Revealed: Bhansali's new muse, Hrithik's love interest!

Move over Rani Mukerji, SLB has found his latest muse. Monikangana Dutta, another Bong hottie, will make an appearance as Hrithik Roshan’s ex-flame in ‘Guzaarish. The film also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Talking to a news daily, a close source from the sets of ‘Guzaarish’ revealed, “Aishwarya plays a married nurse who is a caregiver and treats Hrithik as he is a paraplegic patient after his accident. Prior to the accident, Roshan has a love interest in the movie for which Bhansali has signed Monikangana. The director recently signed the young lady and has kept it under wraps. She is under contract and is not allowed to talk to anyone until the movie’s release.” We also hear that Bhansali has singed her for a two-movie deal. Guzaarish will be the first and the second might be a solo launch for her. Monikangana is obviously very excited about bagging the role. She is not allowed to make many public appearances and remains discreet about the film deal. Guzaarish is said to be similar to John Badham’s Whose Life Is It Anyway? The film with dark undertones, also deals with the controversial issue of euthanasia. Ash’s character sparks off great interest with her playing a married woman who is attracted to Hrithik as the second half progresses. Incidentally, Hrithik Roshan is unaware of Dutta’s presence in the film. Adds an insider, “Aishwarya is married to debutant Aditya Roy Kapoor. Monika will be shooting for the next schedule. Her role is minuscule, but of great importance. Her character adds to the script.” When quizzed SLB confirmed the news of signing Monikangana Dutta and said, “Her role is pivotal to the love story. She’s a lovely girl.”

Two kisses and a steamy song: Soha sheds all inhibitions

Soha Ali Khan is finally coming out of the shell and recent pictures from Tum Mile are ample proof of that. After locking lips with Emraan Hashmi for the film, the duo has now shot a steamy music video at at a Yari Road bungalow which will be used for the promotion of the movie. While talking to a tabloid director Kunal Deshmukh reveals, "When I told Soha about the music video, her initial reaction was: 'What? You are selling sex!' She has this asexual tag to her. It is like Soha is not a sexy actress. But she has a great body and her 'no kiss, no this and no that' persona on screen is finally breaking through her head. She is now shedding all her inhibitions." Earlier, Kunal wanted to direct it himself but felt that it looked too made-up. That’s why; he asked Emraan and Soha to direct it themselves. He wanted the song to have an amateur feel. So, the two of them were handed video cameras and asked to shoot each other. Kunal is satisfied with the way the video has come out. Emraan and Soha enjoyed the experience as they felt they weren’t under any pressure. It is learnt that, Soha was intially not comfortable doing steamy scenes with Emraan but finally, on Deshmukh's insistence, she understood the need of the script and agreed to do it. “Well, at the beginning, I was a little reluctant and didn’t want to go ahead with the second kiss because the script demanded just one as was told to me. But when Kunal explained the seriousness of the requirement for another kiss in the song, saying it would convey an entirely different mood, I agreed to do it. But it’s a sweet, tame kiss and shot in good taste. The song is itself so beautiful that the kiss just adds a little more to it. After watching the song, I really loved it and understood how important the scene was,” says Soha. Adds Emraan, “I don’t think that there is any issue at all. Even I was told that there is just one kissing scene in the film, but when the second kiss scene piled on from the director’s point of view, the question was natural. So, I think Soha was correct in her reluctance. But she did understand the need of the scene and we did it comfortably.”

Tum Mile's Naming issues

Producer Mahesh Bhatt is rapidly thinking of titles to replace the title of his upcoming film, Tum Mile, even though there is hardly a month left for the film to release. The reason for suddenly wanting to change the title is that he feels it doesn’t suit the film’s story, which is about the Mumbai floods in 2005, and makes it sound like a romantic film. He asked director Kunal Deshmukh to change the title to either Aandhi or Toofan or Rain. Says Mahesh Bhatt, “I made a suggestion to Kunal to change the title of the film. The new title should have mass appeal so that more people can relate to the film." But Kunal feels the current title is appropriate. "Kunal has his own arguments about Tum Mile being apt, but we will sort out the issue soon, ” he adds. The film stars Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan.

