Deepika to pair with Hrithik in Bhansali's next

She's been considered hot property right from the time she started modeling. And after OSO, she's become Tinsel Town's coveted girl.

Well, the hype around Deepika is understandable. She's got expressive good looks and an Ash like aura, unlike the other hyped hot property (by default), the stiff and wooden Katrina Kaif.

With the successful 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' behind her, she has another big one 'Chandni Chowk To China' with hit machine Kinng Kumar lined up!

She has Saif's ambitious home production as well! Thanks to her rocking real life pairing with Ranbir Kapur, she's always in the news too!

Now Deepika has another reason too to be cheerful about! Sanjay Leela Bhansali has selected her for a leading role opposite Hrithik Roshan, no less!

We remember that as OSO's leading lady and debutante she had to face competition from Bhansali's 'Saawariya', around this time last year.

But, now she has impressed the creative director too!

The buzz is that Bhansali is trying to get the rest of the cast sorted by end of this month and expects to start shooting as soon as Hrithik completes his current movie, 'Kites.'

This sure is one lucky girl!

Mumbai's street pups inspired Roadside Romeo: Jugal Hansraj

Cute pups playing by the roadside; yawning, scratching, winking at one another and chasing vehicles on the streets of Mumbai - that is what inspired actor-turned-director Jugal Hansraj to write and direct his animation film "Roadside Romeo".

"I was stuck in a traffic jam in Mumbai once and I saw some stray dogs playing near a garbage pile. They were running behind scooters and seemed so happy and oblivious of the world around them.

They were so involved in their own game that I thought how about telling their story and that's how the idea of 'Roadside Romeo' came to me, " Jugal told in an interview.

"Roadside Romeo" is India's first ever three-dimensional (3D) mainstream animation venture. Releasing Friday, it is co-produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF) Studio and Hollywood studio Walt Disney Co. It is visualised, executed and delivered by a 150 member team of Tata group's Tech arm Tata Elxsi.

The film has eight voice overs including Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and versatile actor-dancer-mimicry artiste Javed Jaffrey. They have lent their voice for the lead characters in the movie - Romeo, Laila and Charlie Anna respectively.

Asked the basis on which he chose these actors for the voiceovers, Jugal said: "I had Saif, Kareena and Javed in mind since the time the film was in the writing stage. The characters are like them.

For example, Romeo is based on Saif - cool, rich and stylish and likewise for Laila and Charlie Anna's character that is inspired from Kareena and Javed.

Jugal started his career as a child artiste in the 1983 with "Masoom". In 1994 he featured as a full-fledged actor in "Aa Gale Lag Ja" - he was paired with Urmila Matondkar, who played his sister in "Masoom", in the romantic saga that bombed at the box office.

He was noticed in "Papa Kehte Hain" and "Mohabbatein". But the films failed to boost his acting career and now he is trying his luck as a director.

Jugal says "Roadside Romeo" happened by chance.

"The movie wasn't planned actually. I love animation films and I used to be very fascinated by how they are made. I used to buy all books and DVDs on animation. At the same time, Adi (Aditya Chopra), who is a very good friend of mine since college days, wanted to make an animation film in India that was completely for the Indian audience.

"Considering my love for animation, he approached me and I wrote some ideas for him and he liked 'Roadside Romeo' a lot and asked me to start developing the project. It took me 20 drafts before the film got finalised, " he said.

Despite his love for animation, Jugal did have a tough time working on the project.

"Animation can be done by someone only who loves it because it requires a lot of patience. For example, when I didn't like a particular scene or an expression of a character, it took not less than two days to recreate the whole scene. It took two-and-a-half years to shoot the 90-minute movie.

"We managed to make the film because of my love for animation and my being very patient in life, " said the shy and reclusive Jugal.

Apart from donning the writer and the director's cap, Jugal has also dabbled in singing and dubbing for the movie.

"I've done a couple of four liners in the dialogues for the extras and a few lines with the music director Salim as a part of the chorus in songs, " he shared.

Jugal is also toying with a couple of more animation movie ideas.

He is both nervous and confident about "Roadside Romeo".

"I am having butterflies in the stomach as the release date is approaching. There is fear and a bit of apprehension too as it is my debut project but still I am sure people will like the movie. It's a fun-filled movie for both kids and adults and has been made for them to have a good time, " he said.

I am missing love in my life: Celina

Celina Jaitely is fed up of being linked with her co-stars.

It all started with her alleged link up with Emraan Hashmi while they were working together in Jawani Diwani and was followed up with Govinda as they were doing Money Hain To Honey Hain together. Now there are rumours floating around in media circles about her latest lover boy being her Golmaal Returns co-star, Tusshar Kapoor.

A hassled Celina denying her alleged affairs as mere rumours tells us, "It is so strange that someone who has been alleged to have affairs is looking for love desperately."

"I am just good friends with Tusshar and we got along famously during the Goa and Bangkok schedules of Golmaal Returns is all I can say. We worked together and there is nothing more to it. I simply do not understand this link-up rumour business!" says Celina.

