Coming from an army background, it is no wonder that for Esha Gupta, the call of duty comes first. So much so that she is giving a family wedding a miss as she will be busy promoting her upcoming film.

Our source says, `She is still very new in the industry. She is lucky that in her very first year in the industry, she has two back-to-back films. She cannot take chances.`

Towards the end of this month and early September, her family will be busy prepping up for her cousin brother's wedding. While some of the pre-wedding ceremonies will be held in Delhi and Ludhiana, the main event will be taking place in Jodhpur.


At the same time, the cast of Vikram Bhatt's next will be promoting their film. And once that gets over, Esha is expected to join the promotions of Prakash Jha's next. The source adds that though Esha will not be part of the wedding, she is involved in the wedding preparations.

Denied sex, duo harass actress

Producer and writer held for allegedly sending lewd SMSes, posting vulgar comments online

Producer and writer have been arrested for allegedly sending her lewd SMSes and posting vulgar comments on social networking website

On Wednesday night, Versova police arrested a small-time writer and a film producer for allegedly sending lewd messages to Sapna, an actress, on her mobile phone, and posting vulgar comments about her on a social networking website.

The accused - Harish Jaiswal (42) and Mukesh Pandey (28) - were allegedly defaming the actress on a social networking website since the past three months.

When the actress could not bear the abuse any further, she decided to teach the duo a lesson and recorded their conversation on her mobile phone. She then approached Versova police and lodged a complaint against the two.

`The FIR was registered against the duo based on the mobile phone recording, ` said Sharad Borse, senior PI of Versova police station.


Police arrested the duo and presented them before the court yesterday. Both Jaiswal and Pandey have been remanded in police custody till Monday.

`We have seized the computers of the duo to match the IP address from which the comments were posted. Besides, we are also trying to find out if they have committed a similar crime in the past, ` an officer from Versova police station said.

The lust story

Jaiswal and Pandey had met the actress and offered her an item song in their film. According to police, the duo then asked the actress for sexual favours. But when she refused to oblige, they started harassing her.

`They defamed me on the website by posting lewd and vulgar remarks on my pictures. When I tried to block them from my account on the social networking website, they started calling me on my mobile phone, " the actress alleged.

Recently Soha Ali Khan had to film a very uncomfortable scene. In fact, the actress requested the director to shoot the molestation sequence within closed doors, without allowing any still photographer to be present in the room.


In her upcoming film based on child trafficking, she plays an NRI, who gets molested by a group of goons. Our source says, `Soha was emotionally drained while shooting the sequence. In this particular scene, the goons drag her down to the floor and rip off her shirt and manhandle her.`

Producer Vibha Dutta Khosla adds that being a thorough professional, Soha understood that the scene was essential to the storyline and immediately agreed to shoot for it.


Assistant director Ramzan who was present during the shoot says, `While doing the scene, Soha was badly bruised and even had to take medical aid.`

'Asad Rauf used me for sex' - Model

Leena Kapoor claims that Asad Rauf, who has officiated in more than 100 international cricket matches, sexually exploited her after promising marriage

Renowned cricket umpire Asad Rauf has been caught on the back foot following allegations by an Oshiwara-based model that the former Pakistan first-class cricketer sexually exploited her for several months after promising marriage.

Leena Kapoor has sent a written complaint (copy with MiD DAY) to the office of Pratap Dighavkar, DCP, zone IX. She has mentioned that she had met Rauf through a mutual friend in Sri Lanka six months ago. They exchanged numbers and then stayed together in the country for three days.

On reaching Mumbai, she fell ill. Rauf came over to see her and their bond grew stronger. Kapoor says Rauf committed at the time that he would marry her and get her a new flat. He told her he was married and had two kids, but his religion allowed him to have more than one wife and his family would give its consent.


The two kept meeting, often when Rauf - who is a member of ICC Elite Umpire Panel - would come over to India to officiate in tournaments including the IPL. `I asked him several times about the marriage and he would always tell me that it would happen soon, ` Kapoor told MiD DAY.

Kapoor said that a few days earlier she tried calling Rauf, but there was no response from his side. Five days ago, he allegedly called her up saying he didn't know her and didn't want any further interactions with her.

According to officials from the DCP's office, they have received a letter and an inquiry would be conducted soon.

Salman to resume shooting of Ek Tha Tiger from Sept 10

 

Yash Raj Films and director Kabir Khan can breathe a sigh of relief. Salman Khan is all set to fly to Dublin to resume shooting on September 10 for Yash Raj Films-Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger. The crew, including Katrina Kaif (who, as reported, has set aside all other projects), has been keeping itself on hold monitoring Salman’s post-surgery recuperation. Now they can heave a sigh of relief, as Salman is well on the way to recovery. Says a source close to the actor, “After the seven-hour surgery the doctors had prescribed a strict regime for Salman to follow. But he has defied the rules, as usual. He’s filled with mauj-masti in the US. He’s very happy. Salman has been calling up his brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri for the box-office figures of Bodyguard. Though the doctors have predicted the possibility of a second surgery three months from now, Salman has healed with amazing dexterity leaving even his surgeons flummoxed.” Atul Agnihotri confirms Salman’s heartening recovery. “Salman has a Trigeminal Neuralgia with an AV Malformation. He also has another rare complication. He has been treated in the US. The procedure took seven hours and it is successful.” About Salman not paying attention to doctors’ orders Atul says, “He is en route to recovery defying post-operation instructions. That’s Salman for you.” About further treatment, Atul says, “Salman has to get a check-up done in three months to decide if he needs to get a second procedure done. He should commence shooting for Yash Raj soon in Dublin.” Sources at Yash Raj confirm that the shooting resumes on September 10 which incidentally is the date when Salman’s Dabangg had released.

