Fashion to premiere in New York

"Fashion", Madhur Bhandarkar's film set in the glamorous but ruthless world of haute couture, is slated for its world premiere on October 24 during the week-long 5th South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF) in New York.

Nandita Das' "Firaaq", also from India, is the opening night feature of the festival and Das starrer "Ramchand Pakistani" directed by Mehreen Jabbar is the closing film. The festival runs from October 22-28.

SAIFF 2008 will present a select combination of full-length films, shorts and documentaries in a variety of genres. With several screening locations in Manhattan and high-profile sponsors like HBO, the New York Times and Time Warner Cable, the festival is dedicated to supporting established and emerging filmmakers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, as well as the South Asian diaspora.

"Fashion", starring Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Raj Babbar explores the world of style through the emotional journeys of the key people that make up the industry -models, designers, photographers, agencies and businessmen.

"Firaaq", which premiered last month at the Toronto International Film Festival, takes place over a 24-hour period one month after the 2002 communal violence in Gujarat. It features a star studded ensemble portraying the emotional journeys of "ordinary people" - some victims, some perpetrators and some who watched silently.

"Ramchand Pakistani" is a true story from 2002 concerning the accidental crossing of the Pakistan-Indian border during a period of extreme, war-like tension between the two countries by two members of a Pakistani Hindu family belonging to the Dalit caste. Nandita Das is the only non-Pakistani in the film's cast.

Akshay Kumar replaces Big B in Komagata Maru

After saying 'No' to Big B, Oscar nominated director Deepa Mehta has signed Akshay Kumar to play the lead in her next film, Komagata Maru.

It was earlier reported in the media that Big B couldn't do the film since it is a Canadian Production and their government expects the actors to have a Canadian citizenship. The film has therefore gone to Akshay Kumar.

Komagata Maru is an epic film based on a true story surrounding the voyage of the ship 'Komagata Maru' from India to Vancouver in the early part of the last century with 376 passengers on board seeking a new life in the promise land.

It is a film of high level government intrigue, duplicity, racism, spying, military engagements, court battles, sedition, and assassination.

It is a journey of one man's courage that challenged the largest empire in the world. Set in the year 1914, the film spans two continents. It bears open the heroism of Gurdit Singh, who dares to have an impossible dream- a life of freedom, equality, and dignity.

The film also depicts the martyrdom of Mewa Singh.

Akshay Kumar has confirmed he will be playing the lead Gurdit Singh, in this collaboration with Deepa Mehta. Talks are also underway with various actors including Hollywood A-listers making this truly an international project.

"This is an extremely important opportunity for me to reveal a significant moment in Canadian history and illustrate the steadfast bravery of the Sikh community who sacrificed so much to help create a more tolerant community within my adopted country, " says award winning director, Deepa Mehta.

Akshay Kumar says, "I'm not used to working with the Oscar nominated directors so it is a great privilege to work with Deepa Mehta.

The subject of this film has moved me, as it is a true representation and a testimony to human struggles for freedom, justice and equality. I want to portray this real life tragedy to the world identifying how injustice was done to innocent people.

It is an hour for me to play one of the bravest Sikhs, Gurdit Singh, in this tragic forgotten moment in history. I salute those brave souls who sacrificed their lives for justice and equality today."

Komagata Maru is a Canadian production being produced by Hamilton-Mehta Production Inc. in association with Akshay Kumar's home production, Hari Om Entertainment.

The film's budget ranges from $ 30-35 million dollars approximate and is currently in pre-production. It will begin full production in September 2009.

The story will be filmed in various locations around the world. The film will be distributed in Canada by Mongrel Media.

In Heroes we don't bad mouth Pakistan: Preity Zinta

After almost a gap of one and half years Preity is back with a more mature outlook towards life. And that can be made out in her forthcoming films. Currently her three films are due for release, let's talk to her and know more about them.

Q-It's almost after one and half years that your three films are going to be released?
A-Yes, alongwith Heroes there are two more films that are going to be released. After Heroes which is releasing in Diwali it's going to be Deepa Mehta's "Heaven and Earth"and then Jaanu Barua's "Har Pal" will be released.

In all these films Heroes and Har Pal are completely commercial films but Heaven and Earth is a realistic film. Its based on household violence. In both the films Heroes and in Heaven and Earth I'm playing the role of a Punjabi girl.

The characters that I'm playing in both these films are different forms of women. It's chirpy and bubbly in one while serious and stronger in the other.

The character of Har Pal is something very different from what I have played till now. It reminded me of Kya Kehna.

Q-What is the specialty of these three films?
A-The specialty about these films would be that they will have a place in my personal film library. I'm really proud about these films as in them I have challenged the actor inside me.

Moreover in this era of only commercial films these films are a good combination of reality and commercial and I list them with Taare Zammen Par, Rang de Basanti, Wednesday and Munna Bhai.

And also the best part about Heroes is that in spite of being an army based film it has not bad mouthed Pakistan in any way.

Q-What would you like to say about Deepa Mehta?
A-What do I say about her, she is one of the finest directors in the world. I always thought about her as a director who could never go wrong. This was proved at Toronto after the screening of our film Heaven and Earth when the entire crowd there gave a standing ovation.

Q-In all the three films you are playing the role of a typical Indian girl, which of these is the real you?
A-Amongst the three, Kuljeet of Heroes is very close coz she is shown patriotic just, like me. But I feel just by saying any one of these characters resemble me would be unfair. More than my characters I trust these films.

Q-That means you are sure to win the national award this year?
A- (laughing) I don't know. I would want the viewers to be my award. I would like them to go and watch these films. And I would personally request every man and women to definitely watch Deepa Mehta's Heaven and Earth.

Q-Its heard that in Heroes al the heroines are sidelined, is it true?
A- Absolutely not, there is nothing like this. These are all personal views of the media. They have a habit of hyping the smallest of issues.

I would like to appreciate them as they have managed to hit the bull's eye once again. Just like Veer Zaara was Shah Rukh and Preity's film and in every poster the two of them were seen, in the same way in this film also the heroine plays a very strong character. but Heroes is actually as the name suggests a film basically on the heroes.

Q-After almost one and half year you were to be seen in "last Lear" and now in all your forthcoming films you are seem to be excited about doing all different characters. Why at this time?
A-what do you mean?

Q-I meant that were you offered such roles or you had decided that you want to do something different?
A-Yes, I had decided I wanted to do something different. because of this decision I also refused a lot of big banners which I don't want to mention now.

Whereas media had already started spreading the news that Preity is not getting any good offers and that she is planning to get married. The fact was that I had taken a one year time off from my directors for the IPL as I dint want to discuss things before they could work out.

In midst of all this I always thought in my heart that I wanted to do something different that would inspire me. Lot of my friends were annoyed and said that I was really crazy to do something like this.

Q-But why did you decide to do something like this?
A-Every single person asked me the same question at that time. And I answered all of them by saying that even if I fail in my expectations I would like to give myself a chance. No one would be held responsible for my failure.

