Bipasha wants some action

Kudos to Bipasha Basu.

She’s trying to be different, ok? What with her taking on roles like the one in Bachna Ae Haseeno, the soon to be releasing Aa Dekhen Zara or even her forthcoming Pankh. But if variety is the spice of life, Basu wants hers to be spicier. She wants to kill some ‘Bills’ now. Nah, this has nothing to do with recession, instead it has everything to do with daredevil acts in the movies. The girl wants to do an action flick ala Kill Bill, and is desperately looking out for an action-packed flick that’s going to give her scope to flex those lovely legs of hers. Bring it on, Bips.

Aa Dekhen Zara not a copy: Neil Nitin

Is the forthcoming film Aa Dekhen Zara very similar to the British movie Freeze Frame? Incidentally, the Neil Nitin Mukesh-Bipasha Basu starrer was earlier titled Freeze. But the lead actor maintains the two are very different.

"What nonsense! I will reaffirm that Aa Dekhen Zara is an absolutely original film based on a completely original concept. It's not at all a copy of any film. There is not a single element in the film that has been copied," Neil told IANS.

Freeze Frame, a 2004 film starring Lee Evans in a lead role, was about an ultra-paranoid murder suspect who takes to filming himself round-the-clock to provide an alibi just in case he's ever accused of another crime.

Directed by Jehangir Surti, Aa Dekhen Zara tells the story of a man who gets a camera that can tell the future.

"Just because the two films have a camera in the middle of it all doesn't classify one as an original and other as a copy. You can't bring two and two together and make it 22. Once you see the film you will realise that Aa Dekhen Zara has nothing to do with Freeze Frame," Neil said.

He also explained: "Freeze was always the working title of the film and we always knew that it would change later. The kind of subject that we had in hand, the title Freeze wasn't really going with it."

So is he happy with the title Aa Dekhen Zara?

"Of course, it's the apt title. The film is about something that may happen tomorrow, courtesy the powers that the camera comes with. It's like 'let's go and see what's going to happen next'. So doesn't the phrase Aa Dekhen Zara convey the same point? The same cannot be said about the word Freeze. You can't excite people to peep into the future with that," Neil remarked.

Things you never knew about Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu is one of the model turned actresses who has succeeded in a big way in the Hindi film industry. She is a huge sex symbol, knows it and has no qualms about it. She was even voted the sexiest Asian woman in a poll taken in 2007.

She was the winner of the Ford's Godrej Cinthol Supermodel contest for 1996 and is currently one of the mainstream actresses in Bollywood.

As an actress though, Bipasha still has to prove her self though admittedly she has shown the odd spark or two when given the chance in a film like Corporate (2006) whereas her other highly regarded performances like Jism (2003) and No Entry (2005) have worked more due to her being cast correctly rather than her acting talent.

Birthday: January 7th, 1979 in New Delhi.

Debut Film: Abbas-Mustan’s Ajnabee (2001).

Major Impact: Raaz (2002).

Successful Films: Jism (2003), No Entry (2005), Corporate (2006), Omkara (2006), Dhoom 2 (2006), Race (2008), Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008).

Awards: Winner of the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for Ajnabee and nominated for the Filmfare Best Villain Award for Jism.

Forthcoming Films: Aa Dekhen Zara and Lamhaa.

Forthcomng International Film: Chaimera opposite Billy Zane.

Facts we didn’t know:

Actually wanted to be a doctor

Bipasha means deep dark desire.

Was one of the judges for the 2004 'Femina Miss India' pageant.

Once said that she wished she were a boy, then she would get those roles which bypass her due to her image.

Listed #2 by UK magazine Eastern Eye one of "Asia's Sexiest Women" (Sept/2006).

Bipasha was considered 'ugly' in her younger years due to her dark complexion.

Has two sisters named Bidisha and Bijoyeta.

The Curious Case of Bipasha Basu

Age is just a number, alright.

More for our celestial beauties. Who cares about lines and creases, lovelies... Botox hai na? Lol! But we tell ya...the Bollywood women are only getting sexier with age. And hear this one....the hottest of ‘em all, yeah Bipasha Base, of course, wants to regress in numbers. Recently while talking to ZoOm she expressed that she had no qualms about arriving at the cool number 30.

