Aamir gets to see Big B's secret new look but Ranbir gets turned away

The Big B had a surprise visitor at Film City on Saturday when Aamir Khan dropped in to meet him while he was shooting for Balki's Pa with Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan.

Visitors are strictly not allowed on the sets of Paa. But who says no to Aamir?

Some awkward moments ensued when Aamir showed up. But he was soon escorted to Mr Bachchan's van where the makeup man (none other than Stephan Dupuis who did Robin Williams' makeup in Mrs Doubtfire) was at it for a good four hours.

And then Aamir certifiably became the first person outside the cast and crew of Pa to see the Big B in his startling prosthetic-induced new look.

However there was a price. Aamir was sworn to secrecy literally, that he wouldn't reveal the details of Mr Bachchan's look in Pa to the outside world.

The film's director Balki is paranoid about his leading man's looks leaking out. "We don't allow a single visitor, not even close relatives or friends of crew members on the set. Phones of course are a complete no-no.

The next thing you know the look will be splashed on the net. Aamir of course couldn't be turned down. But yes, we did swear him to complete secrecy almost like a boy scout's cross-your-heart kind of pledge.

We can't afford to take any risks. If Mr Bachchan's look leaks out the plot is out. In any case Aamir is a man who understands the exigencies of cinema. He will hardly be expected to leak out the look."

While Aamir was lucky enough to get a dekko at the Big B's unique never-before look, Sanjay Dutt and Ranbir Kapoor who dropped in on Sunday were not that lucky.

While Dutt met up with the Big B when the senior actor was not in his makeup and costumes, Ranbir had to be turned away after being appeased by looking at a photograph of the Big B's look!

Salman and I are not ganging up against Shah Rukh: Aamir Khan

Why was this copyright issue brought up at the last time?
This copyright issue has been with us for quite some time now and the producer of the film Allu Arvind was trying to resolve the issue in the court.

The information I have with me was that the hearing was over by 10th December but the order came on the 23rd December. We appealed on the same day and you won't believe how happy I am today that our film is officially releasing. The producer has deposited Rs. 5 crore in the court and there is no stay on the film.

Whoever has seen the film are saying that there is a lot of violence shown in the film.
The response I've just got before I came in to meet you all is that the film is being appreciated and the kind of advance bookings for Ghajini is the highest ever for a Hindi feature film because it's four times more than the previous films. I am happy that there is a lot of excitement surrounding the film. I am waiting for the response from the audience.

How different or difficult was it to portray a character who talks more with his eyes than his mouth?
To play the character was very difficult but I don't want to say anything about my role. Please let the audiences come out and we will talk then.

Normally a film title is based on the name of a hero or heroine. This one is based on a villain called Ghajini.
The film is called Ghajini because it's the only clue which the hero has. That's the only name he wants to find and kill.

What was your biggest inspiration while you did Ghajini?
Surya, the actor who was in the original Tamil version of the film Ghajini. He has done a fantastic job. After watching the film, I was a bit hesitant whether to do the film or not. I was in two minds. Surya convinced me and said that I was the only one who could do justice to the character. He pushed me to do Ghajini.

As you've now got a lot of hair cutting experience behind you and then the legal hassles to face, do you think aap baal baal bach gaye?
(laughs) I am feeling very relieved and nice to know that there are no more legal hassles.

What have you to say on the paintings gifted to you by Salman Khan which Asin unveiled three days back?
I am truly touched by the gestures of Salman Khan. He is such a great artist and I didn't know that till I saw his work. He has made some amazing paintings on Ghajini and I thank him for that.

How did you relate those paintings with your character in the film?
One of the portraits he has made matches my looks and the personality in the film. The second one is a much conceptualized version of the same.

Pirated cd's and dvd's will be available from day two after the film releases. Aren't you angry?
I am but what can we do about it. No one is ready to take action against this crime.

How true is it that yourself and Salman are forming a team or a camp against SRK?
There is no truth in that at all. I think, Salman, Shah Rukh and me are individuals in our own right. I have a relationship with SRK and Salman. Both are friends and there are no camps or anything like that.

Anushka and Asin, both have made their debut. Who do you think will win an award come 2009?
What awards are you talking about and to whom are you asking this question! (Laughs) Only our audiences can give awards, nobody else.