Everytime when someone would come up to me with a offer I would instantly agree thinking that the film sounds great, the banner is big the money is good, It was as if someone is controlling me with a remote control. This was not what my heart wanted.

When I took an off for IPL I felt that these are some signals from God, coz the day I decided to do something different I got a call from Deepa Mehta asking me for Heaven and Earth.

Q-Haven't Deepa Mehta and Rituparna Ghosh offered you any roles before?
A-Of course they had offered me. Even when I was doing hard core commercial films I did get offers from big directors for such roles.

At that time I had told them that I want to be completely dedicated to what I'm doing, if im unable to give my hundred percent to the film then that would be a minus point for the film.

Q-Why did you do a cameo role in Mr. and Mrs. Khanna and Rab ne Bana di Jodi?
A-As far as Mr. and Mrs. Khanna is concerned the director of the film is a very close friend of mine and he always wanted me to work with him. But I was so obsessed with these three forthcoming films of mine that I refused him.

Now when he came up to me with this small role I couldn't refuse him. For Rab ne Bana di jodi I wouldn't like to comment on that film.

Oh My God! Salman…you look so good: Preity Zinta

Preity, with your next film Heroes coming up. Are you nervous or excited?
Frankly speaking, I am very excited. I was nervous when I was shooting for the film. It was a very difficult role for me, because it was not in my comfort zone as an actor. This role was something that I have not attempted before.

For instance, when someone offers me a role of an NRI, I can play that role with ease because it's in my comfort zone. But my role in Heroes has got a very rural flavor to it.

It's a role of a simple girl from a village, who speaks Punjabi and is a woman of the soil. She works on a tractor and makes rotis in a village house. In that sense, it's a very different kind of role.

What is the name of your character in the film and can you oblige us by giving a sneak peak into the lives of 'Heroes'?
The name of my character is Kuljeet Kaur, who is an Indian by every inch. And as far as the 'sneak peak' into the film is concerned, all I can say is that the film is about the two boys played by Vatsal Seth and Sohail Khan.

They belong to the proverbial 'Generation Next' and also someone who have everything that anyone can ever want. They have the money to splurge, they have all the vices, and they have the time, and yes the luxury to waste time too, which is pretty much the current breed of the upper level generation.

Heroes is about their journey of meeting people from various backgrounds of life. It is their interaction with people from various backgrounds of life. Moreover, how they get inspired from them. It is then, that these normal people become 'heroes'.

The bottom line of the story is that one need not do anything extraordinary to become a hero. You can simply do the ordinary things and become a hero. But what matters the most is the 'way' you do them.

As Mariah Carey says in her famous song… 'That a Hero lies in you'. This film is also something that acts as a bridge that connects the modern India with the real India.

How much of your character in Heroes do you identify with?
Absolutely…despite the fact that I am extremely urban! But as Shahrukh says, 'Phir bhi dil hai Hinduatani'! I come from an army family (with my father and brother both serving the nation), I am extremely patriotic towards my country.

I would request each and every family to at least send one of their children to the army. That way, it would not be states and communities anymore…it will be about INDIA! People in the army give their lives for people they don't even know. The only time when we remember them is when there is a war happening.

At the end of the day, we land up with a 'Oh! How sad' kind of feeling, which is something that I feel will never cease to be the flavor of the season. Heroes is a look into lot of such things, without any kind of theory and lecture-baazi!

It's more of a practical presentation which, in other words, can also be termed as the mirror of the society! It's not just me, but the whole nation will instantly identify with Kuljeet Kaur! As an actor, Heroes is a very new space for me and I am simply proud to be a part of it!

Rumors also have it that you have not used make up in the entire film. How much of it is true?
Yes, I have not used make-up, but only in some portions of the film, whereas in others, I have. But the one film in which I have just not done any make up is my next film Heaven On Earth! To me, Heaven On Earth and Heroes are the two faces of the same coin.

How was it working with Salman Khan?
Till date, never ever in my career, have I ever looked at my hero while working with him, stopped at the sets and said, "Oh! You look so good!" But, I did that with Salman Khan when he came dressed up as a Sardar. I just looked at him and said, "Oh My God! Salman…you look so good!"

Salman, on his part, simply looked at me so endearingly and asked, "Preity…what are you talking about!" With his beard and turban, he looked like a real Jat Sikh! Trust me; he looks so very awesomely good in the film.

As a matter of fact, I happened to go to London where a group of people came up to me and said, "Assi tho zaroor dekhaangey jee Heroes, Salman Khan tho badda sona lagada hain jee." (Dear, we will surely watch Heroes without fail. Salman looks so good in it!).

And I was like, 'Hey! What about me?' (Laughs) To which, they replied, "Aap bhi achhe lag rahe ho, par Salman kya lag raha hai…gabru'. (You too are looking good, but Salman looks so macho!).

Heroes was previously titled as 'Mera Bhaarat Mahaan'. Without sounding diplomatic or politically correct, can you please tell us as to which name do you prefer more and why?
I think both the titles work for me because the idea being both the titles suits the film so very accurately.

That reminds me of an incident, which happened to me a few days back when I saw a signboard which said 'Mera Bhaarat Mahaan'.

But when I came closer to the board, there were these small letters below it which said 'Banana padega'. (Laughs) If I were to think of Heroes from a different context, I think that Mera Bharat Mahaan sounds like a name with a little bit of cynicism in it, while Heroes sounds more positive. That way, I would stick with Heroes!

Vatsal Seth…the literal blue-eyed boy of Bollywood, who started off his Bollywood career with a dud like Tarzan -The Wonder Car is again knocking the doors of tinsel town with Heroes. Do you foresee a bright future for him post Heroes?
I am sure that he indeed has a bright future ahead of him. And when he actually starts looking like a man (post his chocolate hero image), he would have gained so much experience in this industry, that its going to be only raining awards for him!

India winning at the Oscars is every Indian's dream. So, do you feel that Taare Zameen Par will make every Indian's dream come true?
I really hope it wins! It's a great movie. After watching the film, I told Aamir that, 'TZP made me cry. And it wasn't even a love story.' I am already sitting with my fingers and toes crossed with a little prayer of my lips!

Can you cite three reasons for the common man to watch Heroes?
Firstly, it's a fantastic film. Secondly, I am in it. And lastly, it's going to be worth every minute of it.

Kangana gets cosy with her boyfriend

From the beginning of her career Kangana Ranaut has seemed to be comfortable with exposing, steamy scenes and playing troubled characters.

In all her films from 'Gangster', 'Woh Lamhe', 'Shaka Laka Boom Boom' to 'Life in a Metro' (and the upcoming 'Fashion'), she's repeatedly done things of that kind!

This time it's being said that her lovemaking scene in 'Raaz 2' gets steamier than ever.

That's quite natural. The guy with whom she's filmed it is none other than Adhyayan Suman, her real-life boyfriend.

Yes, Kangana has been seeing him after she walked out of her long term relationship with Aditya Panscholi and was 'done using him' (as accused by the jilted Panscholi)!