She proudly added, “I look my age, perfect. I had said that after I reach this age, I’ll start going backwards. Now that I am here, you can guess, what I will do. It’s time to go back now. Ha, ha, ha.” Regression, huh? “No, not now. From next year onwards, I will regress 100 per cent. By 2010 I’ll have a different age.” Aha! Maybe our lovely Bips is too inspired by Brad Pitt’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. We don’t blame her, but we’re curious to know if she wants to go to Hollywood, too. Out there the age really doesn’t matter, Bips. And if you ask us... we don’t want baby Bips, we just want the babe!

Our marriage depends on Ash and Bipasha: John Abraham

John Abraham says the best thing to happen to him in 2008 was his brother's marriage. And the most unusual happening in his life in 2009 could be his first stage performance, thanks to the success of his Desi girl number in Dostana.

"My brother's marriage in Romania was beautiful. Standing there at his wedding as his best man as he took the vows with his wife in a beautiful old church I felt so content. I was never happier. And I liked being the best man. Because I'm the best. People ask me where I'm going from here. And I tell them, I'm only going to get better."

2008 was a decisive year for John. He learnt to be funny. "For the first time I was really funny.Far more so than my previous comedy Garam Masala. I'd say there was a 500 percent jump between Dostana and Garam Masala.

I was completely clueless about comic timing in Garam Masala. I knew I needed to do let myself go to do comedy convincingly. In real life I'm very funny.

I needed to put some of that across on screen. Why do I have to be so serious on screen all the time? I decided to get seriously funny in Dostana."

John still remembers the moment when he discovered he could be funny. " I was doing a scene when everyone clapped. That was the first time I realized I was really funny on screen. Now when I go to events people start giggling the minute I enter.

That's the best gift I've received in 2008. The gift to make people laugh. It's just so beautiful. The other day I was at my doctor's. The assistant kept looking at me and giggling so much that she had to leave the room. That really tickled me pink.I found that really cute."

There's no marriage yet with Bipasha. "And neither are we willing to speak that openly about our relationship, " says John. "No more PDA…public display of affection. We've reached a stage in our relationship where we don't need to flaunt our relationship nor talk about with others or with each other. We're gone beyond that."

And what about his other successful jodi with Abhishek Bachchan?

John grins, "Our marriage depends on Ash and Bipasha. Jokes apart, Abhishek and I are not at all insecure about one another's camera presence. I'd love to team up with him again for Dostana Returns.

Everyone feels our jodi shouldn't end. People haven't seen male bonding like ours in years." John is happy being Bollywood's no.1 pinup boy. "I wasn't seen as cheesy.

I like being a pinup boy. God has given me the opportunity be there. I should respect that.I owe my physique to my parents wonderful genes."

John says the secret to his 'sexy' tag is his comfort level. "I'm myself wherever I go, whatever I wear. A lot of us have a benchmark for how well-toned we must have. I had a very high benchmark. I'm a leader, not a follower. Not that I am always seeing sunshine up my backside. But I'm very individualistic."

John realizes being an example for the young is a huge social responsibility.

" Karan Johar explained what he wanted from me in Dostana. He said I needed a beach body. I didn't need to look like a body builder. I think my physique is achievable.

I follow a strict diet.I eat very carefully. But when I go out I don't create a scene if the food is not cooked in olive oil. I do have normal food. And I binge on special occasions like Christmas and birthdays."

Going to the gym is a must. "It is a part of my daily routine. I work really hard at the gym. I understand my body very well. I know what to do with it to make it respond. I follow a strict gym regimen and a diet. But I believe I'm not just a body."

Regarding the risk of his followers taking short cuts to get John Abraham's body the stars says, "The use of unnatural substances is just not done to get a body. It leads to hair loss, high blood pressure, mood swings, loss of libido and enlarged glands. Stay away from short cuts."

As a brand ambassador John has his hands full. "I've a whole array of brands that have stayed with me through thick and thin. I love my association with them and they believe in me regardless of my success quotient. I believe an actor has to be exclusive in his acting assignments, events attended and endorsements."

One thing John still won't do is perform on stage. "I've a strong resistance to stage performances. Forget about dancing at weddings birthdays and functions, I don't even want to go on stage. But now that I've such great songs to perform to it might change. If I could dance the way I did in Desi girl I think I'm ready for the stage."