I wouldn't be comfortable doing a nude scene: Urvashi Sharma

Urvashi Sharma, who made her debut with Abbas Mustan's 'Naqaab' failed to bag any prestigious project due to production house deal that prevented her from signing films under other banners. But now she has extricated herself from the deal and voila, she get 'The Bounty Hunter ', a film that would be funded by U.K. Film council. Sunandan Walia, who has earlier directed a documentary film titled 'Days and Nights in an Indian Jail', would be directing it. The Bounty Hunter comprises of British and British Asian cast including Kulvinder Ghir from 'Bend It Like Beckham'. We hear that it is a performance-oriented role but there is a nude scene in the film which she has declined to do. However, she is definitely in talks with the makers of the film. Says Urvashi, "I have wasted one year of my career because of this contract issue as I did not get to do films at all. But now that I'm out of it, I'm looking to do some quality work. I want to show people my acting skills and not just be recognised as a pretty face. I’m excited as I’m the only Indian girl in the film. I’m going to London this month to finalise things and one of the things that needs to be discussed is a nude scene. We need to figure out how it will be done or whether it needs to be done at all. I’m an Indian girl, and in the film I play an Indian girl with Indian values. I wouldn’t be comfortable doing a nude scene.” Back home, things are looking up as well. She has signed Chai Garam with Govinda and Sunil Shetty, and a song in an untitled Priyadarshan film that she says “is not an item number”. Ask her what wnt wrong with Revathy Varmha's Aap Ke Liye Hum and she says she opted out of the project because she was given post-dated cheques that bounced.

Saif continues to kiss Kareena, breaks all records!

A nod of approval from papa Randhir Kapoor has made Bebo and Saif a happy B-town couple and their joy is being reflected on reel as well. We hear that Saif and Kareena have created a record for the longest kiss on camera for their upcoming movie Kurbaan. According to unit sources, Saif continued to kiss Kareena and the kiss seemed to be never ending. It is one of the special attractions of the film. Director Rensil D'Silva wants to present the chemistry between the real life lovers in the movie. He is banking on the kissing scene so much so that Rensil believes that a certain section of the sex-starved audience will come to the theatres just to see Saif and Kareena in bed. "A section of the audience might have decided to see this movie only to see the real-life couple making hot shot on the silver screen. It would be tragic," says Rensil.