How do you intend to celebrate Christmas this year?
I am going to be at home with my family for Christmas.

With so much goodwill surrounding you in the industry and your films going to the Oscars and the BAFTA's and people talking good about you and your films, this time around, are you ready to face criticism?
I am always open for criticism.

What if you get to know that Ghajini is not up to the mark?
If people don't like any of my films then I treat it as a learning experience.

What excited you to do Ghajini?
What excited me about this film was the action, the story, the exciting screenplay and above all, the love story in the film. That really won my heart. One of the main reasons I did this film was A.R. Murugadoss.

When I met him it felt like meeting a kid who has this toy in his hand. All my expectations were fulfilled after working with him. He is so clear and understands the film so well that it's really amazing.

The Oscar committee saw Taare Zameen Par and has praised it. What have you got to say about it?
The committee liked the film a lot and the concerned person called me to congratulate me on how good Taare Zameen Par was. That doesn't mean that we are nominated because I am sure he liked other films too. But the fact that he has taken the effort to call was touching and I am very happy about it.

Aamir, I've lost a bit of my memory. Can you please tell me who was the lead actor in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi?
Why do you guys do this to me yaar. You like such things, don't you? One day because of you, I'll be beaten up badly (laughs).

Who according to you has got the best body in business in Bollywood?
In male, it has to be John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan and in females it has to be Kareena Kapoor because she is very good looking and has a great body.

What is your New Year resolution?
I haven't yet thought about it. But I will be going to the theatres to watch my film Ghajini in disguise. Where and how I am going will be kept a secret (laughs).

SRK vs. Aamir: War or Game??

The big war between Shah Rukh Khan, the undisputed King of bollywood, and Aamir the perfectionist, seems to be more part of a publicity game plan than anything else.

At least, that seemed to be the case when Shah Rukh and Aamir met accidentally at Mehboob Studios recently and chatted like long -lost friends. The eyewitnesses present on the occasion say that the King Khan and ‘Ghajini’ Khan were seen animatedly discussing their respective movies and bodybuilding fundas. Aamir was enthusiastically explaining the secret of his fabulous body shown in the promos of upcoming ‘Ghajini’, while SRK looked all ears to him.

This is so when two- three days earlier, Shah Rukh had declared himself to be the biggest brand of Bollywood. And so, he could not employ the same tactics to promote his film ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ as used by Aamir. SRK was responding to a question on Aamir Khan making the employees of multiplexes don ‘Ghajini’ haircut on the day of release of Shah Rukh’s ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’.For Gossips And Mirch Masala Log On To Bollywood Paradize

Aamir shed tears to get eight-pack abs in Ghajini

No pain, no gain. The saying couldn't be truer for Aamir Khan and the team that painstakingly sculpted those eight-pack abs, snipped up four different hairstyles, and designed the actor's varied looks in Ghajini that have become the rage among his fans.

"It took Aamir 13 months of workout, with a daily regime of about four hours, to achieve the next-to-impossible look for Ghajini," Satyajit 'Satya' Chaurasia, who trained the actor for the film, said.

"He used to get tired exercising and sometimes even used to shriek in pain and cry doing the stomach crunches, but he did not skip a single day. Every week his body used to show results and that kept him going," Chaurasia said.

Getting eight-pack abs was not a cakewalk for the perfectionist Khan. Other than rigorous workouts, he had to go through the pain of "a disciplinary regime of following a proportionate balanced diet". "He had to give up on oil, sugar, alcohol and late-night parties as I strictly asked him to sleep for eight hours at a stretch before the workouts," said Chaurasia.

Releasing on Christmas Day, Ghajini is the much-hyped Hindi remake of director AR Murugadoss's eponymous Tamil hit. The film was simultaneously released in Telugu in 2005.

While the original Ghajini featured South Indian actor Surya along with actress Asin Thottumkal, Murugadoss cast Aamir Khan to play the main lead in the Hindi remake and retained Asin as his co-star.

Apart from his physique, what has been the talk of the town is Aamir's scarred and buzzed off hair in the forthcoming film. "The buzzed hairstyle is given to suit both Aamir's character and him as a person," said hairstylist Avan Contractor. "It's basically for the second half of the film where he has a situation that requires him to shave his hair. It took us around an hour and a half to give him the look and get the scar lines on his head with thickness variations as per the director."