Why no one raised any eyebrows when Ranbir showed his bum

Bipasha brought in her birthday at an unknown destination. She was surprisingly quiet and reluctant to talk.

"It's been fantastic year for me. Personally and professionally. Family is great. Boyfriend is great.

Everything is fine. I couldn't have asked for anything more this year. I'm actually surprised the year went so well. I even got time to watch my niece and nephew grow. Yes, I've spent one more beautiful year productively.."

Suggest that she needs to have children of her own, Bipasha baulks, "No no I don't have the patience for kids. I can't bear to have my 7-year old nephew around for more than two hours.

He's a talkative brat. My 1-year niece is an a item number. She dances superbly to the worst songs. So yes another actress coming up in my film. And she's the first light-eyed fair-skinned Basu girl in the family."

What pleases her was the success John had achieved. And the label of the 'sexiest' for her man pleases her even more. "There has to be one person who's the sexiest every year. In 2007 Eastern Eye voted me the sexiest. In 2008 it's John.

If they didn't vote him the sexiest they'd look really foolish. I mean John is the hottest. No one is going to look hotter than him for a long time. And I'm not saying that because I'm in a relationship with him."

Ask her how she felt about John letting it all hang out in Dostana, and Bipasha chuckles, "Ranbir Kapoor showed his bum (in Saawariya). How come no one raised any eyebrows? It was not so drastic with John.

He has a fantastic body. If a woman on a beach is appreciated why not a man on the beach? If you are comfortable with your body and you can carry it off with grace like John did, why not?

I'm proud of what John has achieved. I've been with him from the time we shot Aetbaar and Jism. We started dating on Aetbaar."

Bipasha says she was really proud of her bikini shot in Dhoom 2.

"At no point did I look cheesy. There was no heaving thrusting. It was just a healthy shot of a woman on the beach. Incidentally I came out of the water in Jism wearing a thick white dress. Such was the impact that people think I wore a bikini."

Bipasha was caught in the 26/11 terror attack; speaks for the first time

"I feel vulnerable and helpless. That's why I haven't spoken until now," says Bipasha Basu softly.

Bipasha was returning from Film City on 26/11 when she was caught in the blast. "It happened at Vile Parle as I crossed the area. There was mayhem on the road as my staff and I sat huddled in our car wondering what to do next. Should we go forward? Or go back? I told my driver to drive in the middle of the road as fast as possible."

Three weeks down the line, and as the city nurses its wounds, Bipasha wonders what she can do to help the situation. "I've been extremely affected by 26/11. I haven't spoken to anyone about it until now. I don't know how I can ease the pain of Mumbai. Everyone wants to put forward more than just a point of view. But no one seems to know what to do. I do believe in the mass movement that Mumbai has been seeing over the last three weeks. I think people lighting candles, holding hands, showing their solidarity speaking out...it's all very effective."

Bipasha was skeptical to begin with. "I thought this movement would die down after the first few days. But now I feel it's not losing momentum. And I'm very happy about that. The media is playing a very important part in keeping the movement against terrorism alive. I must admit I thought it would be over after one Sunday. That's why I kept quiet."

But now Bipasha believes in the power of people. "I just hope it continues. If the people's voice continues to be heard whichever government comes into power will be forced to pay heed and provide us with basic security. Sure, our economy is booming and the industries are doing well. But what do we do without security in Mumbai? If the financial capital of India which generates the maximum taxes is hit, how do we sustain global confidence in our country?"

Bipasha can't believe that ten terrorists could do this to Mumbai. "What happened to Mumbai is a shame for the entire country. I went out socially for the first time this week. Life must go on. The important thing is to not forget the lessons that we've learnt from 26/11. Now I feel far less defeated far more optimistic about the future than I did the first few days after Mumbai was attacked. Mumbai won't forget. We have Zero security in the country. Otherwise how could there be continuous blasts all over the city for so many hours? And if the detonated RDX had not been discovered in time, it could have been worse."

Bipasha caught up with a film on the Mumbai blasts. "I saw Neeraj Pandey's A Wednesday after 26/11. I can't believe it's so sensitive and so prophetic. Like Naseeruddin Shah being pushed into destroying terrorism the Common Man is ready take action. A Wednesday should be a textbook on terrorism. All of us should see it and learn its lessons."