I am watching Aarav growing up to be a small Bruce Lee: Akshay Kumar

How do you feel now that you have bagged a Katana? To receive a Katana is considered an honour amongst the Japanese and Kukukai International told me that they decided to hand it over to me since they felt that it would be fitting since I have always propagated martial arts in India. I am thrilled and glad that I have been honoured with a Katana, a tradition practiced by Samurais and Martial artists and a 6th degree Black Belt in Kuyukai Gojuryu Karate as well by Kuyukai International from none other than Shihan Hirano Osamu, who is the world wide head of Ku Yu Kai. Few in the world hold this kind of an honour. Does this recognition give you even a bigger kick than being a Bollywood bigwig? This is my beginning as a karate learner in my journey to be a grand master. I started when I was a tiny tot and I have been working for this for the last 35 years. Anything to promote my art keeps me going. To tell you the truth, even if five films of mine were to click back to back, I’d not be as thrilled as I am today with this honour. Your Blue is being released with Main Aurr Mrs Khanna as well as All The Best during Diwali. How do you feel? I feel that if the film is good, it will run, whether it is a solo release or not. Blue is the first film shot in Bahamas under water with sharks. I am confident that the hard work that we put in Blue will pay us big dividends. It is Anthony D’Souza’s first film as a director and I am sure it will put him in the league of big directors. Do you think your son Aarav will follow in your footsteps? Right now, Aarav is too young for me to say whether he will take up acting or martial arts in future. He is just 7 years old. Right now he watches only Tom and Jerry cartoons. If Aarav wants to join martial arts he is welcome. Even if becomes a painter, as a father I’d be very proud. I am watching Aarav growing up to be a small Bruce Lee with his uniform in an orange belt. I used to do that when I was a kid. This will prepare him for his life ahead. I hope all dads will give their children the same opportunity to learn martial arts. I want to prove to parents what disciplined lives you get when you train for martial arts. Why did you think of holding the first ever National Karate championship in Mumbai? Mehul Vora, who is also training Shatrughan Sinha’s son Luv and my son Aarav, is the technical director and organizer of the first ever invitational National Karate championship. This is for the first time that I allowed him to attach my name to a tournament like this though earlier I was promoting martial arts in my own way without any publicity or fanfare. Mehul convinced me to give me name, since I want to give bigger canvass to martial arts in India. I want every child to experience a world class event. If the event goes well, I have plans to take this outside India too. Do you feel like a warrior now? I do not feel like a warrior, because I do not have that kind of mentality. The first thing that you learn when you get Katano is not to kill any one but vow to fight against all kinds of evils in you. One who conquers all evils in oneself is a true warrior. Tell me something about Master Shozo Ujita! Way back in 1952, he had begun training under Master Shozo Ujita, the past President of the Go-Ju-Kai federation and continued his training with Shihan Gogen Yamaguchi from 1963. In fact, he is currently one of the senior most Gojuryu karate grandmasters of the world equivalent to rank of Hanshi 10th Dan. The passing of the Katana is carried through generations of warriors and grandmasters. In what way has learning martial arts helped you, as an actor? I have always felt that it is great to meditate. Learning martial arts has helped me in every stage of my life, as an actor. I tell all parents to give a chance to their kids to go ahead and learn martial arts, because self defence will always help them in their lives in the future. Not just karate alone but any kind of martial arts is important. I am of the opinion that discipline helps you, whether you are an actor, builder or a dancer. Since I feel that the younger generation needs to be instilled with the kind of discipline that I have been having, I am trying to promote martial arts by having a four day tournament in Mumbai in a small way with as many as 2400 children from all over the country taking part in it. I hope that one day this tournament will emerge in a big way. Are you planning to start a school of martial arts in Mumbai? Yes. I need four acres of land to start a school of martial arts in Mumbai. As and when the government is ready to grant me land in a prime area, say like Lokhandwala Complex, I will be ready to start a school. You seem to be the only action hero who is into martial arts in Bollywood! Though I promote martial arts through action in my films, I am not the only actor who is into action and stunts. Today every actor is doing great action in films, whether it is Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt or for that matter Salman Khan and are good at it. Why just actors, today there are several young and beautiful girls also who have proved that they are no less when it comes to action by doing bold stunts in Khatron Ke Khiladi Fear Factor Level 2.

I will cry if Blue flops: Anthony D'Souza

Audiences will not cry when they watch Blue but if it goes wrong, I will Anthony D'Souza tells Jyothi Venkatesh. Are you scared that Blue is being released in competition with All The Best and Main Aurr Mrs Khanna? I really wish that I could say that I am not at all worried about competition and pray that more films should be released during Diwali, because I welcome competition. But the truth is that I am scared, because there are only good films and bad films and not big films and small films. Bollywood tends to be incestuous, because though we keep on bickering, at the end of the day we end up hugging one another. I wish that All The Best, Main Aurr Mrs Khanna and my own film Blue had been released one after the other separately, without cutting into each other’s throats. Can you elucidate? I have not shown my four year old son the promos of All The Best, because if I show him the promos of All The Best, he will like to see All The Best and not Blue. How big is Blue according to you? I still honestly have not realized how big is my film Blue, because at heart, I am a kid who feels that he is getting paid for blowing up cars. Were you not scared to shoot with real sharks? I was not at all scared to shoot with real sharks and whales because I feel that the most dangerous species on this earth is not the sharks but Man himself. Which are the directors who you admire a lot? Imtiaz Ali, Anurag Kahsyap and Shriram Raghavan are the directors who I admire a lot. However, if you were to ask me whether I’d be able to compete with them, all that I can say is that I would not. Instead I’d like to stick to my strength. What is your strength as a director? Visuals, style and flamboyance are my strengths as a director. How did you bag the opportunity to direct your debut film? I am a new director and had never even assisted any filmmaker before I bagged the opportunity to direct Blue. To my credit, I have only directed 75 ads and 25 music videos. I had also directed the 52 episodes of the popular TV show Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. It was thanks to John Abraham, who I had literally hounded almost for three years from the time he had made his debut with Jism, who put me in touch with producer Dhilin Mehta of Shri Ashtavinayak Films. Why did you not cast John Abraham in your film? When Dhilin asked me whether I wanted to cast John in my film, I told him that I did not want John because his image as a biker is still too storing after Dhoom and hence I wanted Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt in my film. It was Sanjay who suggested that I cast Zayed as his brother in the film. Zayed is fabulous in my film as an actor. It is a pity that he has still not been exploited to his maximum potential. In what way is Blue similar to Jaws? Blue is similar to Jaws, Abyss and Deep, only as far as sea and action are concerned, not as far as it’s concept is concerned. Would you agree that Blue lacks the emotional quotient? Yes. Emotional quotient is lacking in Blue because it is a film which will not make you cry. It is a roller coaster ride to great entertainment. If it flops, of course it is, I who will end up crying. The only person, who should be blamed if the film goes wrong, is me. What kind of films do you want to make as a director? I want to make films which kids of five would see, laugh and jump. I do not have the sensibility to make art films like Uski Roti, because I remember when I went to watch that film, a guy who was bored with the film started walking in the theatre from left to right almost throughout the show. What is your ambition as a film maker? My ambition is to make a dark romantic film, because I believe that true lovers will never have a happy ending. Romance cannot be happy by itself because two human beings can never be the same. Even a marriage can survive only when one of the two is ready to make compromises. I am married and my marriage is a success because my wife was ready to make compromises. Do you plan to make a sequel to Blue? Blue does have an open ending, but it is not intentional. Whether to make a sequel or not is a call which will be taken by Shri Ashtavinayak Productions who have spared no pains to make the film the costliest in the history of Indian Cinema. Have you planned your next film? My next venture will also be an action packed film, though it will be in an entirely different league. Besides having Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Zayed Khan, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif, my next film will also have three more big stars. Will it also be a multi star film like say Salaam E Ishq? Spare me. I am not a sensible director like Nikhil Advani to set out to make a film like Salaam-E-Ishq. Shall I say all the best to you while signing off now? Please tell me All The Blue and All The Best, because I have directed Blue and not All The Best. (Chuckles)