How Aamir tore a muscle while shooting for Ghajini!

How Aamir tore a muscle while shooting for Ghajini!

There is no denying the fact that Aamir Khan and his latest film Ghajini is the flavor of the season. Put on any T.V. channel or read any newspaper or surf through any website, chances are you will surely come across one or the other story revolving around Ghajini. Right from Aamir's cropped look to his chiseled physique to his debutante heroine Asin, everything about the film has managed to make news. Ghajini is a film that is indeed special to the actor as he has literally given it his all for this particular role. Not many know that apart from the intense and grueling workout sessions, Aamir also had two injuries whilst shooting for this film. Here's a shot by shot lowdown on how the Perfectionist Khan got injured on the sets of the film

Aamir is seen chasing the villain (Pradeep Singh Rawat) in the narrow by-lanes of Sultan Bazaar in this particular shot. The shot required the actor to chase the villain and take a running dive to bring him down.

How Aamir tore a muscle while shooting for Ghajini!

As soon as he takes the leap, Aamir feels his muscles buckled as he trips and falls on the ground with a thud but luckily for him, the floor has been covered with cloth sheets. Peter Hines, the action director had apparently laid out a layer of thermocol and Aamir felt it was the sudden softness of this very thermocol that caused him to trip and fall.

How Aamir tore a muscle while shooting for Ghajini!

While initially everyone thinks that it's just a normal fall, unit members rush to Aamir's aid when they see him writhing in pain.

How Aamir tore a muscle while shooting for Ghajini!

From the looks of it, Aamir seems to have caused a slight tear in his left hamstring and is in quite a bit of pain. Anxious crew members meanwhile look a bit worried about the actor's well-being.

How Aamir tore a muscle while shooting for Ghajini!

Aamir finds it even difficult to pick himself up and is offered a helping hand by director A.R. Murugadoss and other unit members. It's finally time for some first aid and immediate medical attention. The injury caused a delay in shooting the climax of the film and Aamir even spoke about this injury at length in his by now famous blog.

This was the second time that Aamir had injured himself (within a span of a few weeks) while shooting for Ghajini. Three weeks before this injury took place, Aamir had injured his inner right thigh when he had to pick up a burly villain and slam him against the wall. Shooting had to be stalled for a while (even then) till the actor recovered from his injury.

Surely with the number of times he has injured his body while shooting for this film and with all those grueling training schedules, Ghajini is a film that Aamir won't forget for a long time to come.

Ghajini is 3 hours Long…. will it be pruned for Multiplex purposes?

The big Christmas Release Ghajini has a longer story to tell than is considered healthy for the mutilplexes.

The film's playing time of 3 hours makes it the second-longest film of 2008 after Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa-Akbar.

And didn't that click?

"Precisely, " avers producers Madhu Mantena who also co-produced the superhit Tamil version of Ghajini with Alu Arvind. "It's not the length. It's the performance. You could have a really boring two-hour film. On the other hand you could've a really gripping film that's three hours long."

Ghajini would have been lengthier by at least 5 minutes.

"We were thinking of adding theatrical trailers to the feature. That would've added 5 minutes extra to the playing- time and good 30 minutes lost during the day at the multiplexes, " explains Madhu and refutes the charge that the film is a ultra-violent.

"It's not a tale of violence. It's a tale of retribution. And at the moment after 26/11 everyone wants answers. Films about retribution are always liked."

As for the charge that Ghajini is a remake of Christopher Nolan's Memento Madhu says, "There are other Hollywood films on same theme of short-term memory loss like Finding Nemo and 50 First Dates. So why single out Memento?"

Ah, foolproof method of avoiding copright litigation.

Was Ghajini sold for a whopping Rs. 90 crore?

So what's the price of the next biggie to hit the screens this year? I'm talking of GHAJINI. There's tremendous speculation about the price of the film, with 75, 80 and 90 crores being quoted by various sections of the media. The truth is something else.

Quiz GHAJINI producer Madhu Mantena about it and he adds promptly, "The India theatrical business has been sold for Rs. 40 cr. (to Studio 18), while the Overseas rights (sold to Big Pictures) has fetched Rs. 10 cr."