Bipasha has a ear-full of problems

Sunday was one of Bipasha's worst days ever. In the afternoon, she gave those close to her a scare when a flying pebble lodged itself straight inside her ear, almost tearing her eardrums.

Shuddering at the bizarre turns of the day Bipasha says, "We were doing a heavy-duty action scene when this pebble went right inside my ear. I had to be taken to Leelavati where it had to be sucked out. "

On the surface, this doesn't sound serious. "But it wasn't on the surface. It went right in. And I couldn't move because there was the danger that it would go in deeper and pierce the eardrums, I tried to shake it out. Then, when that didn't work, I decided to let a doctor do the needful."

Sunday being an off day no doctors were available. "The producer and director tried everything. We finally headed towards Leelavati. It was John who got an old ENT specialist friend of his to check me out. The sweet doctor was at another hospital. He drove down to Leelavati and at 4.30 pm, he finally put me out of my misery."

But it was a good three hours of trauma for Bipasha. "Who would think such a thing would happen? Normally during an action scene, you protect your knees, head, etc. But your ear? My parents were petrified. The minute the doctor said it could be taken out, I was okay. It was the most bizarre thing that ever happened to me."

That wasn't the end of Bips's Sunday trauma. "It was double jeopardy for me. When my parents, sister and I returned home we got stuck in the lift while going up to my apartment. My sister is claustrophobic. So I had to pretend to be calm for her sake until we were rescued."

Bipasha has marked Sunday 14 December as the most terrifying day of her life. " It was the most ridiculous and scary day of my life. And that too on a Sunday when I should've been relaxing."

Mujhse Shaadi karogi, Bips

That's what a cop from Srinagar asked Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu is in Kashmir shooting for Rahul Dholakia's Lamhaa but huge crowds and marriage proposals are getting in the way of her work.

A unit member from Lamhaa says, "Bipasha is one of the biggest crowd pullers we've ever seen. She's been shooting in strife-torn Srinagar for the last two weeks and wherever she goes sex appeal draws huge crowds."

Local cops and BASF personnel are providing security for the shoot, and accompany the actress and the crew everywhere. On one such occasion, one of the cops covering the shoot got so smitten by Bip's persona that he walked up to her and proposed in front of the cast and crew!"

The source adds that Bipasha was stunned. "Initially, she was flustered. Though Bipasha is used to men getting over-enthusiastic around her; normally, boyfriend John Abraham is around to handle awkward situations. This time, Bipasha had to deal with it herself. After her initial hesitation, she turned to him and politely but very firmly turned down his proposal. She told the guy that John was in her life and they both loved each other very much." The guy stood there bemused till the unit's security staff took him away.

Bipasha, who is still shooting in Srinagar, says, "The proposal is something silly. I don't really want to talk about it. I am here to work and not to get marriage proposals from cops. I wish they understood that."

Bipasha, who plays a Kashmiri girl in Lamhaa, adds, "Things are still not normal here. The Kash-miris are very sensitive and simple people and I think, because of the state of affairs for years, they take time to trust people. So we have a few problems when we go to shoot but hopefully after Wednesday's press conference, we will get their support and help during the shoot. The film is very real and my director is passionate."

Bipasha had last visited Kashmir when she was six years old but she's enjoying herself all over again. "I'm happy to be here even though it's a very sensitive area because it's such a beautiful place. But you see cops everywhere. Being an actor, it's not easy for me to go anywhere without security but that happens in all cities and Srinagar is not any different. I would like to feel it's normal."

Bipasha has a wish for the people of Kashmir. She says, "I wish them peace and prosperity that they deserve. I hope we can film here peacefully."

Bipasha spells her 'jaadu and nasha' again...!

Bipasha Basu aka Bips is all set to cast her ''jaadu and nasha'' on screen once again!

And this time it is in Sanjay Gupta's PANKH directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyay. Interestingly, Bipasha is a mere fantasy of the 20–year–old protagonist Jerry (Maradona Rebello) and does not actually exist in the film.