Reportedly Kangana and Adhyayan play a madly-in-love couple in the Vishesh Films' movie. Since the two are shown to be a live-in couple in the film, director Mohit Suri thought of shoot a lovemaking scene between them. The scene required the two actors to get cozy and even share a passionate kiss.

As expected the real life lovers were game for it. The buzz is that everything was very spontaneous and they didn't even rehearse before shooting the scene.

With an expert like Kangana around, it must have been very simple indeed!

You can't have a sex bomb image forever

Three years and nine films later, Tanushree Dutta has moved on. She no longer worries about the kind of perception audience has about her and the variety of roles they want her to be seen in. Instead she wants to focus on different kind of projects that she can lay her hands on and wear different personalities for each of her roles.

"Just like in life you can't have the same mood everyday, the same holds good in your professional career as well.

You can't be trapped in the image of a sex bomb forever or shy away from doing different kind of films. I can't be the same girl from morning till night and the same holds good for my films too which should be boasting of different flavors", philosophizes Tanushree Dutta.

Stating that she can't be playing monotone characters for life, Tanushree declares that she has grown in life. "I am not a kid anymore to be affected by talks around me.

Anything that is extreme, whether overtly negative or highly positive, ceases to disturb the way I look at life or my work. I know of the people who love me and the supporters that I have. I don't have a point to prove to anyone out there."

Her latest release 'Saas Bahu Aur Sensex' saw her in a different avtar altogether. From the bombshell image that she carries, suddenly she appeared as a girl next door.

"Well, it may be a little disappointing for few but again as I said earlier, those who love me would understand this.

For others, well I can only be sorry for them but please, don't expect me to be the same all the time", smiles Tanushree who would also be seen in a children's adventure film 'Raama - The Saviour' soon.

"That's one film I am excited about since I have learnt martial arts for the film. 'Raama - The Saviour'.

The film boasts of stunts on the lines of Lara Croft played by Angeline Jolie in 'The Tomb Raiders series' and has state-of-the-art special effects and animation. It was fun shooting for the film which has been shot in the jungles of Thailand", signs off Tanushree.

Stallone to attend India premiere of Kambakht Ishq

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala has hit it off so well with Sylvester Stallone while shooting for "Kambakht Ishq" that he has convinced the "Rocky" star to attend the premiere of the film here as well as to work together in more movies.

"Yes, Stallone will be coming to Mumbai for the premiere. In fact, we have hit it off so well that I've convinced him for more collaborations with us," Nadiadwala told IANS.

"However, it's too premature to talk about any concrete plans between the two of us. He did give me a book to read, but that doesn't mean I'm making a movie out of it, not yet."

The producer has huge plans for "Kambkaht Ishq". He plans to have an international release of the English version of the movie at the same time with the Hindi in April-May 2009.

"It'll be a much shorter version of the original. While the Hindi version will be around 130 minutes, the English version will be 90-100 minutes long and without any song."

Nadiadwala is working on the English version of "Kambakht Ishq". Though Akshay is all set to finally go international with his first English-language film, he won't be heard speaking in his own voice.

"I'll get dubbing artistes from outside India to dub for everyone, excluding Sylvester Stallone. Akshay certainly can't make himself comprehensible to American audiences in his own voice," said Nadiadwala from Vicenza in Italy, where the last portion of "Kambhakt Ishq" is being shot with Kareena, Akshay, Aftab Shivdasani and Amrita Arora.

To knock off the elaborate Hindi song sequences for the English version, Sajid is getting a creative music director from Hollywood as a consultant.

"We've zeroed in on three guys who specialise in editing Hollywood musicals including the gentleman who did 'The Wedding Singer'. I'll hire one of them to put together the English version of 'Kambhakt Ishq'. I don't want it to be seen as a dubbed Bollywood film. I want it to be on a par with the American releases, just as slick."

This is where the presence of Stallone, Denise Richards and "Entourage" star Holy Valencia would help.

"These stars would help bring in the American audience and establish a connect with the film. Like in India, most audiences won't care about Stallone and other Hollywood stars. They'll just go to watch Akshay."

Nadiadwala is hoping "Kambakht Ishq" would be the international launch of Akshay's career.

"He has it in him. And we've worked really hard to give 'Kambakht' an international look and feel. My film has gone way above budget. I don't think I'll ever be able to make a film so expensive. The ticket fare to Europe alone costs what was the entire budget of my first production."

Salman plays an 18th century warrior from Central India in Veer

Salman Khan's period film Veer is set in the 18th century and covers the period from 1820 to 1930. A source related to the film reveals the story of Veer revolves around a sect of people called the Pindaris.

The Pindaris were a horde of cruel marauders, who from their headquarters in Central India ravaged and plundered the neighbouring regions as well as some distant areas.

During the eighteenth century, they adopted plundering and robbery as their profession. The Marathas armies employed the Pindaris in their battles as auxiliary forces.

It is learnt that the film will be extensively shot in various locales in London and Rajasthan. Salman and director Anil Sharma are looking out for able-bodied men who will play the Pindari warriors along with Salman.

The source says, "Salman plays the title role of Veer in the film. He's a Robin Hood of sorts, who robs the British officers and helps the poor. Salman has watched Mel Gibson's The Patriot and was quite impressed with the gun battle scenes. He wants to do the same with Veer."

Akshay and Kareena shooting for Kambakth Ishq in Venice

The very statement that 'Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor are being paired together' brings all the makings of a Bollywood blockbuster in one's mind! Having said that, if we were to mention that Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Denise Richards and Brandon Routh join Akki and Bebo in the film, it would undoubtedly be one of the biggest Hindi films ever! Well, this film is none other than Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambakth Ishq! Needless to say that, with this, it becomes India's first film to boast of such a huge Indian and International starcast! The film is a romantic comedy about an Indian stuntman who takes Hollywood by storm.

The above pics were taken in Venice where Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor were shooting last week for a song sequence. From the looks of it, it seems like Akshay is trying his best to woo Kareena. What happens in Vegas...

By now, the state of Hrithik Roshan's knee is well-known. From being severely injured to going in for a surgery to correct the problem, his knee has been the subject of much discussion.

Says one of Hrithik's female colleagues, "Duggu's knee is a cause for great concern for him and for his entire family. The doctors told him he would never dance again. After his second son was born, Duggu went for surgery to the US and spent nearly two months recovering. He was determined to let it heal properly because Kites requires considerable athletic movement. Hrithik didn't take one wrong step until he left to shoot for the film in the US."

Everything went smoothly until the final week of shooting in Las Vegas when Hrithik injured his sensitive knee again. Says a source, "There was panic. He was in considerable pain and unable to move. And since there was just a few days' shooting left, director Anurag Basu wondered what they would do."

When contacted, Hrithik tells an even more serious tale of injury. "I hurt myself while jumping from a car. It looked really bad. The doctor said my knee would require eight weeks of healing. He said I'd be limping on crutches for at least two weeks."

But three days after the injury, the actor had a miraculous recovery. He says, "It is the third day after the accident. And I'm already running on my 'injured' knee. So it's all fine."

But the recurring problem with his knee refuses to go away.

YRF's John-Katrina starrer titled NEW YORK?