Of course, the Satellite rights (sold for Rs. 20 cr. to Studio 18), Home Video (not sold yet) and Audio rights (sold to T-Series) have also fetched handsome amounts.

Another interesting aspect about GHAJINI is that the film isn't a scene to scene copy of the original GHAJINI (Tamil).

"We've changed the last 30 minutes of the film. It's completely different from the original, " Madhu says. That increases the expectations from this Aamir Khan starrer all the more.

Aamir is Aamir, SRK is SRK: Aamir Khan

Ghajini is the most anticipated release of the year. And like everyone else, Aamir Khan is super-excited about it. He talks about the hairstyle he made famous, clears a few controversies and hopes Ghajini will be his Christmas present to movie buffs.

Are you counting the days to the release of Ghajini?

Yeah. Now that it has been completed I’m just waiting for its release. I’m thrilled that people all over India are excited about the film. It has a Tamil version too and all over audiences are eagerly awaiting its release. The cast and crew have worked very hard for this movie. My director Ossim, without knowing Hindi, had to adjust.

Your film got U/A rating. How do you feel about it?

It’s great that the censor board, having seen it, has given it this rating. Now I’m keeping my fingers crossed. The censor board has liked it, we now have to wait for the audiences’ reaction.

Tell us about the scenes that have been deleted because of the censor board.
There were only about two to three shots that were deleted. Unless you watch the movie it is worthless to say which scenes these were. Also, I really can’t disclose this type of information.

Do you really think that you can promote Ghajini through a hairstyle?

See, the idea was from the film’s publicity department. They thought it was good and it is the first time a film has been promoted this way so I am happy with the concept. The film has a lot of offer. I assure you that everyone who watches it will get something out of the experience. So I can’t say that it will become a hit or not only through the way it is being promoted.

Issues about the phone number tattooed on you in the film’s poster were in the news. It all came back to you. Tell us about it.
It was our mistake and I am sorry for what happened. I was upset about it but we did not do it intentionally.

Have you watched Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi?
No, but if I get time I will definitely watch the film.

You are apparently promoting your film in theatres that are showing Shahrukh Khan’s movie. Is it tough always competing with Khan?
My film has only two weeks to it’s release. Shahrukh is Shahrukh and Aamir is Aamir. No one should compare us to each other. We both have different styles when it comes to our work and we are both well settled in our careers. So I don’t know why the media is constantly comparing us. The promotion of my film has nothing to do with this so called Khan war.

Do you think you have worked harder than Surya (who starred in the original Ghajini) for this film?
I saw the film in its Tamil version and I liked Surya’s character. That’s why I asked Murgadoss to make a Hindi version. I was inspired by him. So I can’t say that I have worked harder than him.

This film is quite different from your recent movies. The storyline is not situational or message based.

Ya, but the film is good! When I saw the Tamil version I liked the movie so much that I called the director. It’s true, it isn’t situational or message based but again it’s a different kind of role- something I have never done before. You get to see the action hero in me this time; the one who fights gundas and all! And also, a lover boy! That’s a role I’m playing after a while. I need variation in my characters and want to do different roles with each film.

Aamir may not like his new look but ladies do

Aamir Khan's perfection ways haven't ever been hidden. And it has come to the fore yet again!

Most people especially the ladies can't stop raving about the actor's bald head-bare chest look in his upcoming flick 'Ghajini'. But apparently Aamir is not happy with his new look!

Reportedly the actor feels that he couldn't give his hundred percent and could have done a far better job with his killer street-fighter look had he got the chance to train more.

He's written in his blog, "So what do y'all think of the first look of 'Ghajini'? Actually I could have gotten into better shape. Had to stop training during the release of TZP, so, lost a month and a half there.

But it was impossible for me to train through that period. And I was also a little careless with my diet around that time Grrr... How I wish I had found the mental strength to keep at it."

This guy sure will not stop till he gets the best!

Salman liked my Ghajini look: Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan launched his much awaited film, Ghajini's first teaser promo amidst a media gathering at a suburban Mumbai multiplex. We caught up with the actor -director at the event.

The film releasing worldwide on December 25th was earlier scheduled for a Diwali release. "It was only because of my leg injury that the makers had to postpone it to the year." Aamir told us.