Blue - Movie Review

Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Akshay Kumar, Zayed Khan, Lara Dutta, Katrina Kaif Kylie Minogue Director : Anthony D'Souza Rating: **** When the makers of a film proudly proclaim their product to be at par with their Hollywood counterparts, one is bound to be sceptical. More so because "Blue" is an action film, that too set underwater, which is not just a first in Bollywood but also a rarity in Hollywood. So does "Blue" set new standards for Bollywood action movies? Does it actually get into the underbelly of the sea and show a world hitherto unexplored? The answer is yes. Let's put it this way - "Blue" may not be the mind-blowing commercial action thriller that you would have ever seen. However, it certainly is the most innovative attempt that deserves to be acknowledged and lauded. Action is truly the USP of the film and keeps the momentum going for "Blue" due to which one doesn't quite miss the presence of a solid storyline. From first till the last frame, it's the amalgamation of action and an unknown world (under the sea) which brings in a novelty factor. For those hunting for a storyline, "Blue" actually begins and ends at the basic synopsis level. Mr. Richie Rich Akshay Kumar wants a treasure to be explored and entices his employee and friend Sanjay Dutt with tempting offers. Dutt is reluctant to take that dive into the sea even though his girlfriend Lara Dutta and brother Zayed Khan do present him enough reasons to take the plunge. Eventually he relents and the journey of "Blue" begins. Simple. There are five key action sequences that keep the pace up for the film. Each of the three bike sequences featuring Zayed become better and better and in fact his introduction a la 'Fast and the Furious' is something unique for an Indian film. The boxing ring sequence featuring Sanjay and Akshay does hint of "Broken Arrow", though it works in establishing their characters. Most importantly, the entire underwater hunt sequence is a breathtaking affair. Anthony D'Souza has a strong eye for visuals and that shows. Technically, whether it is camerawork or sound, "Blue" bears an international feel. Whether it's Sanjay or Akshay, the revelation about their past isn't quite hammer strong, even though convincing. Moreover, even though the film is a multi starrer, one does expect Akshay to be on the forefront. However, for a change, a film featuring him does allow equal screen space for other actors as well. As for Lara and Katrina Kaif, their presence is required to make the film look good and in that aspect, they do well. In a nutshell, "Blue" is made for those who want pulsating action, innovative stunts, glamour and some unbelievable moments that defy logic. It mainly caters to the youth that just want some non stop action in those two hours while keeping James Bond movies in mind. The kind of films where bikes are meant to race through traffic, cars are meant to explode, women are meant to bring on a glamour quotient, villains are meant to be suave, action is meant to belong to never-seen-before variety and technical aspects are meant to be superior to the best.

