough to go to clubs, so I am not used to the club culture. My wife is a member of all the clubs and I just go along.

Crowd goes berserk, fan faints at Shah Rukh Khan press conference

Dubai: A girl fainted while waiting outside the hotel to catch a glimpse of Bollywood charmer Shah Rukh Khan and was rushed to hospital, while inside it was pandemonium at a press conference venue.

Fans shouted, “Shah Rukh we love you,” as sponsors of the show had invited hundreds of guests while some people with cameras posed as photographers to get closer to the star.

Shah Rukh is in Dubai for the Temptation Reloaded 2008 show at Dubai Festival City Arena on Saturday. The sponsors expect a huge crowd and will open the gates at 3 pm for the 9 pm show.

The press conference venue at the Country Club seemed very small for the number of guests invited and there were more fans than media persons. As the conference ended, teenagers ran behind the star seeking his autograph.

The Khan entourage at the show includes Bollywood beauties Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and UK-based singer Hard Kaur dancing to their hit Bollywood numbers.

'I have reached a point in my life where I don't have to do live shows for money. It's not about the money anymore nor do I think it's a platform to showcase our talents. Such dance shows are my way of thanking my fans for their support and their love,' says Khan in his signature exuberant yet self-effacing style.

Unfortunately, his loyal fan-base on seeing their superhero at an arm's length got a bit carried away. Girls swooning and dozens pushing against the flimsy barricades to catch a glimpse of the actor was the order of the evening.

Asked if he regretted his decision of turning into a property developer in the UAE earlier this month considering the dismal economic climate, Khan said he was optimistic about the scenario.

'Yes, the timing was a bit off. But I am positive that it would turn all around. And honestly, the global recession has not touched us as yet. In my opinion, recession is not going to take people away from their homes or their decision to buy one,' says Khan.

The actor is now involved in a Dh8 billion (US$2.18bn) residential development on Dana Islands in Ras al Khaimah.

Meanwhile, the reticent actor Arjun Rampal, who has found success recently as a guitar-toting musician in the movie Rock On!, promised to kick up a storm in true head-banging style.

Khan was quick to pitch in that the extravaganza would be a testament to all the gruelling rehearsals.

'We have put in a lot of hardwork and though we may not look as good as Kareena or Katrina, you will not return home disappointed.'

Health trouble predicted for Shah Rukh

Renowned numerologist Sanjay B. Jumaani had predicted Amitabh Bachchan will have 'stomach trouble', and that too on his birthday.

Though unfortunate, Bachchan was hospitalised owing to stomach trouble on October 11, validating Sanjay's prediction which he had done two days prior.

After Big B, Sanjay has now predicted health trouble for Shah Rukh Khan.

"Shah Rukh is entering his 44th year and the addition of 4 + 4 amounts to number 8, which represents Saturn or Shani that can cause over anxiety, stress, blood pressure and diabetes.

“Again I am hoping I am wrong. I was, of course, very moved by Mr. Bachchan's plight and conveyed my concern to his family," says Sanjay Jumaani.

Well, only time will tell if SRK will go under the weather or sail through the not-so-favourable times ahead. We truly hope he does!

The other side of King Khan

By the time this appears for readers, the Great Khan will have come back from Singapore where he went to visit the ZEE Carnival on October 11 and 12. It was easier to catch him from Changi airport in Singapore than it is to nail him down in India. Shah Rukh Khan, the unquestioned Badshah of Bollywood, opened out a side of him not easily seen in film glossies. This quote-centred profile offers a glimpse of this mega successful star, producer, television anchor and businessman, son of the late Meer Taj Mohammed Khan and Lateef Fatima, whose greatest regret in life is that his parents are no more around to share his success. Our correspondent offers us a glimpse about the same.

Did you know that Shah Rukh Khan finished reading Gregory David Roberts' 'Shantaram' much before the book hit Indian bookstores and recommended it to some of his producer friends? 'I asked them if they would want to make a film based on the book but there was no response. Now Hollywood has taken it,' says the star whose home library has a collection of more than 5000 books of which there are at least three he wants to turn into films. 'The other two I have really enjoyed are Mark Haddon's murder mystery - 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' and Yann Martel's fantasy adventure 'Life of Pi'. Right now, my reading priorities are focused on biopics about people who have led interesting lives.'