"I am missing love in my life. I have been single for three and half years. Besides love, I have everything going great in my life. I have a busy year ahead. Tusshar has been very supportive and I really appreciate that." Celina adds.

Sounding pretty excited about her upcoming release, Golmaal Returns she says, and "I think I have formed a relationship with comedies instead".

(Laughs) My co-star in the film is Shreyas Talpade and it is my third film with him. I enjoy working with him. I must admit that I grow every time I do a scene with him. His comic timing is so good.

We used to improvise our scenes together a lot. It will all reflect on screen when you see it on big screen." Celina concludes.

I got six pack to play stripper for Riya song: Vatsal Sheth

The 'Tarzan' boy has suddenly become a 'Hero'. What say?
(laughs) I was always one. Something really interesting came up and I am very happy to be a part of Heroes.

You haven't acted in many films, and all of a sudden Heroes comes your way to be the only big film in your career so far. Is it a blessing?
I am very excited to be a part of such a huge film. It's like a blessing, you're right. I am quite fortunate to share the same screen space with all the biggies. I can't wait for Heroes to release right now.

So you've joined the bandwagon too huh? Six pack is back.
(laughs) I am not a guy who is just going to bulk it up. It's just that in the film, there is one particular song where I and Sohail are shown as strippers. So, for that sequence I had to go topless or should I say shirtless (laughs).

I needed to work out for that song and I am very sorry to say but I don't have a six pack as of yet. I've got a very achievable and a real body. It's not a body who somebody will look and say - Oh wow!

Samir Karnik told me that you got to be real. Whatever you do, people should identify with your character. So my body can be compared to any one else's. Plus, to look like Sohail Khan's buddy, you need to put on a bit of weight. He has a certain screen age which I don't.

So, I had to age up and grow my hair too. Not just that, also a stubble to match up with a man like Sohail. I was very happy when I saw the final look of mine onscreen.

Will Heroes turn you into a Nawab Saab? That's your name in the film right?
You got it. I hope so (laughs). A lot of effort has been put in to make me look like one, but it may turn me into a Nawab Saab, can't say for sure.

You and Sohail Khan are the main protagonists of Heroes. How's the road trip been?
The way you put it isn't right. Honestly speaking, this is a film which is character oriented. There is no protagonist; no main lead, etc. All the actors in the posters are characters.

I play Nawab Saab, Sohail plays Sameer aka Saand because of his bulky body, Salman bhai is Balkar Singh, etc. When you watch the film you will notice that there is no protagonist.

So how was it to be sharing screen space with all the biggies?
Initially, I was very nervous. The first person I met was Sohail Khan. But the first day I met him, he treated me like his younger brother.

He helped me throughout Heroes. He is my real life hero and the best co-star to have. Apart from that, I've worked with Preity Zinta in the 'Cadbury Perk' commercial five to six years back. She is a sweetheart. It was great fun talking to her.

She is always full of beans and always charged up. We were shooting at 3 am and the only voice one could hear was of Preity Zinta who was talking, talking and talking!

You missed out Salman Khan...
(laughs) No I haven't and I can't. I've seen Salman bhai since his Maine Pyar Kiya days. I used to always ape him when I was in school. So I was over the moon to be working with him in this film. He is the perfect buddy one can have.

He invited me over to his gym and we used to work out together. He also gave me some good tips. Then comes Mithundada. We've seen all his great films such as Disco Dancer and Agneepath and he is like a father figure.

I'm sure you can recall some memorable incident with Mithunda.
Yes I do. This happened in Ladakh. Let me tell you that I am a very fussy vegetarian and that I love lady fingers and potatoes. That's why I had a very tough time getting my food right.

Mithundada, somehow, got to know about my fussy habit. He then cooked the best ever 'bhindi ki sabzee' for me yaar! It's the most amazing meal I've ever had. For 15-20 days prior to that, I didn't have a proper meal and on that day, I didn't regret missing those hungry days.

Also, one day we were cracking jokes and Mithuda was laughing so much that we had to call the doctor. But it wasn't serious. He said, "Maine aaj tak kabhi socha nahin tha ki tum saale log mujhe haste haste ludka doge".

We will have to talk about Samir Karnik here. Has he grown 'bade' after 'Nanhe'?
This is a very creative medium and everybody grows from their work experience. That's what I feel. I read Amitji's interview and he too said that everytime he does a film, he learns something new from that.

Samir was so clear in his characters that when he was narrating me the script, I was actually seeing the film. He was clear as to what kind of clothes I will be wearing in Heroes, but it's not that he was not open for suggestions. It was great fun to work with him again.

Heroes is going to be pitted against yet another multi-starrer Golmaal Returns…two totally different genre films but both with A-list actors. Will it be a mad rush at the ticket window?
Even if ten good films were to release in together, every film is going to do well. I think it's all about honesty. The more honest you are to your film, the better it'll work.