What made Abhishek behave rudely?

He’s also getting jealous on sets of ‘Raavan’

We don’t know what’s bothering Abhishek Bachchan. Is it the pressure of living under the shadow of powerful family members or the fact that his career still has not gone places despite hits like “Dostana”?

Abhishek showed his rude side at an event in Bangalore recently. During a press conference, a journo from a leading newspaper posed a question to him, which he did not like. In haste, he ordered the journo to be thrown out of the venue.

Not only that, a few hours later the female journalist got a call from Abhi’s publicist asking her to come over and give a written statement that she had been rude to the Jr. Bachchan and that it was all her fault and not Abhi’s!

Meanwhile, it’s also being said that Abhi’s ‘Raavan’ co-star Ravi Kishan is making him jealous and insecure. Apparently, director Mani Ratnam is very happy with Ravi’s work and keeps praising him, which is making Abhishek sulk.

Ravi is playing Abhishek’s brother in the much-awaited film, which also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Govinda.

Abhishek is banking a lot on “Raavan” and has worked very hard on his role, which he’s hoping turns out to be the best negative performance ever.

Amitabh gets 1,207 SMSes on birthday

He thanks fans who waited outside his residence

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan received 1,207 SMSes on his 67th birthday from fans, family and relatives. He says that the deluge of messages jammed his cellphone.

"I feel blessed to have so much love and affection from others. It is the greatest debt that I shall carry to my grave and one that I shall never be able to pay back... Family and friends called me and 1207 SMSes jammed the mobile," Amitabh posted on his blog on Sunday (Oct 11) night.

Big B, as he is fondly called, also had hordes of fans waiting outside his residence to greet him on the occasion.

"It was rough from the early hours of the morning - meeting and receiving the love and affection of the hundreds that were at the gates. Moving out and driving in to our own houses was a mini riot. But the faces that slammed against the walls of the car (windows) were happy ones, excited ones and ones that merely wanted to express love," he posted.

Amitabh also apologised to those "who came with wishes; that came with a desire to meet and greet, that had through great pain and perseverance kept vigil and then lost out on an opportunity to wish me."

"To the hundreds that thronged the three locations Prateeksha, Jalsa and Janak and bore the pushing and shoving of the police and the security, to them I give my gratitude and thanks for taking the trouble to show their affection and love," he added.

Rani Mukerji makes TV debut

She will be called 'Queen of DPL' on the show

After a string of big ticket celebrities who have taken to reality shows on the small screen, it's now actress Rani Mukerji's turn. She is set to judge Sony TV's "Rin Dance Premier League" (DPL) along with actor Arshad Warsi and dance guru Shiamak Davar.

According to the channel, Rani will add to the scale, glamour and credibility of the show that premiered on Friday (Oct 9). She will be called "Queen of DPL" on the show and will decide the fortunes of the competing teams.

While Shiamak Davar will be evaluating performances and setting the difficulty level as the competition progresses as an 'umpire' on the show, Arshad will be a ‘guest judge' for the auditions.

The show will have teams from different zones from across the country as well as abroad competing with each other. It is expected to highlight India's rich and diverse culture as each regional team will bring its own unique flavour to the performances.

Every zone will comprise of eight dancers and will be guided by their coach. Choreographers like Pappu Malu, Nagendra Prasad, Uma-Gaiti, Harshall-Vitthal, Mini Johny and Howard Rosemeyer will be donning the role of mentors.

Popular TV celebrities Eijaz Khan and Sara Khan will host the weekend show.

Produced by Cineyug, the show has already been backed by actors like Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sohail Khan, Bipasha Basu and other celebrities like Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble, Sanjay Banger, Baichung Bhutia and rapper Hard Kaur.

Bipasha Basu out of Raavan... Reveals Why!