Now look who is talking. He has led and is leading one of the most interesting lives himself on planet earth. His face is an icon that represents the Indian film industry in the world. But he began small, with a bit of theatre in Delhi followed by not very significant roles in a few television serials like 'Fauji' in 1988 followed by 'Circus'. Few remember that he wooed his wife Gauri for eight years before they tied the knot 17 years ago. 'Gauri has known me for almost 25 years now and she understands me perfectly. I would not call her my pillar of strength simply because we have not known life separate from each other. What has sustained the relationship is the tremendous faith we have in each other. I have never looked inside her purse or even glanced into her wardrobe,' says Khan who turns 43 next month with an acting roster that goes beyond 60 films seven being his own productions. His roles have been a veritable rainbow of colours ranging from the psychopathic killer in DARR and ANJAAM to the star incarnate in OM SHANTI OM to the sickeningly melodramatic adopted son in KHABIE KHUSHI KABHIE GAM to the stern but determined Kabir Khan in CHAK DE. 'I am a lot like the no-nonsense hockey coach Kabir Khan in CHAK DE minus that stern stuff,' he confides.

Though he admits that the Indian film industry has a lot to learn from Hollywood 'In terms of organisation, technology and its distribution network, the stories are right here with us, in Bollywood. Our fantasies are attainable. Our fantasies are smaller. They are about having a house, perhaps a small car. We are not bothered about aliens,' obviously referring to Hollywood blockbusters like DEEP IMPACT and INDEPENDENCE DAY. And he has every right to make this statement because most of his fantasies sell extremely well both in the national and in the international market. OM SHANTI OM (2007) produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, his own production house, was the highest grossing Hindi film last year earning $45 million across the world. Some of the biggest hits in Bollywood over the past 10 years have Shah Rukh starring in them. Among these are - DIL TO PAGAL HAI (1997), KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI (1998), KABHIE KHUSHI KABHIE GAM (2001), CHAK DE (2007) and OM SHANTI OM (2007.)

He is all praise for choreographer-director Farah Khan who choreographed that famous chhaiyan chhaiyan number on top of a moving train in Mani Ratnam's DIL SE and went on to direct Shah Rukh in MAIN HOON NA (2004) and OM SHANTI OM. 'Women directors have a typical approach towards making films. They are sensitive and emotional. But Farah has gone for sheer entertainment and has the balls to make films precisely the way men make films and I respect her for that,' he says.

Things he will never do on screen are - riding a horse and kissing a girl. 'I am extremely shy of women and perhaps that is why I romance them so well when we are just playing make believe characters on screen,' is his surprising comment. 'I have been fortunate to have worked with some of the most beautiful and talented women in Indian cinema and at least half of my success goes to their credit. They have contributed to my dance numbers and to my appearance by teaching me how to look good. I am what I am because of what they have helped me to become,' says Shah Rukh with a modesty that belies the public image his publicity machinery as carefully constructed for him over the years. Incidentally, he is pairing opposite the heroine with who he has made fine screen chemistry in every film - Kajol. The shooting of Karan Johar's MY NAME IS KHAN with Kajol as his leading lady is scheduled to begin next year. He now has his sights fixed to the release of his current under-production RAB NE BANA DI JODI opposite 18-year-old model Anushka Sharma.

He hates to talk about his back problem caused by his grueling work schedules that demanded the insertion of a titanium disc into his spine for prolapsed disc in 2004. May be that is what stops him from riding a horse for his roles in films. 'What is the point of giving thousands of my fans who love and adore me so much something that they might needlessly worry about? Why should I burden them with a little pain I should be able to cope with myself?' he asks, rhetorically. He prefers to remain silent about documentaries made on his life, books written on him and the unceasing number of awards that keep flowing in. Because, in his opinion, 'None of this would have been possible without help of my co-stars.'

Do you know what Shah Rukh means? It means 'face of the king.' This is one 'king' who hosts television shows with a grace so natural that it charms you and takes you by surprise at the same time. It is the same man who tamed his unruly lock of thick black hair with a mix of homemade glue and water when he began his career in films. This is one 'king' who loves to dote on son Aryan, 11, and daughter Suhana, 8, who think 'I am the best dad in the world because they do not have much of a choice.' Shah Rukh insists that he never crosses a red light, and is a law-abiding citizen. But after this, he lights up his cigarette, unable to stick to this new law of not smoking.

SRK to retire in 3 years

A source reveals, “Shah Rukh knows that his time in Bollywood as an actor is limited. An actor can only go on for so long and with the kind of roles he plays – young romantics – then he will not be able to do that for any longer. He is already getting old. Shah Rukh hopes to retire from films within the next ¾ years after which he will concentrate on production business. Shah Rukh will not make a complete exit from acting but intends to star in at least one film per year, but this will be for his own banner and the role will be of a supporting actor.”