If sources are to be believed, Yash Raj Films' next is titled NEW YORK. Directed by Kabir Khan of KABUL EXPRESS fame, the dramatic thriller stars John Abraham, Katrina Kaif and Neal Nitin Mukesh in the lead and would soon be seeing wrap up of its principal shooting.

Since there is always huge secrecy around projects by Yash Raj Films, there is always a fair amount of speculation around the subject line and title (if it hasn't been finalized) of their film. This was earlier the case in films like VEER ZAARA, CHAK DE INDIA as well as most recently BACHNA AE HASEENO.

When contacted, YRF's spokesperson Monica Bhattacharya neither confirmed nor denied the title being NEW YORK. She simply stated, ''No name has been fixed yet for the film.'' However, even though everyone from the cast and crew is tight lipped about the film being titled NEW YORK, trade is abuzz that this indeed is the final title of the film.

I can't please everyone all the time: Katrina Kaif

Katrina is done with playing the giddyheaded Miss from wonderland. In Prakash Jha's Rajneeti she'll go from young student to a married woman, and beyond.

"I didn't think I was ready to do something like this. But then I heard the script and I couldn't resist it. Maybe because Prakashji is such a good narrator, I fell in love with my character.

That took care of my misgivings about playing a woman who goes through experiences I can't connect with. I'm doing enough hardcore commercial films.

At this juncture of my career I can afford to do something that challenges me. As long as the script is entertaining I'm all for it. Rajneeti is a very entertaining script. As for my character she's a light-hearted character to begin with.

Later she grows serious and ambitious. If it works it can do a lot for my career."

Katrina is currently touring Hyderabad, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Delhi for the promotion of Singh Is Kinng.

She lets out that she just follows Akshay into a film when he's in it. "He has a fantastic script sense. And you know when he's doing it, it will work. Not that I go blindly into films that feature him. But yes, he does have a fantastic knowledge of what works at the boxoffice. That explains our success ratio together."

Interestingly in Vipul Shah's Namaste London Katrina had the main role while Akshay Kumar played the supporting part. Now the tables have been turned in Singh Is Kinng.

But Katrina wasn't allowed to complain. "Every time I'd start whining and complaining about the size of my role Akshay would order me to go stand in a corner and repeat Namaste London five times and be quiet. He's right. He needn't have done Namaste London which was the girl's story. Akshay does have a stronger role in Singh Is Kinng."

So does Katrina have songs and two dances in Singh Is Kinng?

"Er….no that would be seven songs, and the movie will be too long. I like my character. I play a vivacious and spontaneous character with a hot temper. When it comes to losing her cool the girl is quite like me. I get mad really quickly and two minutes later I'm fine"

Katrina has super-busy days ahead. "Me and Akshay are promoting the film together in Mumbai and Delhi. The rest I'm doing on my own with Vipul Shah and Anees Bazmi. It's deja vu. Because the first time I ever promoted a film was again with Akshay for Namaste London.

Katrina has a cornocupia of releases lined up. "Is that a bad thing ? A lot of my films have run into one another, films that I had committed to way in advance. These are things I can't control. And I really want to do these films . Or I wouldn't be doing them in the first place."

However Katrina won't be taken for granted by people around her. "You've to stand your ground. I can't please everyone all the time. I've realized that."

I am not like other girls who throw tantrums for kissing or bikinis: Rituparna Sengupta

Rituparna is a well-known name in the Bengali film industry but she has been fighting for long to make her presence felt in the Bollywood.

Launched in Bollywood with an emotional comedy, Main Meri Patni Aur Woh, Rituparna is now waiting for her forthcoming features. She shares few of her valuable moment with Rajnee Gupta telling how she is expectant with each of her upcoming projects.

Q. Do you still take yourself as an intruder in this industry?
A. No. It’s how I used to feel previously but now the time is quite changed and I am also quite easy with the industry. Previously I had problems understanding the differences between Kolkata and Mumbai industries. Now I know that if I wish to be a part of any film in this industry then I would have to understand the industry first.

So, I have set my mind in that way only. But don’t take it otherwise. I have not forgotten my Kolkata which is still my home. I am a brand name over there and I want the same status here also.

Q. That means you want to be a brand name in Mumbai, too.
A. Absolutely. People in Kolkata know me well for both commercial and arty films. I want to attain the same status here also. I think I can get it by a combination of my approach towards both commercial films as well as art films. I am trying my best.

Q. You did your first film in Hindi Main Meri Patni Aur Woh almost four years back and still you are struggling for your recognition. What do you think is the reason?
A. I have chosen the right film. But it’s not my fault that it didn’t work at the box office. Take for example, Gauri The Unborn which is based on the contemporary topic of abortion.

It’s by R Mohan who made a hit like Chandni Bar. But Gauri didn’t appeal the audience. Besides a good production value the film had a star like Atul Kulkarni but it failed miserably.

You can also remember Sirf which is a multistarrer with names like Manisha Koirala, Kay Kay Menon, Nauhid Cyrusi, Ranvir Shorey, Sonali Kulkarni and Parvin Dabas. Again I think that I chose a right film but it didn’t work. I think I have to be doubly cautious in choosing films.

Q. Don’t you ever think that despite being a National Award winner, you are wasting your energy in striving for a good role in Bollywood!
A. No. I don’t think that I am wasting my energy but I surely feel bad about that. Again, such thoughts stay for very short span of time.

I must be happy that despite belonging to some other place, I am offered with so many films in this industry. I understand that success is the aftermath of struggle and it becomes ephemeral for people who get it easily.

Q. Most of your films show the problems with women. Is it merely a co-incident?
A. Even I don’t know it. Maybe my directors feel that I can portray such characters better. And not even in Mumbai, the Bengali movie, Trishna that I am doing now in Kolkata, is also showing me portraying several shades. It’s a bit like the John-Bipasha starrer Jism. My character in this film is named as Piyasha. Director thinks that only I can play that character.

Q. How did you react on getting the film Trishna?
A. I have already worked with this director but that character was not such a bold one. My character in this film demands both skin-show and acting ability. I am actually little grey shaded in this film.

Q. Item songs are quite an easy way to get a place in Bollywood. Why didn’t you try for any such number yet?
A. Because no one has yet offered me with it. If offered, I’ll definitely do item songs. I don’t think there is anything wrong in doing item songs.

Q. Have you marked any limit beyond which you won’t go for any character?
A. Yeah. I have drawn my own lines. I accept only those characters that appeal me the most and can satisfy the actor in me. I am not like other heroines who create tantrums with things like on screen kissing or appearing in bikinis.

I think of honor in association with glamour. Dimple Kapadia has gone through most skin-showy characters but people still honor her.

Q. It’s very natural phenomena that audiences take actresses like goddesses. Don’t you think that showing skin can hurt their feelings?
A. I don’t think so. But I am open to any kind of criticism if they feel like. I think criticism is good because it helps finding the faults in me.