Explaining the complexity of the story director Chattopadhyay said, ''Bipasha is Jerry's fantasy who exists only in his mind. She is his alter–ego and loves to provoke him at a drop of her hat.'' Sudipto further explains, ''The character of Jerry is very complex. The film shows him as a famous child artiste who crossed dressed as a girl. Thus he is confused about his identity. There's a song, Jiya na Jala, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, where he fantasizes Bipasha seducing him, creating confusion in his mind about his real identity whether he is a man, woman or an eunuch. But Bipasha seduces him completely and is his sexual fantasy. Bipasha is his only solace from the ugly reality of life.''

The director reveals that he and designers Rocky S and Gavin Miguel worked hard on Bipasha's look in the film. ''We wanted Bipasha to look like a Diva a la Sophia Loren and Liza Minelli in Cabaret. Also we had lengthy discussions over the scenes. And during the shoot Bipasha got so in with her character that as if she was visible only to Jerry and completely unaware of the actor's presence on the sets. Her whole attitude and behaviour while playing the character made the entire experience very interesting.''

Bipasha Basu ko gussa kyon aata hai?

Despite giving two hits this year in form of RACE and BACHNA AE HASEENO, Bipasha Basu is rather angry with the situation that she finds herself in. Well, it has nothing to do with her professional or personal front. The situation has arisen after her agreeing to work with new and somewhat younger stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

It has led to a section of the media and the press asking her a lot of idiotic questions like how it feels to work with heroes younger than her. To those inquisitive and immature journos, the hot and sexy actress has one simple answer – Why don't they go and ask Aishwarya Rai how it feels to marry a guy younger to her by almost two years? She is however quick to add that despite the age gap, the couple remains one of the most happening and well loved and appreciated couples of Bollywood.

Bipasha also clarifies that she is older to Ranbir by just about a year or so and their vibrant chemistry in BACHNA AE HASEENO has come in for a lot of praise. And as for Nitin, he too is no kid and she is sure that her on–screen pairing with Neil Nitin Mukesh in her next venture, FREEZE, will also be appreciated by the paying audience.

I have no marraige plans with John: Bipasha Basu

When I meet her for this interview at Yashraj Studios, Bipasha Basu tells me that she is more than happy with the fact that since the time that she had made her debut in Bollywood with Abbas-Mustan's Ajnabee, she has made rapid strides as an actress in the last eight years and carved for herself a niche in the industry.

"It has been a learning process for me from Ajnabee till my latest release- Bachna Ae Haseena. I have learnt everything on the job slowly and steadily unlike then new comers today who come prepared even with their first film."

Bipasha confesses that she has matured with time and become more responsible, as an actress. "I am glad I could live to see a film of mine celebrating its golden jubilee like my second film after Ajnabee- Raaz did.

I am not bragging about it but genuinely I feel sad that today it is not possible for any actor, including John Abraham to celebrate the jubilee of his or her film, since a stage has come when a film has got to recover its cost in the first three days of its release with films having become a big business with the mushrooming of the multiplexes."

Bipasha admits that she enjoyed working with Ranbir Kapoor in Bachna Ae Haseena.

"I had a fabulous time playing the character of the Shiamak Davar dancer Radhika in Bachna Ae Haseena" Bipasha recalls the fact that while doing a dance number for the film, she even had a tear in her meniscus but continued to perform after a physiotherapist was brought to the sets and kept on stand by to attend to her.

According to her, the choreographer Ahmed Khan manipulated the steps in such a way that the weight was there only on the left leg and the best thing was that when she saw the film, it looked like she was not at all in pain when executing her steps.

Bipasha is angry when you ask her how comfortable is it to be pitted with a young guys like Ranbir Kapoor in Bachna Ae Haseena and Neil Mukesh in Freeze, who are younger than her.

"Why is an actress who has not even touched 30 labelled as a senior actress just because she is cast opposite new actors like Ranbir and Neil, who are younger to me just by two to three years?

Aishwarya Rai has married Abhishek Bachchan who is three years younger to her but has it in any way changed their relationship"?

Bipasha feels that it is unfair that there is an anti lobby for a woman when she is cast opposite a younger actor even though she does not sport wrinkles.