Bipasha Basu, who now looks forward to multi-starrer comedy "All The Best", has dismissed rumours that her role in Mani Ratnam's "Raavan" was cancelled because her character posed a threat to the other actresses - Aishwarya Rai and Priyamani. She insists it was an amicable decision between her and the director. Rumour mills were abuzz that Bipasha's role of Mandodari opposite Abhishek Bachchan in the film was suspended because her part was overpowering as compared to the other female stars. "They were all rumours and only rumours. I am not a part of 'Raavan'. I was initially a part of 'Raavan' but Mani sir thought he couldn't do justice to my role... as to whatever he had promised me would definitely be in conflict with the actual story of the film once it is shot, " Bipasha told in an interview. "So he took a call instead of being in an embarrassing position later on. He decided to tell me that and amicably we decided that it should not be done...hopefully we'll work together soon. So now there's going to be no Mandodari in the film, " she added. The film also stars Nikhil Dwivedi and Tamil actor Vikram. Bipasha was in the capital to promote her forthcoming release "All The Best - Fun Begins" that is releasing Friday. Distributed by Yash Raj Films, the laughathon has been directed by Rohit Shetty. Apart from Bipasha, it also stars Fardeen Khan, Mugdha Godse, Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn, who has produced the comedy. " 'All The Best' is a situational comedy and a total entertainer. It deals with a lot of mistaken identities, people lying and getting into trouble, " Bipasha said. "My character is called Jahnvi who is married to Ajay in the film. She is a straightforward girl who is trying to run her life and family by looking after a totally rundown gym. She cons people to join the gym by lying because by the looks of it, nobody wants to join it, " she added. Apparently this is the 30-year-old's sixth movie with Ajay after "Zameen", "Apaharan", "Shikhar" and "Omkara". "We also did a film together with Sanjay Dutt that was completed 50 percent, "Mr.Fraud" (shelved), " she said. Asked how her co-star was as a producer, she said: "He is a very good producer. He in fact gifted me a Blackberry apart from giving me the money for the film. What's important is that at the end of the day he is a very good friend and a very good co-star. "I've known Ajay for quite some time now. He is very entertaining and makes you laugh and he's a fabulous actor." Bipasha says she agreed to do "All The Best" after she realised it had the same essence as "No Entry". "I have done comedies before like 'No Entry' and 'Phir Hera Pheri'... And I really got the same flavour as 'No Entry' when 'All The Best' was narrated to me. "I laughed throughout the narration and I thought if a film could entertain me so much on a narrative level, I need to be a part of it because I wanted to see it made, as it's hilarious, " she said. Apart from "All The Best", Bipasha's future projects include "Lamha", "Pankh" and Priyadarshan's next.

Singers: KK, Alisha Chinoy, Atif Aslam, Javed Ali, Kailash Kher, Neeraj Shridhar, Sunidhi Chauhan, Mika Singh, Hard Kaur, Soham, Rana Mazumdar, Ashish Pandit and Suzzane D Mello Lyricist: Irshad Kamil Music Director: Pritam Chakraborty Rating: *** "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani", which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, is music director Pritam Chakraborty's eighth release this year and he has once again done a great job by composing music that is energetic, contemporary and pleasing. "Aa jao meri tamanna" sung by Javed Ali is a breezy song. The combination of high and low pitch vocals gives this romantic number an edge. In short, it is sweet and hummable. The song also has a remixed version, which is faster in pace. But the original is much better. "Follow me" is a hip-hop number and has Hard Kaur behind the mike. It has a contemporary feel and Hard Kaur excels in what she does best - rap. Next in line is "Main tera dhadkan teri", which is a power-packed song with vocals by three talented singers - KK, Sunidhi Chauhan and Hard Kaur. The energetic track has good musical backing. The remixed version of "Main tera dhadkan teri" has nothing extraordinary to offer. "Oh my god" sung by Mika Singh and Sunidhi doesn't impress much. It starts with the typical wedding music, but lacks punch and good lyrics. Up next is "Prem ki naiyya", a confluence of rustic vocals and western music that has been crooned by Neeraj Shridhar and Suzzane D'mello. But this song does get a tad boring. The remixed version too doesn't have anything new to offer. "Tera hone laga hoon", another mushy offering by Pritam, is a song already popular on the radio and music channels. Sung by Atif Aslam and Alisha Chinoy, it starts with English lyrics and then graduates to Hindi. It's a beautiful, soothing love ballad that is well sung. The remixed version has more beats and increased pace. Finally there is the best song of the album - "Tu Jaana na". It has three versions apart from the original, which starts with a chorus. It's a soft song by Atif Aslam that instantly strikes a chord with the listener. The musical backing is neither too low nor too loud. The vocals are a plus for the song. Next is the remixed version of the song, which is disappointing. The beats in the song seem to be forced and not properly placed. Then we have the reprise version sung by Soham, Rana Mazumdar and Ashish Pandit. It is quite similar to the original song; only that the singers are different. Nonetheless, a nice version. Finally there is the unplugged version, which is the best. Kailash Kher's voice takes the song to another level altogether. One can listen to this song again and again for its soul-stirring effect. On the whole, the music of "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani" is a must hear and has the potential to be on top of the charts.