Q. Which will be the recent release among your films?
A. It’s Warner Brothers’ SRK which is directed by Ajay Verma. It’s an emotional comedy. I am playing my best ever character in this film. My character in this film is named as Vidya who has to face few incidents for which she has never been prepared.

The film starts with comedy and after a phase it turns into a serious film and again it touches the comic mode. I am working with Vinay Pathak in this film. Illaya Raja has given the music for this film while Gulzar has written the songs.

Q. What’s the expansion of SRK?
A. That is a secret. I cannot tell you about that. Only the film will reveal the secret.

Q. Tell us about your forthcoming films.
A. Karan Rajdan’s ‘Mittal Versus Mittal’, Anjan Dutta’s political thriller ‘BBD’, Shrinivas’ ‘Love Khichdi’, ‘Main Osama’, ‘Saab Chai Pani’, ‘Paroksh’ and ‘Dard-E-Disco’ are my forthcoming films.

‘Mittal Versus Mittal’ is based on marital rape. ‘Love Khichdi’ and ‘Dard-E-Dosco’ are out and out comedies. I am working as an airhostess in ‘Main Osama’ and in ‘Paroksh’ I am playing the character of an ambitious corporate woman.

Divya Dutta is also working in ‘Paroksh’. Besides them I am also working in some Bengali films. Suman Mukherjee’s ‘Chaturango’ is one of them. It’s based on a novel by Rabindranath Tagore.

There is so much I learnt from Kareena Kapoor: Celina

In your film career so far, you've been a part of seven comic capers. What made you sign your eight - Golmaal Returns?
I did Golmaal Returns because I loved the prequel Golmaal and somehow I wanted to do a movie which would have the capability to become as big as a No Entry.

The role I portray in Golmaal Returns was offered to me only because my director Rohit Shetty was confident that I could play a de-glam girl in the film compared to all other heroines who are present.

I play a South Indian woman who is called Mira Nair. She comes from a very strict Brahmin family. I was looking forward for a role like that because I am fed up of doing glamorous roles. There is much more to me than just being a barbie on screen.

But in a highly male dominated film, do you think you will be noticed?
Yes, Golmaal Returns is a male dominated film but it's also a story. As an actor, I believe that all actors make up a story. Even with one of the character's missing, the story can take a bad turn.

So, I always see to it that a particular role suits my image. Here I was going to be seen in a new avatar. Secondly, this is a role which the children are going to love and thirdly I wanted to work with Rohit Shetty. Then it was my first time with Ajay Devgan.

It was an amazing experience. It was also my second time with Shreyas Talpade who plays my co-star in Golmaal Returns.

Then I worked with Kareena Kapoor for the first time and it is always nice to be working with someone who is your senior and who knows much more about the film industry. After all, she comes from a practically a historical film family. It was a great experience for me overall and there was so much I learnt from it.

Did the entire cast and crew miss the presence of Sharman Joshi who was in the prequel Golmaal?
With Shreyas Talpade coming in the picture, no body is going to remember Sharman Joshi. Shreyas is a brilliant actor and I don't need to prove that. We all know him for Iqbal, Dor and Om Shanti Om. He is very versatile and he can play any given role with a lot of belief.

Did you have to go through any South Indian tuitions or training classes for your role?
(laughs) Golmaal Returns cinematographer was fondly called Nutty, short for Natarajan. Me and Shreyas used to go to him and ask him, "Agar Bachao bolna hai to kaise bolna hai?" (laughs).

So I was the one who was using the maximum South Indian words. Even though I was a girl born and brought up in Mumbai, you still have a tendency to use your Bengali, South Indian or a Gujarati language at home.

Credit should go to Nutty Sir for bearing me throughout Golmaal Returns.

So how is the de-glam Celina attired in the film?
Very simple, with kurta's, jeans and jholas and of course, the South Indian saree and the ghaghra - choli which many wear down south. I am also wearing black contact lenses which were ordered for me especially from London.

Practically no make up for me except the kaajal. My character took a real turn when I and Shreyas were filming this engagement scene in the hotel where I was wearing the lehenga with gajra and a choti.

A typical South Indian look. We had some aunts and uncles too in the scene. But some of the people from the hotel misunderstood us as the South Indian family. It was hilarious.

With you being paired opposite Shreyas, are we going to see you with any of the other co-actor in the film?
Yes. For a change, Golmaal Returns is not cliched. I've got many scenes with Ajay Devgan in the film. It was interesting working with him because I've been a big fan of his since I saw Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. He is a very intense actor. He is my favourite romantic hero too.

Tell us a bit about the unexplored side of the funny bunch of actors in the film.
Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade are the most fun co-stars I've worked with till date. Three of us get along like a house on fire. We'd start laughing in the morning and after pack up we stop. We keep on sending messages to each other talking nonsense all day long. It is fun.

Why would people return to watch Golmaal Returns this time around?
Honestly, leave your mind at home, brains at home. Come with an open heart with full entertainment. Laugh a lot and go back home and then again if you feel watching it twice, come back or should I say - Return?

You will see the lightest side of the most complex situations that people are put into in Golmaal Returns. It's not slapstick, it's situational.

This time around, are we going to see the scene continue from where it was left in Golmaal one where Ajay and Arshad do a spoof on the film Black?
(laughs) How did you come to know about this? But yes, the most famous 'Black' scene is there in part two too and I am somewhere there in it.

We started shooting that scene on the same day of the Press conference we had for unveiling the first look of Golmaal Returns. That same day at 11pm, we started and finished it at 7am the next day. In fact, you will see Black and Red too (laughs). Don't worry, Red is just me being silly.

Do you think that Golmaal Returns is the apt title for the second part?
Yes, because the first part Golmaal was a hit. Everybody knew Golmaal and the title track of the film. So when you're trying to create the same magic for the similar star cast with the same kind of story continuing, I think nothing could be better than adding 'returns' to the first name.

Tell us about one of the famous Mithun Chakraborty song you sang and fell down laughing.
(laughs) We were singing 'Zoobie Zoobie Zoobie' from the film Dance Dance. And Shreyas and Tusshar also joined in the act. It's one of our all time favourite songs. We sang the song all the way to Thailand and back. Imagine us three dancing to the song (laughs).

Are you aware of the fact that the media counts you as one of the most intelligent actresses around after Lara Dutta?
Me and Lara are best of friends. So it's good to know that. I don't know what makes me intelligent. I just speak my mind and if you think that's intelligent then be it.

Me and Lara come from a very strong third and fourth generation

Ajay Devgan to direct a wacky comedy!

Ever since Ajay's directorial debut venture, U ME AUR HUM failed to make much of an impact at the box–office or even garner critical acclaim, not much has been heard about the actor–director, save for a few shooting details about his next film, the animated TOONPOOR KA SUPERHERO and Rajkumar Santoshi's LONDON DREAMS. His fans heaved a sigh of relief after seeing him in peak form once again in Rohit Shetty's destined to succeed, GOLMAAL RETURNS.