"Why is it that no one has any objection when an actor like Nana Patekar or for that matter Anil Kapoor is cast opposite actresses who are half their age? There was no hue and cry raised when Akshay Khanna was teamed in Dil Chahta Hai opposite Dimple who is senior to him by 25 years

. It is indeed high time that women are given a break."

Bipasha feels that she has not been given her due as an actor though she had given an award winning performance in Corporate because of limitations.

"There are many reasons why I am not offered good films. I do not belong to any particular camp like some other actresses. It is well known fact that I have a boy friend who I do not hide in my closet.

All said and done, we should not forget the fact that it is a hero oriented film industry and I cannot ask for more than what I being offered."

Bipasha is now getting opportunities to prove her mettle as an actress. Among the films that she has up her sleeves are Freeze directed by Jehangir Surti and Pankh directed by Sudipto Gupta.

While Freeze in which she has been teamed opposite Neil Mukesh is a romantic thriller, Pankh is a psychological thriller which deals with the psyche of a young boy who has to play a girl child because of his mum's pressure.

I play this interesting imaginary character of a woman who guides him through his turmoil."

Bipasha is frank enough to admit that she could identify a lot with the character of Radhika which she had essayed in Bachna Ae Haseena, because Radhika is a contemporary young independent young woman like Bipasha is.

"Your first love can end in marriage if you are lucky. Also you can fall in love any number of times till you end up meeting your ideal soul mate. It is all a question of your luck."

Bipasha does not mind admitting that love is her top priority in life even though she is a career woman. "What would you do in life if you are busy 24/7 with only your work and have no one to share your life?

However, in case you want to know when I am planning top plunge into marriage with John, let me confess that as of now there are no marriage plans for us though we do not hide the fact that we are seeing each other and are in love.

What I like the best about John and myself is that both of us do not carry the baggage of being stars. We are like-minded soul mates who do not like to hide behind sunglasses."

Bipasha Basu now joins the reality show bandwagon

After Kajol, Urmila Matondkar and Raveen Tandon, the latest Bollywood actress to work for the small screen is Bipasha Basu.

Of course, she has had her share of appearances on a few reality shows, but Bipasha now joins the reality show bandwagon as a judge for the dance-based show Chak De - Shehar Di Kudiyan Te Galli De Gunde. Sharing the bench with her is Raveena.

Our well-placed source from television says, “Karisma Kapoor was initially approached for the show, but she declined due to reasons best known to her.

So Bipasha is on board now and this has excited everyone associated with the show. Having two Bollywood actresses will add a lot of value to the programme.”

Ranbir Kapoor and I are friends

Bipasha is candid enough to admit that during 'Race' Katrina and she were barely cordial with one another.

"Some people you jell with. Others you just do your job with. Katrina is one of those cases when we were just professionals on the sets. But there was no rivalry or anything. We were both working for the same film not at cross-puposes. We were both liked in Race. Though people would like to believe otherwise, there was no negativity or animosity between us. There was no dramatic tension on the sets. We're both too sensible for that. There was just no scope for one-to-one interaction."

She has one other unfinished project Mr Fraud with Abbas-Mustan. "I'd love to complete the film. Right now I'm going through a phase when I'm searching for roles. I've no idea what I want. But yes, I'd like to an author-backed zany fun-filled film. At the same time I love multi-strarrers. They're more fun on the sets. Lots of unfulfilled wishes before I give up acting. If I don't like what's being offered I won't sign anything. For now my last film is Freeze with Neil Nitin Mukesh."

Bipasha had to miss John's brother Allan's wedding on Romania in May because she was shooting in Bangkok.

But she was very conspicuously present at the wedding reception in Mumbai where everyone commented on her bonding with her sister-in-law Anka.

"She's really sweet. John's brother and Anka were seeing each other for three years. Beyond that I wouldn't like to say anything about them. Let them lead their own lives."

John's ambitious film Aashayein is ready. Though Bipasha loves the film she won't be helping to promote it.

"Beyond buying a ticket I'm doing nothing to promote the film. That's a very good way to pitch in."

Bipasha's new ring tone is a song from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. Strange for an actor to flaunt another actor's ring tone.

"I love that song and I adore Imran. I think he's going to be a huge star. He and Ranbir Kapoor are my current favourites. In fact I told Ranbir how much I like Imran. No, he didn't mind at all. Ranbir and I are friends after Bachna Ae Haseenon."