The source adds, “Shah Rukh has already started looking – and it has just been announced – for land in Dubai where he intends to build housing and shopping complexes. It is on this patch of land that Shah Rukh will build his much famous abode Mannat. He has already told his wife Gauri to make the plans and get the ideal design created. It has to be identical to Mannat in Mumbai. The Khans are much fond of this house.”

Well that’s a sad news but we wish SRK good luck in whatever he desires.

Shah Rukh Khan : Fortune of the King

Find out in this soul-baring interview why this member of Bollywood royalty, whose parents named him ‘face of the king’, is often in tears. Deepika Shetty unravels the mystery called Mr.Shah Rukh Khan.

TO his tens of millions of fans, actor and producer Shah Rukh Khan is the unrivalled King of Bollywood, known for his macho film persona.

But the high-energy, fast-talking superstar, who is in Singapore this weekend for the Zee Carnival, showcasing Indian entertainment, gives a rare glimpse of his sensitive side in an hour-long telephone interview from Mumbai.

India’s top romantic leading man confesses that in real life, he is “painfully shy of women”. Khan, who turns 43 next month and has been married to Gauri Khan for 17 years, with whom he has two children, adds: “I am just very shy of girls. I have never looked into my wife’s purse or her wardrobe.”

The man who is everywhere in India €“ from movie billboards in the streets and shows on TV to making headlines for buying a cricket team and supporting the recent Bollywood film workers’ strike - also has another surprising revelation.

He says he is “an intensely private and reclusive man” who cries when he thinks of his late parents.

Khan’s Muslim parents - Meer Taj Mohammad Khan and Lateef Fatima - died before he found fame in Bollywood and to this day, he mourns the loss that time cannot heal.

He says: “I often go to the terrace of my home and cry. I cry not because they haven’t been able to see the successful side of me, I cry because even if I was a complete failure, they would have wished me well and loved me unconditionally. Sometimes I cry over silly things, like my car breaking down.

“I end up saying, ‘Mum, I wish you were around, you could have told me what to do.’ Even my kids know that it’s okay to see their dad cry.”

Another thing he does not talk about much publicly is his bad back, caused by his gruelling work schedule and risky action sequences. He became a man of steel after a titanium disc was inserted into his spine for a prolapsed disc in 2004.

But he says: “I don’t like to talk about it simply because so much love, so much goodness has been given to me by my fans over the years. I don’t want to bog them down with the little pain I am dealing with.”

He promises his fans will only see the good stuff when he visits Singapore for the Zee Carnival, organised by the Indian Television network at the Suntec Convention Centre (yesterday and today). Khan and TV stars such as Aditya Narayan, Raja Hasan, Iqbal Khan, Poonam Jatau, and Sharad and Kirti Kelkar will make several appearances. Also present is India’s celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor.

Beyond his fans, Khan also stands by the people he works with. He called off his shoots and lent his support to the protest by Bollywood workers about low wages, late payments and the persistent use of non-union actors. (The strike ended after two days on Oct 3.)

The star, who has an 11-year-old son, Aryan, and a daughter, Suhana, eight, declares: “People think I am flamboyant. I am not at all like that. I’m becoming more and more reclusive. All I do is work and spend time with my family.”

Of course, there is much more to him than that daily grind. His face represents the largest film industry in the world. India produces more than 1,000 films a year, of which a third are in Hindi, India’s official language, and their estimated viewership is said to be 3.6 billion annually - that is a billion more than Hollywood.

Though the numbers may be tipping in favour of Bollywood, he believes there are things that the Indian film industry can learn from Hollywood: “In terms of organisation, technology and its distribution network, it is way ahead of us. I have a lot of respect for these aspects of Hollywood. But I think the stories are with us here in Bollywood.”

Critics often say Bollywood’s plots are far-fetched. Actors can go through multiple costume changes and the location can go anywhere from Agra to the Alps in a single song sequence.

No-nos on screen

But Khan does not think Indian cinema is all fantasy. Referring to themes of Hollywood blockbusters such as Deep Impact and Independence Day, he says: “To me, the president of the United States saving the world from a meteorite is an amazing fantasy.”

On the other hand, “our fantasies are achievable; our fantasies are smaller - they are about having a house, a small car. We are not bothered about aliens”.

Those fantasies certainly sell. He has delivered some of the biggest hits in Bollywood, including Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) to more recent ones such as Chak De! India (2007) and Om Shanti Om (2007).

And that is despite the fact that he says there are some things he would never do on screen: “I won’t ride a horse and I won’t kiss a girl.”

He adds: “I think it’s because I am so painfully shy of women that I romance them so well as a character on screen.”

Khan has acted in more than 60 films and produced seven of his own. His roles have been as varied as the films he has made though one onscreen character does come close to the real Khan.