What is Sanjay Dutt doing in Aladin?

Sanjay Dutt didn't require much convincing or cajoling to come on board for Aladin.

The moment he heard the film's concept, genre and they way it was envisioned to be brought on screen, he agreed to do the film pronto. He was impatient about the film going on floors. His character is like that of evil magician Jafar in the Disney version of Aladin.

Says a source associated to the film, "Sanju baba actually became quite childlike when he was narrated the concept of Aladin. He hasn't worked in a film belonging to this genre before, the kind that involves fairytale elements embellished in a narrative that is set in today's times. The legend of Aladin and Genie is known worldwide and Sanju baba didn't require much thinking to be a part of the project. As a fun loving villain, who was capable of showing the mean side of his at any given moment, the character was tailor-made for him and he connected to that instantly when the part was explained to him."

Incidentally, it was Amitabh Bachchan himself who first had a word with Sanjay Dutt about his role of Ringmaster in Aladin.

Confirms Sujoy Ghosh, "Yes, after I had an elaborate narration of Aladin with Mr. Bachchan, we were discussing who could play the role of Ringmaster. We agreed that it had to be Dutt saab and I was supposed to contact him the next day. However, to my surprise, before I could speak to Dutt saab, Mr. Bachchan had already spoken to him. When I met him, he mockingly pulled me for not speaking to him directly. I explained that I had all the right intentions to do so but didn't have any clue that Mr. Bachchan would himself take the first step."

Kicked about the entire idea, "I still remember it was year 2006," Sujoy gets nostalgic here, "Dutt saab was so excited about donning the hat of Ringmaster. Pun intended."

Sanjay Dutt had a condition though before saying yes. "Yes, he didn't want anyone to fiddle around with his look," laughs Sujoy, "His only condition was that he wanted the moustache of Ringmaster to be kept intact. Of course, we had no reason not to agree."

Aladin releases on October 30.

Ash was never meant to be in Gowariker's next

Actress and filmmaker deny reports

Aishwarya Rai has refuted rumours that she was to play the female lead opposite her husband Abhishek Bachchan in Ashutosh Gowariker's next "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se". The actress says that the director knew about her packed schedule and the discussion never took place.

Recent media reports suggested that Aishwarya was to play the lead role before Asin was finalised for the film opposite actor Abhishek. But both - the actress and filmmaker - deny it.

"I don't have the dates right now as my schedule diary is super packed. This film ('Khelein Hum...') starts next month. So there never was that possibility," Aishwarya, who played Rajput princess Jodhabai in Gowariker's historical epic "Jodhaa Akbar", told IANS.

"And since Ashu (Ashutosh Gowariker) is a close friend and his main lead is my husband, they obviously knew it. So the discussion didn't even arise," she added.

Gowariker confirmed it saying: "I had not approached her (Aishwarya) for 'Khelein Hum...'. Aishwarya, for me, belongs to a fairytale. She is a quintessential princess and by far one of the finest actresses we have.

"But we need to plan things in advance. She is extremely professional and hence I would never like to upset her schedules in any way. I'm very happy with the coming together of Abhishek and Asin."

"Khelein Hum..." will feature Abhishek as freedom fighter Surya Sen, who was the chief architect of anti-British freedom movement in Chittagong, now in Bangladesh.

This will be Gowariker's second period film after "Lagaan".

No takers for ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’?

Big B and Shah Rukh have refused to host the show

It had changed Amitabh Bachchan’s life forever, but today the show has no takers. Yes, we are talking about “Kaun Banega Crorepati”.

The show gave a new lease of life to Big B’s career several years ago. It had marked his hugely successful comeback after a major slump in his career. Bachchan’s popularity only soared thereafter.