However, there is more good news in store for his fans who are more than willing to give Devgan a second chance at direction. He confirms that he is producing two films under his banner, Devgan Entertainment Software Ltd. One of the films will be directed by an outside director, Chandan Arora of MAIN MADHURI DIXIT BANNA CHAHTI HOON and MAIN MERI PATNI AUR WOH. For the next project, Devgan himself will take up the responsibilities of direction. The film will be whacky comedy, a fun film but with sensibilities attached to it.

So, with Prakash Jha's RAJNEETI, Rajkumar Santoshi's LONDON DREAMS and a few more projects in the pipeline the super–actor seems set for another big innings, even though he has been going through a rough patch off late
All the best, Ajay.

Ramu impressed with Mallika's HISSSS!!

Ram Gopal Verma drops in on the sets of HISSSS ... And gets blown away by what he saw!

It was the first time RGV visited the sets of someone else's film and is all praises about it. The director dropped in on the sets of Mallika's HISSSS and was very impressed with what he saw.

Apparently RGV heard about the film from Mallika and immediately expressed his desire to visit the sets to see how Robert worked on creating the much–hyped 'naagin' of the film.

Mallika then invited RGV to the sets and the director was so impressed with Robert's work and the treatment of the film that he went on to say that HISSSS has the potential to become one of the greatest films made in India.

In fact, the director also expressed desire to work with Robert for one of his films in the near future.

SUPERMAN bonds with Indian action KINNG!

Sajid Nadiadwala as usual has managed the near impossible for KAMBAKKTH ISHQ. After getting the who's who of Hollywood to star in his magnum opus to be directed by newbie director Sabir Khan, Sajid is ready with yet another announcement. After Slyvester Stallone and Denise Richards, yet another Hollywood biggie joins the star cast of KAMBAKKTH ISHQ and it is none other than Brandon Routh. Better known as Superman from the SUPERMAN series.

Brandon's just finished shooting an extensive action portion with the hero of KAMBAKKTH ISHQ, the action king Akshay Kumar himself.

A source present on the sets revealed, "Akshay and Brandon had to perform a stunt scene together. It was the most crucial scene of the film. It was the most dangerous too."

"Brandon was very impressed with Akshay after watching him perform dangerous stunts for the film. He was surprised that in Bollywood actors performed the stunt scenes themselves."

"Also both the stars exchanged tips on fitness action and martial arts. It was fun to see them bonding. Brandon was very happy working with the team of KAMBAKKTH. As it is it was such a big coup to get Brandon. It is difficult to get him considering his phenomenal popularity as Superman. Kids simply love Brandon. And Brandon also means BOX OFFICE GOLD in Hollywood. Just like our Hero Akshay Kumar in Bollywood." Adds the source.

KAMABKKHTH ISHQ will be grabbing interest of children as well, as they will get to see their Superman sharing space with Indian action king Akshay kumar.

I had watched KARZ only once - Shweta Kumar

Shweta Kumar would be joining the list of debutant actors in 2008 with the release of KARZZZZ though she is quick to confess that before signing the film, she had seen the original KARZ only once in her life.

"And to think of it, I was so small then that I hardly remembered much about the film", smiles Shweta, daughter of prolific producer–director Indra Kumar, "I had vague images about the film though I guess I had pretty much liked it when I had seen it."

Things changed for her the moment she signed KARZZZZ.

"I have lost count of the number of times I have watched Rishi Kapoor's KARZ in last one year. Earlier I could just recollect the gist of the film but now I guess I could rattle down each and every line from it. It turned out to be a helpful experience, though instead of copying Tinaji (Munim), I have concentrated on understanding the character", says Shweta who plays the part enacted by Tina Munim in the original KARZ.

From 'Deewangee' to 'Desi Girl' - The fun continues

'Desi Girl' from Tarun Mansukhani directed DOSTANA has been unleashed all over the music channels and something that one can't miss in the song is the sheer energy and some electrifying sound and dance movements that the song brings with it. And guess what does 'Desi Girl' reminds one of? The track 'Deewangee' which was created by the same composer duo of Vishal and Shekhar for OM SHANTI OM.

The track boasts of the same vibrant feel, as evidenced in 'Deewangee' and Farah Khan's eye candy choreography only helps the cause further. Add to it Priyanka Chopra who looks oh–so–delicious while being draped in a saree and you know that Karan Johar has got it right yet again. With Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham flanking Priyanka Chopra from both ends as she dances away to glory, courtesy Vishal and Shekhar's foot tapping tune, you know that this is going to be yet another winner for everyone involved.

If 'It's the Time to Disco' became the talk of the town after KAL HO NA HO and 'Deewangee' turning out to popular even a year after it's release, there is no reason why 'Desi Girl' won't go on to scale further heights in weeks to come.

EK VIVAAH AISA BHI throws a surprise

Barjatya's special bond with composer/lyricist Ravindra Jain is continuing with EK VIVAAH AISA BHI. Two years back, veteran Ravindra Jain's work was heard in VIVAAH. Though the music didn't quite win the heart of the critics and was also slow in finding audience's attention, it went on to do decent business as the film turned into a huge success.

Now, after the success of the Shahid Kapoor–Amrita Rao starrer, Barjatyas are back with EK VIVAAH AISA BHI (which is not a sequel to VIVAAH, as some are presuming) and for the film they have roped in Ravindra Jain once again. To be fair to the composer/lyricist, EK VIVAAH AISA BHI turns out to be a good album which throws a complete surprise since it has literally come completely unannounced.

Just like majority of other films/music coming from the house of Barjatyas, this one too has it's heart in place, as evidenced in songs like 'Mujhe Zinda Hai Woh' and 'Kya Soch Ke Aaye The'. The soundtrack boasts of simplicity and innocent with Ravindra Jain demonstrating that there is a place for a sound like this even in the times when Western sound is dominating the music of practically every other film.

Bigg Boss almost disturbed my social life: Farah khan

After judging almost 4 reality shows Farah has got the title of an experienced and qualified judge. Judging reality shows according to her is at the back of her hand and she knows its an out and out entertainment for the audiences and the judges as well.

Q-Do you consider yourself a reality show junkie?
A-I am a big fan of reality shows and that's the reason why I have judged almost four of them and now this one is going to be my fifth one.

Bigg Boss used to be one of my favorite reality shows and I could almost feel my social life getting disturbed, but now as I see the contestants behaving like normal human beings I have started getting out of it. Nach Baliye has always been my favourite one.

Q- Unfortunately the entire outlook of the audiences towards reality shows have changed, they feel everything is made up over there. What do you think about this?
A-Yes, I agree to what they feel coz it really happens in some of the shows. I don't say that everything there is made up, but the judges are made to do certain things.

Fortunately such things have never happened in my shows and I will see to it that they never happen. Not only the drama it's the background music too which I just cannot stand.

For no reason there is always a background music which is played. Even the news channels are practicing it. In midst of a bomb blast news there's background music.

Q-Don't you feel there are excessive reality shows happening these days?
A-I agree to what you say but I feel that genuine reality shows are always preferred by the audiences. According to me the most happening reality shows were Indian idol; Nach Baliye and Jhalak Dikh La Ja.

There were many of them where I could actually see that the people judging the show were more likely to be contestants. The lack of judges judging the reality show is actually showing now.