Aamir had not seen the promo on the big screen but had seen it many times over on the computer at the editing studio. Aamir unable to hide his excitement said, "I am dying to watch the teaser on the big screen. I want to get the same exact feel that my fans shall when they see it for the first time."

After watching it first time with the media, an excited Aamir requested the promo to be shown one more time. He then even further requested to play the digital print promo in the analog format. Why was that?

That's because Analog format is the one that is generally used in majority of cinema halls across the nation.

How did you manage to get such an awesome physique in such a less time for this role?

It wasn't an easy task. I dedicated three hours daily for it with considerable amount of time spent on doing ab crunches.

I realized sometimes our body doesn't want to do the workouts but it is our mind that should be stronger to take us to the workouts. But my day was made when Salman Khan complimented me on my physique after taking a look at my Ghajini's first look poster. He liked my look.

Why such a violent film? Don't you think your fans comprising mainly of females would find it appalling?

No I don't think so. There is violence but it is a shot in a totally different manner. One of my main reasons for doing this film is that I was getting to act in a hardcore action thriller probably for the first time in my career.

The teaser was very slickly shot but was very short Aamir.

Yes perhaps that is why it is called teaser! (Laughs)

Why hasn't A.R. Murugadoss been present at this event considering it is his debut film as a director?

He wanted to be here but he is held up in Chennai busy working on the post production and the background score of the film alongside.

Is Ghajini purposely being released on 25th December to coincide with Taare Zameen Par's release date last year?

(Laughs) No nothing like that its just co-incidental. But I hope Ghajini is as bigger a success like TZP.

Aamir left the event leaving everyone wanting for more just like Ghajini's first promo which is simply mindblowing and leaves you asking for more.

Whatever Aamir wants, Aamir gets

Aamir Khan’s Ghajini was slated for a Diwali release this year, but it had to be postponed because Aamir suffered a ligament injury. Not satisfied by this decision, Aamir wanted to create some kind of buzz for the film. Now he is releasing the promos of the film today.

Our source close to Aamir Khan said, “Originally, even when Aamir was making Taare Zameen Par, he had planned a Diwali release for Ghajini. But because of his ligament injury he had to take a break for two months as he couldn’t shoot for the stunts. So the release had to be postponed. But Aamir was hell-bent on having a Diwali release, even if it was only the promos. He decided to release at least the first moving visuals on Diwali.”

Since the past fifteen days, Aamir has been slogging to complete the promos on time. Our source continued, “Aamir has been working non-stop in order to meet the deadline. He requested A R Rahman to put aside his other commitments and come to Mumbai to work on the background score of the promos. Rahman, who generally doesn’t work outside Chennai, gave in to this last minute request and came to Mumbai. He has been working in a Mumbai lab for the past four days, only on Aamir’s insistence. Being such a perfectionist, he didn’t want to compromise on anything at all.”

Producer, Madhu Varma confirmed the report and said, “When we had started the project, it was supposed to be a Diwali 2008 release. Unfortunately, Aamir injured himself on the sets during one of the action scenes and we were not able to release the film on Diwali. Now we are releasing the first visuals of the film today.”

We couldn’t talk to Aamir for confirmation as he was tied up with the last minute colour correction of the prints.

Aamir Khan's chiseled physique in Ghajini

"One has either to feed people or amuse people in order to be remembered for life"

These are the words of a famous English philosopher, who, we are sure had just not heard of Aamir Khan! Aamir is one actor who dares to defy all of the above 'methods'. Instead, he takes his super highway and 'shocks' people at equal intervals!

Few months back, Aamir shocked the masses when he released the pics of his near bald look in Ghajini. Also, since a quite some time, there have been talks in the media that Aamir is working hard on his physique for Ghajini. And just when the 'six pack abs' fad seemed to be dying out, Aamir has unveiled his chiseled physique in Ghajini and how! People close to Aamir have been raving that he currently has the best physique in the film industry and well, we really can't deny that.

For starters, the tattoos on his body are actually 'reminders' of 'To-do' things. The reason? Well, the news is that, in Ghajini, Aamir suffers from a memory lapse every 15 minutes and in order to remember things, he tattoos reminder notes on his body!

After looking at this image, we just can't wait to see Aamir's performance in the film.