SRK thrilled about ps3 game on 'Ra.One'

Superstar Shahrukh Khan, who is leaving no stone unturned to promote his most ambitious project 'Ra.One', is excited about a ps3 game, based on the upcoming super-hero flick. SRK's Red Chillies Production has tied up with Sony Playstation, a leading game player, to develop and create a game based on the film.

The game called, 'Ra.One - The Game', which will be available for PS2 and PS3 consoles from September, about a month before the movie releases in October this year. "Sorry to go on and on about the Sony ps3 game but i am so taken in by it. yippeee my own personal video game...though the hair is little pointy... will put up shots of other actors too.. soon," Shahrukh said on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Veteran actor Shammi Kapoor passes away

Veteran Bollywood actor Shammi Kapoor passed away on Sunday morning. The 79-year-old actor was admitted to Breach Candy hospital last week and was on ventilator support.

He was suffering from kidney failure. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning, sources said.

Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, "Shammi Kapoor ji passed away this morning at 5:15 am .. Rushing there now .. the flamboyance and joie de verve of the Industry lost !"

"Shammi ji ... An entire life full of optimism and happy spirit, caring loving to all ... Now suddenly silent," Amitabh Bachchan added.

Born on October 21, 1931, Kapoor was one of the leading stars of Hindi cinema during the late 1950s and 1960s. He made his debut in 1953 with the film 'Jeevan Jyoti'.

Kapoor, hailed as 'Elvis Presley of India', joined the silver screen at a time when his elder brother Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Dilip Kumar were the reigning trio. He was a versatile actor and starred in hits like 'Tumsa Nahin Dekha', 'Dil Deke Dekho', 'Junglee', 'Dil Tera Diwana', 'Professor', 'China Town', 'Rajkumar', 'Kashmir Ki Kali' and many more.

With the success of 'Junglee' in 1961, an entire decade reeled under its colourful impact.

Shammi heralded the swinging 60s and a large part of his appeal was primarily due to the immensely catchy and upbeat numbers like 'Suku Suku', 'O Haseena Zulfo Wali', 'Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar Ke Charche', 'Aaja Aaja Main Hoon Pyar Tera' where he was at his boisterous best.

Even though success came with light weight tales like 'Kashmir Ki Kali', 'Rajkumar', 'Jaanwar' and 'An Evening in Paris', his performances in flicks like 'Junglee', 'Badtameez', 'Bluff Master', 'Pagla Kahin Ka', 'Teesri Manzil', 'Brahmachari' silenced his critics.

Kapoor received the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1968 for 'Brahmachari'.

He also won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for 'Vidhaata' in 1982.

'Andaz', which released in 1971, was his last movie as a leading man but his character roles in 'Vidhata', 'Hero' and 'Prem Rog' were well received.

He made his last appearance as an actor in the 2006 Govinda-starrer 'Sandwich'. He also shot a few scenes alongside his great-nephew Ranbir Kapoor for the to-be-released film 'Rockstar'.

Mohan Babu's daughter Laxmi Manchu to make Bollywood debut with Department

Veteran Telugu superstar Mohan Babu's daughter Lakshmi Manchu is all set to make her Bollywood debut with Ram Gopal Varma's Department. She will be paired opposite Sanjay Dutt.

Lakshmi Manchu is not new to the world of showbiz, she is well known for her talk shows like 'Lakshmi Talk Show' and 'Prematho Mee Lakshmi'. She received a lot of appreciation for her negative performance in her debut Telugu film Anaganaga O Dheerudu. She has also acted in the American Television series Las Vegas and Desperate Housewives.

Television actress Ekta Tiwari was saved by her friend and neighbours, who came to her rescue on hearing her cries for help

Television actress Ekta Tiwari, best known for her lead role in Tere Mere Sapne, has filed a complaint of attempted rape against her former driver, accusing him of molesting, assaulting and threatening her in her Bhayander flat on Thursday night. According to the Navghar police, Tiwari stays alone at her Naya Nagar flat in Bhayandar and had employed Mira Road resident Sajid Sayyed (26) as her driver three months ago.She fired him a fortnight back, following which he started sending her lewd SMSes and began stalking her.”I required a driver and an acquaintance introduced me to Sayyed. I used to talk to him but never discussed anything personal. However, he must have misunderstood me and thought that I was attracted to him. Sayyed began falling in love with me and started acting weird. I was not comfortable with his behaviour and fired him 15 days ago. This must have hurt his ego,” said Tiwari.Tiwari had warned Sayyed to back off, but he wanted to have an affair with her. On Thursday, Tiwari was at home when Sayyed came to her building. He kept a watch the entire day and, noticing that she was alone, began shouting her name. Scared, Tiwari asked Sayyed to go, but he barged into her house instead and tried to rape her.

Rape attempt “On Thursday, Sayyed barged into my house and grabbed my hand. I warned him to go away but he began kissing me violently. He dragged me to the bedroom and tore my clothes. I ran to the window and shouted, but he grabbed me and pushed me against the wall. I got hold of my mobile phone and dialled the number of one of my friends but Sayyed snatched the phone, dropped it on the floor and pushed me on the bed,” she said. “He was trying to rape me, but my friend and neighbours came there and saved me. They tried to nab Sayyed but he fled, threatening to kill me and them,” said Tiwari. “We are on the look out for Sayyed. He fled the scene when Tiwari’s neighbours heard her cries for help and came to her rescue,” said API M Shivadkar from the Navghar police station, where Tiwari filed the complaint yesterday.