Q-There are hardly any known faces in Nach baliye 4. Dont you think that's going to affect its popularity?
A-That's true but I guess nothing can be done about it coz all the known face s have already participated in it and the one who are remaining are busy somewhere else. The main hitch about this show is that you need to participate in it as a couple.

Q-So don't you think a gap was required so that the known and popular faces could have participated in it?
A-Look if I talk on behalf of a viewer then I would want to see Nach Baliye every year. If you have become a fan of a particular reality show then you wouldn't want to miss it for a single year. Just like me, in spite of not liking Bigg Boss I still sit in front of the TV. Every night to watch it, coz it's not the liking it's the habit.

Q-Before signing for the show did you try to find out whether the contestants whom you are going to judge are up to the mark or not?
A-Honestly speaking I never thought about it. during my last show Jo Jeeta Wahi Superstar I had a word with Star TV and that is when they asked me and I was pretty excited about the whole thing. Personally its one of my favourite shows so I dint bother to find out who the other judges or the contestants would be.

Q-Don't you think that with Arjun Rampal and Karishma Kapoor along with you the viewers expectations would go high?
A-I feel the viewers are really going to be happy after seeing such a mind-blowing panel of judges. This would be the first time when two bollywood stars would be seen as judges in the show. Normally they have a choreographer along with a director as a judge but with me they've got one on one free.

Q-In every reality show there's always a clash between the judges voting and the sms voting, keeping this in mind have you made any changes?
A-I have always wanted a fifty fifty opinion in my show. In Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar I almost changed the format of the show.

But I don't think we can neglect the sms voting coz that's the only way in which the viewers are attached to the show and how can we forget that they are the ones who actually help us in making the show popular.

Q-What would you like to tell about Indian Idol and Nach Baliye as there time and day of telecast would be the same?
A-There a lot of difference in both the shows as Indian Idol is a singing show while Nach is a dancing show and their viewers are also different. Given an option I personally would watch Nach Baliye than Indian idol coz I love to see rather than hear.

Q- Tell us a little about Happy new Year?
A- Happy New Year would be ready by the end of next year as of now we haven't started with the shooting of the film as I'm waiting for my kids to grow up so that I can take them with me wherever I go.

I know Celina's strengths and what she is capable of: Shreyas Talpade

The new 'Sajjan' Shreyas Talpade has taken over from the Iqbal and Dor types to the one doing Golmaal. What say?
(laughs). In fact when I was in theatre, there was a lot of comedy I did and I really enjoyed doing the plays. It is difficult to make people laugh but I guess if you enjoy doing it then people will enjoy seeing it too.

You are the only new comer from the bunch of four lunatics by taking Sharman Joshi's place. Did your role demand to see Golmaal part one?
I have seen Golmaal part one and now we begin from where my director Rohit Shetty left the four mad men (laughs). It is a new story and they are not friends in this new series. Ajay Devgan's character works in a company and I work under Ajay. Tusshar is Ajay's brother in law.

What was more important for me was jelling with the entire team because the chemistry from part one had to be continued in part two. I had to look as a part of the team and not a new comer in the gang. It was possible only because of my director Rohit Shetty, who is a cool guy, who made me comfortable and secondly Ajay, Arshad and Tusshar were superb in terms of improvising, co-operating and supporting me. I was made to feel at home right from day one.

In a recent interview with Celina in Mumbai, she revealed that the two co-stars she'd love to work again and again are Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade. What makes you special in front of her?
(laughs) This was the first time I've worked with Celina and for her to make that remark is inspiring. I was so pleasantly surprised by seeing her dedication and her approach towards her character, even in terms of improvising, suggesting and adding certain things.

We did a lot of masti together. If you have a co-star who is so enthusiastic and charged up to contribute then its complete fun to work. The whole rapport goes much beyond than just sharing the screen space. The kind of rapport me, Tusshar and Celina now have is, touchwood, amazing.

We talk nonsense and can go on for hours together talking bull sh**, but we have a great time. I would any day prefer working with Tusshar and Celina.

Is there any of your film to look out for opposite Celina or Tusshar?
Well, in fact, Celina and I have worked in a film together called Paying Guest. It's a Mukta Arts film directed by Paritosh Painter who is a well known theatre personality. I've known Paritosh since college.

We were in the same drama team for five years. It was like going back to the college nostalgia thing with Paritosh. With Celina, I knew her strengths and what she was capable of. So we had a ball shooting together.

What's 'Paying Guest' all about?
It's about four friends who are looking for a place to stay as Paying Guests and for that what all they need to do. It's shot in Bangkok.

Wow, you again go to Bangkok then?
(laughs). Yes. Seems like I will soon be getting a citizenship of Bangkok.

Now that Golmaal is returning, is Shreyas going to 'Tha Kar De' everyone?
(laughs) It's definitely going to work brother. There is a shock element in the film but I am happy for the fact that I am able to maintain some sort of a balance in the scripts I am signing, whether it may be comedy, horror or whatever.

I am proud of Golmaal Returns. 'Tha Kar Ke' is inspired from the Rajnikant film Sivaji which Rohit Shetty saw and thought that we should have a song like that. And there was a bit of scope of such a song in the film.

So all of us felt that we should do it. It has some 300 dancers, 150 stunt men with blasts happening and cars flying over each other. It's a fun song which took about 12 days to shoot. I am not sure how much was the cost involved but it definitely cost the producers a bomb.

What makes Golmaal Returns different from other comedy films you've done in the past?
In a way the genre is same. It's slapstick, mad and over the top kind of comedy. But the kind of twists and turns that are there in Golmaal Returns are amazing.

It has somewhere maintained the kind of honesty and innocence that was there in part one. So you won't find stars in the film but characters. Golmaal Returns has maintained the flavour of part one Golmaal.

You will always be remembered as a boy in Nagesh Kukunoor's Iqbal. Now Aashayein is on hold. Is it something that you've discussed with your friend Nagesh about?
See, I'm not a part of Aashayein. John Abraham is in it. So honestly I don't know the status of the film and what is really happening with it. I was told that they have postponed the release date for reasons best known to them. The film is complete and I am sure it must've shaped up really well knowing what Nagesh's capabilities are.

Has Nagesh approached you for any of his forthcoming projects?
I'm not a part of the three films he is doing right now. Tasveer with Akshay Kumar, Aashayein with John Abraham and there is one more he is shooting for in Jaipur as we talk.

But you know, with Nagesh, he knows that I'll be there for him and with him whenever he needs me. He has already made it clear that if a particular character suits me then it's only me who will do it and no one else.

So, I go by his word and am looking forward to work with him again. Even though he is filming, there is this unpredictable quality in him that I like. He keeps you on your toes as an actor. He has given me two of my best films in my career.

Let's return to Golmaal. Any premiere plans of Golmaal Returns in London just like your previous film Om Shanti Om had in Leicester Square?
I don't know. But going by the buzz, the curiosity is very positive just like Om Shanti Om.