Today, it’s the show which needs rescuing.

Apparently, producer Siddharth Basu is running from door to door to find some takers as he readies for the fourth season of the game show. Both Shah Rukh Khan and Big B have bluntly refused to host the show. Even leading channels like Sony, Star, Zee and Colors have said that they have enough on their hands and are not willing to air the show.

Will this mark an end to KBC, which was at one point of time the biggest attraction on Star Plus?

The relationship between KBC and Bachchan soured when Big B left the show due to some illness. He could not shoot the remaining episodes and later SRK was roped in. Though, Bachchan settled the matter, he apparently made up his mind never to work on this show again.

Hrithik is the new kamina!

Buzz is Vishal Bhardwaj has finally signed on Hrithik Roshan for his next film.

News is making the rounds that Hrithik Roshan has finally signed on the dotted line for Vishal Bhardwaj’s next ambitious project. Right after Kaminey, Vishal began work on his next project and zeroed down on Hrithik for the lead. But Hrithik who had signed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzarish was too busy preparing himself for the part and had put Vishal’s film on the backburner. Sanjay’s film is said to be based on Hollywood film The Prestige starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale and Hrithik plays a paraplegic in the film. Hrithik has already begun preparing himself for the role and was literally moving around in a wheelchair for a month to get into character.

While Sanjay’s film is based on The Prestige, a source close to Vishal reveals details about his next, “Vishal has been waiting for Hrithik to give the go ahead for the film for quite a while now. Hrithik was apprehensive whether he’d be able to work for Vishal and Sanjay’s film at the same time as both the films would be physically and mentally draining for him. Vishal’s film is loosely based on The Departed which was directed by Martin Scorsese and starred Leonardo Dicaprio and Matt Damon. Departed was in itself a remake of the Hollywood flick Infernal Affairs about how the mob and the cops face a similar situation, unable to comprehend the terrible consequences that await them. Vishal known for his gritty, dark cinema instantly connected with the storyline and is only going to get down and dirty with the script. He is still to finalise on the mob boss and the third lead and a few of the other pre-production details.”

The Departed received innumerable number of Awards and is held as one of Scorsese's best. Whether Hrithik would play the part of mob iformant Matt Damon or the cop informant Leonardo Dicaprio is yet to be known. Still Hrithik has already proved that no one can play the smooth criminal as better as him and we can only wait and watch whether the genius Bhardwaj plans on making Hrithik the next most wanted kamina or not!

Why Katrina loves Ranbir

Katrina Kaif’s New York revived the box office. She will be seen in full-fledged roles in two films this year, Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani and De Dana Dan and a special appearance in Blue. The gorgeous actress tells us about her latest film, director Rajkumar Santoshi and working with Ranbir Kapoor who is the next big thing.

“It’s been a great honour to work with Rajji. I have done most of my films with Akshay and Salman. I asked them who is the best director for an actor to work with and both of them answered that it was Rajkumar Santoshi. I had an amazing time working with him. I had a great time shooting the songs in Turkey and am grateful to Ahmed Khan for the fantastic choreography and Pritam for the wonderful music, as always,’ smiled Katrina.

Katrina has usually played the glam doll in most of her films except New York and, in APKGK her character seems to be more than just a pretty face. How does she feel about that? ‘I think I am very privileged that I keep getting fresh new chances with every film to better myself as an actress. In my opinion, Rajji has s reputation of not being just a fantastic director but also a fantastic director for actors and their performances. He has taught me a lot about improvisation. He has given my character and persona a new angle. It’s not anything like you have seen in New York or Singh is Kinng. It’s a completely different interpretation of Jenny, my character. Ranbir and I followed his guidance. We were always on the sets because being around Rajji, because you get to understand how he envisions the scene. Before every shot, he would enact my part and then enact my part. And we both would just stare at him in amazement. Then the two of us would have a competition as to who can copy him best. We just needed to follow his direction,’ she replied.

She and Ranbir are being touted as the best-looking on-screen pair of the year. About working with Ranbir Kapoor, she said, ‘He is a very talented actor and a very sweet guy. He is always lively and he fills the set with energy and enthusiasm. He makes sure everyone is having a good time. He is a positive force to be around. He is fantastic actor and dancer.’