“I am a lot like the no-nonsense hockey coach Kabir Khan in Chak De, though I am not that stern,” he adds with a laugh.

A lot has been written about Khan - documentaries have been made on his life, there are books on him and the awards keep coming. But he feels a lot of this would not have happened without help from his co-stars.

“I have been blessed to work alongside some of the most beautiful and talented women in the industry. I owe at least half of my success to these women. Among other things, they have taught me how to dance and how to look good. I am what I am because of what they have done for me.”

He holds a special place for choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan, who directed him in Om Shanti Om and Main Hoon Na (2004).

“Women directors end up making films a certain way. They are sensitive and emotional. But Farah has gone for sheer entertainment. She has the balls to make a film like a man. I respect that,” says Khan.

And when he is not talking or making films, he likes to settle down with a book.

His home library has a collection of more than 5,000 books, of which there are at least three that he wants to turn into films.

“Other talented film-makers are already doing that, though. I read Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts even before it came to India and asked my director friends if they’d want to make a film - now Hollywood has taken it. Two other books I’ve enjoyed a lot are Mark Haddon’s murder mystery The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and Yann Martel’s fantasy adventure Life of Pi.”

For now, he has his eyes peeled on biopics. “I am interested in biopics about people who have led interesting lives.”

During the lengthy interview, he breaks only to call out for a cup of coffee and a cigarette.

The temptation to light up comes despite the fact that India’s Health Ministry has said it planned to bombard the actor with literature detailing the harm caused by cigarettes. (A ban on smoking in public places took effect in India on Oct 2.)

When asked about his light-up during the interview, this very public man with a very private persona says ruefully: “I am law-abiding to the extent of being stupid sometimes. I never beat a red light, I always obey the rules. Of course, my cigarette-smoking is always getting me into trouble.”

Shah Rukh Khan's 'big' patch up!

SRK reportedly extended the olive branch and patched up with the Bachchans at the premiere of 'Drona' recently.

The buzz is that nobody expected to see SRK there and that too with his entire family- wife Gauri and kids in tow! He warmed up to Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan and even Aishwarya Rai Bachchan!

Now everybody knows how things between SRK and Ash turned bitter six years ago when he replaced her with Rani Mukerji in his movie 'Chalte Chlate' after her then boyfriend Salman Khan( with whom she was breaking up) created a ruckus on the sets?

The buzz is that during those days SRK and wife Gauri were also pleading Salman's case with Ash and her parents after she lost all interest in him!

Shah Rukh and Ash didn't work together or publicly acknowledge each other thereafter!

And now here King Khan was at the premiere hugging Big B, laughing and talking with Abhishek and Aishwarya and posing for photographs. He also didn't forget to tell people that the war between him and the Bachchans is only media created.

Looks like SRK's is in the serious need of friends after his recent big fight with Salman Khan. The Bollywood bad boy started shunning him completely after that, almost creating a divide in the industry.

Moreover his 'King' status has been challenged big time with the rise of the box office king, with a new name King Kumar being coined for him (we mean Akshay Kumar).

The Bachchans who have their own insecurities (which now also includes their over ambitious 'Drona' biting the dust) must have been happy to oblige.

Wonder what happens to the new found Abhishek - Salman yaari ( or it also another illusion) now? Even if it goes for a toss, who cares? Friendships and enmities in B-town are fragile and inconsistent and it's been so for years, after all!

Katrina to pair with SRK despite brawl with Salman

Yash Chopra is coming back to direction after a gap of four years with his yet untitled romantic next. The filming for which begins in 2009 January. He has managed a casting coup of sorts with this one.

If sources are to be believed, he has got together Amitabh Bachchan along with son Abhishek Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan and Katrina Kaif. Industrywalas have been left stumped with this get together of actors under one roof.

The reported cold war between the Bachchans and the King Khan and the also the famous Salman Khan v/s Shah Rukh brawl at Katrina's birthday bash is still fresh in everyone's mind. Then how has Yash Chopra managed the impossible?

A Bollywood trade analyst added, "When Yashji summons you never say No! Amitabh was given a new lease of life by him with Mohabbatein (2000) at the time when all his come back films were flopping left-right-centre.

Abhishek was given a career boost with Dhoom (2004). This Yash Raj film was Abhi's first certified hit in his career. Shah Rukh Khan is family for the Chopras.

Katrina is amongst today's top actresses. She is a thorough professional and plus which actress would say no to a film produced by Yash Raj the biggest Bollywood banner and that too a film directed by Yash Chopra himself!"

What remains to be seen is how will Salman react to his girlfriend out to align with his arch enemy SRK, even if its on screen!