We would love to be there in London because London has given me my biggest blockbuster till date. So you can say it's my lucky venue and I hope someday even my solo films get released in London and we have a premiere there.

Any parting message for your fans who are waiting for a blast this Diwali in the form of Golmaal Returns?
Well, I am sure they won't regret. They will have a great time and if they are expecting a blast, they will get a blast. They will only come out laughing by the end of the film.

I'd like to thank them all for their support and even Welcome to Sajjanpur might release shortly. So I hope both my films are able to bring a smile on their faces.

What is Vidya Malvade so proud about?

Vidya Malvade's reportedly super excited about the response to her new film 'Kidnap'. The fact that many critics have panned the film isn't bothering her at all. Some have even called her a non actress who 'can't act to save her life'. But Vidya's living in her own world and has 'reasons' to be happy about.

Apparently she's excited about her so called sexy avatar, a departure from her image in 'Chak De! India'. She's particularly pleased about the cleavage revealing outfits and the ravishing costumes she has donned in the film.

She's glad that people are comparing her and saying that she gave her on screen daughter Minissha Lamba stiff competition in the film!

She has also comfortably ignored the fact that many have been making fun of how the two ladies in the film tried to outdo each other with their skimpy clothes (Minissha of course got far more chances to do that)!

She's been saying, "I thought there was a very beautiful love story between Sanjay Dutt and my character. For me what worked was that lots of scenes were deleted and there is just one scene between me and Minissha to make a comparison that I look very young or like her sister.

For me it was very important to play this character. I don't come from a family of actors. I have struggled my way up till here."

Yeah, it must have worked for her since Minishaa's face gives away her age and she's doesn't really look like a 17 or 18 year old! That's another thing 'illogical' about this unreal thriller.

She's also said, "When I get a character which is really good, I am not going to give it up just because it is the role of a mom or a grand mom.

I am very clear in my head that even if I am playing a character older than my age, I will make sure that I perform in a way that it will seem real.

Now if people start offering me mother's role, I will say no to them as I have had already played one. If a good character comes to me in whatever form, I am going to grab it big time."

That's understandable since she's been struggling to make a mark for long in B-Town.

Vikram Bhatt's disaster 'Inteha' did nothing for her and only B grade movies happened after that. 'Cha De! India' helped but there were countless other girls to compete with.

What sore losers men can be: Malaika

Malaika Arora is shocked by television actor Bhaktyaar Irani's behaviour on the grand finale of reality dance show 'Zara Nachke Dikha' and says he had an 'attitude problem from day one'.

The male contestants led by Bhaktyaar staged an en masse walkout at the grand finale of STAR One's show last week after they realised they were losing.

The show pitted eight female celebrities against an equal number of guys. While the girls' team had Swini Khara, Narayani Shastri, Jennifer Winget, Delnaz Paul, Karishma Tanna, Maninee De, Mouni Roy and Rupali Ganguli, the boys team consisted of Amey Pandya, Chaitanya Chowdhary, Amit Tandon, Ali Asgar, Bhaktyaar Irani, Gaurav Chopra, Manish Goel and Vikas Sethi.

'Bhaktyaar definitely has a huge chip on his shoulder. I've been on other reality shows, in fact 'Zara Nach Ke Dikha' was my fourth. But never have I encountered such bad behaviour,' Malaika, who earlier judged 'Nach Baliye' for the channel, told IANS.

This is the first time the 'Chaiya chaiya' girl lost her cool as a judge.

'I lost my temper and I'm not ashamed of it. The guys really behaved badly, especially Bhaktyaar, who I noticed had an attitude problem from day one. He's a good dancer, but he can't take defeat.

'Since the show was formatted as a men vs women thing it was only natural that either the boys or the girls would win. But Bhaktyaar and the other boys just spoilt three months of the time we all spent together as a family on the show.'

Malaika judged 'Zara Nachke Dikha' along with actor Chunkey Pandey.

'Can you believe what sore losers men can be?'

Malaika is still shocked days after the event.

'I've always maintained the male ego is the worst thing in the world. There's no way we women can deal with it. But to come on a reality show, promising to be fair and sporting, then to walk out saying the judges didn't know their jobs was honestly a bit too much to take. I was aghast.'

What appalled Malaika even more was the fact that Bhaktyaar actually lashed out at guest judge Saroj Khan on television.

'I couldn't believe what I heard when I saw Bhaktyaar lashing out at Sarojji. Come on, she's a veteran, a legend in her field. Bhaktyaar really needs to put his ego to rest before going to another reality show.'

The grand finale was not the only time Malaika had a problem with Bhaktyaar.

'Once earlier I had intervened on behalf of my colleague Chunky Pandey. I wish the boys on 'Zara Nachke Dikha' had displayed more grace and chivalry. They proved Indian men treat women as the weaker sex. Luckily, I've a husband (Arbaz Khan) who treats me as an equal. But who knows how my son will turn out!'

The experience has left a bitter taste in Malaika's mouth. And she may not do another reality show for a while.

'In any case, I like to take a biggish break between two shows,' she said

Uday Chopra became too old for 'Kidnap': Sanjay Gadhvi

Director Sanjay Gadhvi gave Uday Chopra two of the best films of his career - 'Dhoom' and 'Dhoom 2'. But he gave the actor a miss in the recently released 'Kidnap' because he feels Uday grew 'too old' for the role.

Gadhvi wanted to make 'Kidnap' soon after 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai' with Uday in one of the main leads.

'The script for 'Kidnap' was being written in 2002, and the film was to be made right after 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai'. That time, Uday was supposed to do the film. Then 'Kidnap' kept getting delayed. Then 'Dhoom' happened and became a hit. After that we planned 'Dhoom 2'. So 'Kidnap' got further postponed,' said Gadhvi.

For 'Kidnap' Gadhvi wanted a young and fresh face and zeroed in on Imran Khan instead of Uday. However, he retained his first choice Sanjay Dutt for the other main lead in the movie.

'Sanjay suited his role perfectly, but Uday became too old for the role. Also, I feel that Ali's (funny) image from 'Dhoom' is still very strong in the audience's mind,' said Gadhvi.

'Imran is much younger than Uday. When I first met him, I felt he is an irregular guy. He's not the conventional person.'

Gadhvi says girls find Imran drop dead gorgeous, but he doesn't think so.

'Lots of girls and people would often look at Imran and say 'he is drop dead good looking', 'he's so cute', 'oh my god!' But I never felt that way. Drop dead good looking is Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.'

'Kidnap', produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd, released last week. The film was not received very well at the box office.

The crime thriller is about a young man, played by Imran who masterminds a series of events and circumstances that force a billionaire, Sanjay Dutt, to commit crimes to save his kidnapped daughter. Minissha Lamba plays Sanjay's daughter in the movie.

Critics have written off the movie, but Imran's performance has been lauded. The director too praises the actor.

'Imran was perfect for the casting because his body is different, his way of walking is different, his talking style is different and the best part is his eyes, they are very expressive. I liked two things in his eyes - they can hide pain and can even show pain if required. So that expressive thing about his eyes impressed me,' Gadhvi said.