Heroes is a different topic altogether with a very sweet message along with some entertainment value. On the other hand, you've got 6-7 big stars. What else do you need to have for mad rush at the box office?

You forgot another USP of Heroes.
What?

Riya Sen…
(laughs) Yes, she plays my love interest. I've never worked with her before and I am also doing another film with her post Heroes. It's nice to work with people who don't have too much of ego. It gives a very positive vibe when you're working with such people. Riya is one of them.

Before you go, we need to know which Salman Khan incident shocked you?
This is an incident which not many people know about. The image of Salman bhai in media is that of a bad boy but he is not like that at all. He plays Balkar Singh, a Sikh, in the film.

We were shooting in Chandigarh. He didn't want to put a fake beard and had especially grown one for the role. The pagdi which he was wearing was not like a ready made one. He also tied it out which used to take at least twenty minutes.

So I remember the two of us sitting in the van and the assistant director comes in and informs us that there had been a change in location. So Salman bhai said, "Oh God, I can't even smoke now".

I asked him, "What happened Salman Bhai, why can't you smoke?" He then replied, "Who is going to take out the pagdi and smoke and then again wear the pagdi?" This goes to show that he respected the turban so much.

Sameera goes De Dana Dan with Akki-Katrina

The super-prolific Priyadarshan's next comedy De Dana Dan, a kind of followup though not a sequel to Hera Pheri for producer Ratan Jain (of Venus), just got bigger…and delayed.

The film now features Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Suniel Shetty and, surprisingly Sameera Reddy.

Says the sultry actress, "I've never worked with Priyan before. But I think he liked my comic timing in Race where I played Anil Kapoor's airheaded assistant. That's how I am in De Dana Dan. I've always been a big Priyan fan, by the way."

However Sameera's enthusiasm will have to wait. Priyan's next has now been shifted from November 2008 to January 2009, partly because Priyan is busy with the Darsheel Safary project Bam Bam Bhole.

Sighs the super-successful director, "Bam Bam Bhole is not a small arthouse film. It's a full-on entertainer. And it needs nurturing. Once I release Billo Barbar I need to promote Bam Bam Bhole properly. De Dana Dan with Akshay, Katrina, Sameera Reddy, Suniel Shetty and Neha Dhupia has gone forward by a few months."

This was meant to be the Southern sensation Asin's launch pad.

"Yes, " concedes Priyan. "But only initially. Once the script crystallized it was Katrina all the way."

Acid test for Ajay, Kareena, Priyanka

All eyes are on the two films slated for release this Diwali -- GOLMAAL RETURNS and FASHION. And those associated with the two films would be hoping that the festival of lights spreads light in their lives.

GOLMAAL RETURNS is crucial for Ajay Devgan. The talented actor has had a spate of flops [CASH, RAMGOPAL VARMA KI AAG, HALLA BOL, MEHBOOBA; SUNDAY was ordinary in some circuits, while U ME AUR HUM did well at big city plexes] and GOLMAAL RETURNS could prove to be the turning point in his career.

Kareena Kapoor too is hoping to cement her status with GOLMAAL RETURNS. Her sole release this year [TASHAN] sank at the box-office and though she's riding high on popularity charts, she needs a solid Hit to stay put on the throne. Her rival and contender to the throne, Katrina Kaif, has already had a great innings.

The worst affected is Priyanka Chopra. The industry labels anyone a jinxed actor/actress if you have a spate of flops to your credit. And Priyanka has had flops, flops and more flops than any actress this year. In 2006 it was AAP KI KHATIR, in 2007 SALAAM-E-ISHQ and BIG BROTHER and in 2008, as many as four flops in a row -- LOVE STORY 2050, GOD TUSSI GREAT HO, CHAMKU and DRONA. Will FASHION change her fortunes? Or will Kangana Ranaut walk away with accolades? We will know on October 29. Till then Ms. Chopra can chew her nails in anxiety!

Ajay, Arshad, Tusshar and Shreyas turn cross-dressers in Golmaal Returns

Govinda started it; Aamir Khan and Riteish Deshmukh followed it and now its latest 'followers' are Shreyas, Tusshar, Ajay and Arshad! Before you start 'cult'ivating any sorts of ideas, let us clarify that we are indeed not talking of any cult, but the trend of 'cross dressing'.

The four leading actors of the Golmaal Returns will now bee seen cross dressing as women folks! The reason? Well, there's a scene in the film that required these guys to dress up like women only in order to gain an entry in an 'only women' mall, since the eve was Women's Day! Recalling this scene, Rohit Shetty said, "I was quite taken aback when Ajay Devgan agreed to this scene in particular. He was very gung-ho to go ahead with the scene!! In fact, none of the guys had any reservations, which made it one of the best scenes in the film."

As such, Golmaal Returns is carrying positive pre-release reports. If that was not enough, director Rohit Shetty is 'releasing' his trump cards one after the other, which only makes us further more curious to see the film. Way to go, Rohit