Bollywood's dusky beauty Bipasha Basu has carved a niche for herself in Hindi cinema and says she has no intentions of going to Hollywood because filmmakers there are familiar with only one Indian actor - Aishwarya Rai.

"No filmmakers of Hollywood are willing to sign any Bollywood actor without a screen test apart from Aishwarya. They seem to know no Hindi film actors, not even Amitabh Bachchan, " Bipasha told.

"I got a chance to go there, but I found out that I will have start again from scratch like screen tests and other tantrums. They treat you like a newcomer. So I decided to stay in Mumbai and be the 'queen' here, " said the actress who was in town to promote "Bachna Ae Haseeno".

Talking about the film with newcomer Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha said she signed on because she hadn't done a romantic movie for quite some time.

"I haven't done an out-an-out romantic film for a long time so when I heard the script of this film, I found it a little fresh.

"I play Radhika, who comes all the way from Ranchi to Mumbai to become an actor. But she ends up being a member of (choreographer) Shiamak Davar's dance troupe."

Bipasha doesn't seem to mind sharing screen space with two other actresses - Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone in the film.

"I am okay with even a 10-minute role provided I get an apt character and my share of attention on screen. Anyway, if you are a Bollywood heroine, you have very limited choice. I was intelligent enough to realise it long back and hence am picking up roles that look good on-screen, " she said.

Bipasha declares war with Katrina

Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu is miffed at being tagged as the seniormost actor in "Bachna Ae Haseeno", which is releasing Friday, and says she has started feeling someone as old as legendary Amitabh Bachchan.

She co-stars with Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, who are just one film old. Minissha Lamba and Karan Kapoor are also in the movie.

"People have been calling me the seniormost actor in the film. I almost feel like Amitabh Bachchan now. The others in the film are extremely good actors and not at all inexperienced, " Bipasha told.

"They have a lot of experience and have absolute clarity in their mind on what they want to do. They are very spontaneous and we even get together very well in that way, " added Bipasha who was seen in this year's first big hit "Race".

She is also very upset with some media houses spreading stories on her and Deepika Padukone's "animosity". But she admits there is a problem with Katrina unlike Kareena, Deepika and Minissha.

She says, "We should realise that women are transparent creatures and we can't be friends with anybody. Kareena and I had a problem so many years back that today I don't even remember today what it was.

I don't know Kareena as a person but today I can say openly I don't have any problems with her. People then created an awkwardness and with constant repetition the problem got aggravated but I hold no grudges. She's a wonderful actress."

But there is a problem with Katrina Kaif with whom she acted in Race? The buzz was that they didn't talk to each other at all during the film's shooting. Bipasha admits, "Yes there is a problem between Katrina and me. We didn't speak during Race but that never stopped shooting.

If she met Kareena or Katrina at a social event would she be cordial and greet them warmly? "I could walk up to Kareena and do that; but no, I can't do that with Katrina. There is an awkwardness between Katrina and me. We don't talk to each other."

Bipasha was here with her co-stars and director Siddharth Anand to promote the film that traces the journey of a young boy from the age of 18 to 30.

In the film, Bipasha plays an aspiring actress who travels to Mumbai from Ranchi to fulfil her dreams but ends up working with Shiamak Davar's dance troupe.

"The character in the film is just like me. Radhika works and keeps her relationship going simultaneously. The role is very contemporary. She is an effortless dresser. She wears shorts and vests and uses all kinds of funky bags and accessories."

The dusky beauty says she enjoyed shooting for the film.

"I was completely pampered on the sets and have finally made two great friends in Ranbir and Siddharth. I have not spent enough time with the girls though."

"Bachna Ae Haseeno" has been extensively shot abroad at locations like Venice, Switzerland, Sydney and 15 towns of Italy.

Bipasha enjoyed her Italy stint the most.

She said: "I got a lot of compliments in Italy for the clothes I was wearing. Italian men only know how to romance. They are impeccably dressed with styled hair and they only want to marry you."

Her forthcoming movies include Bengali film "Shob Charitro Kalponik" Sanjay Gupta's "Pankh" and Jeh Surti's "Freeze". All are schedule to hit the screens this year.
