"I like being a Pinup boy" - John Abraham

John Abraham John Abraham says the best thing to happen to him in 2008 was his brother's marriage. And the most unusual happening in his life in 2009 could be his first stage performance, thanks to the success of his 'Desi Girl' number in Dostana.

"My brother's marriage in Romania was beautiful. Standing there at his wedding as his best man as he took the vows with his wife in a beautiful old church I felt so content. I was never happier. And I liked being the best man. Because I'm the best. People ask me where I'm going from here. And I tell them, I'm only going to get better."

2008 was a decisive year for John. He learnt to be funny. "For the first time I was really funny, far more so than my previous comedy Garam Masala. I'd say there was a 500 percent jump between Dostana and Garam Masala. I was completely clueless about comic timing in Garam Masala. I knew I needed to do let myself go to do comedy convincingly. In real life, I'm very funny. I needed to put some of that across on screen. Why do I have to be so serious on screen all the time? I decided to get seriously funny in Dostana."

John still remembers the moment when he discovered he could be funny. "I was doing a scene when everyone clapped. That was the first time I realized I was really funny on screen. Now when I go to events people start giggling the minute I enter. That's the best gift I've received in 2008. The gift to make people laugh. It's just so beautiful. The other day I was at my doctor's. The assistant kept looking at me and giggling so much that she had to leave the room. That really tickled me pink. I found that really cute."

There's no marriage yet with Bipasha. "And neither are we willing to speak that openly about our relationship," says John. "No more PDA…public display of affection. We've reached a stage in our relationship where we don't need to flaunt our relationship nor talk about it with others or with each other. We're gone beyond that."

And what about his other successful jodi with Abhishek Bachchan? John grins, "Our marriage depends on Ash and Bipasha. Jokes apart, Abhishek and I are not at all insecure about one another's camera presence. I'd love to team up with him again for Dostana Returns. Everyone feels our jodi shouldn't end. People haven't seen male bonding like ours in years." John is happy being Bollywood's no.1 Pinup boy. "I wasn't seen as cheesy. I like being a Pinup boy. God has given me the opportunity to be there. I should respect that. I owe my physique to my parents' wonderful genes."

John says the secret to his 'sexy' tag is his comfort level. "I'm myself wherever I go, whatever I wear. A lot of us have a benchmark for how well-toned we must be. I had a very high benchmark. I'm a leader, not a follower. Not that I am always seeing sunshine up my backside. But I'm very individualistic."

John Abraham John realizes being an example for the young is a huge social responsibility. "Karan Johar explained what he wanted from me in Dostana. He said I needed a beach body. I didn't need to look like a body builder. I think my physique is achievable. I follow a strict diet. I eat very carefully. But when I go out, I don't create a scene if the food is not cooked in olive oil. I do have normal food. And I binge on special occasions like Christmas and birthdays."

Going to the gym is a must. "It is a part of my daily routine. I work really hard at the gym. I understand my body very well. I know what to do with it to make it respond. I follow a strict gym regimen and a diet. But I believe I'm not just a body."

Regarding the risk of his followers taking short cuts to get John Abraham's body, the stars says, "The use of unnatural substances is just not done to get a body. It leads to hair loss, high blood pressure, mood swings, loss of libido and enlarged glands. Stay away from short cuts."

As a brand ambassador, John has his hands full. "I've a whole array of brands that have stayed with me through thick and thin. I love my association with them and they believe in me regardless of my success quotient. I believe an actor has to be exclusive in his acting assignments, events attended and endorsements."

One thing John still won't do is perform on stage. "I've a strong resistance to stage performances. Forget about dancing at weddings birthdays and functions, I don't even want to go on stage. But now that I've such great songs to perform to it might change. If I could dance the way I did in 'Desi Girl' I think I'm ready for the stage."

Karan Johar joins hands with UTV

Surprising many within the industry, director Karan Johar has decided to go ahead with the distribution of his next two movies with UTV Motion Pictures. This deal will give Ronnie Screwvala and his company exclusive worldwide distribution rights for Karan's next two productions.

WHY this has surprised many is because till date Karan has either distributed films himself or gone with Yash Raj Films for the distribution of his films. But this deal with UTV gives the latter theatrical, home video, overseas and satellite distribution rights.

And while the two films - Wake Up Sid and Rensil D’silva’s untitled film – have been handed to UTV for release, interestingly Karan’s own directorial venture My Name is Khan still remains with Johar and Dharma Productions.

Speaking about the deal, Karan says that the deal is a natural choice for him. His (Ronnie Screwvala) passion and sensibility towards understanding a cinema is exceptional and I’m looking forward to working with UTV Motion Pictures,” says Karan, “I’ve known and been in touch with Ronnie for a long time now and I am glad that finally we are getting a chance to work together.”

Wake Up Sid is directed by Ayaan Mukerji and stars Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma. Rensil D’silva’s film stars Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi.

UTV on the other hand is in desperate need of a hit film. While their small budget independent films under their Spotboy Entertainment banner have done reasonably well, barring Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion – which they co-produced – UTV has found it tough to make money at the box office. And therefore it makes business sense for Ronnie to sign up with someone like Karan Johar who is known to rake in the big bucks internationally as well.

“Karan has a brilliant slate of films to his credit. He brings a tremendous entertainment quotient to his films coupled with immense understanding of the pulse of the audience. His films are the most awaited amongst audiences across the country. We are thrilled to start what we hope is the beginning of a long relationship with Dharma Productions,” said UTV CEO Ronnie Screwvala on the deal.

Industry insiders are also saying that things are not very good between Yash Raj Films and Shah Rukh Khan. And it is this crack in the infamous SRK-YRF friendship along with rising budgets of Karan’s films that has resulted in Karan walking in the other direction.

Salman Khan turns down a Sooraj Barjatya film

Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya together have created the now famous character of Prem in films like Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.

Sooraj’s last hit film Vivaah starred Shahid Kapur.
But this time round he approached Salman with the script for his next film – a sweet family drama in typical Rajshri style.

Salman sat through the story session, but felt that the lead of the film had to be someone younger and that he was not meant for the role.

However, Sooraj told him that he wanted Salman to do one of the support roles.

A source says, “Salman was not impressed with the role offered to him and said no straight off.

He also told Sooraj that come what may in his career, he would never do silly character roles. He feels that if he did so, he would be betraying his fans as they still want him to do the main leads.”

Shahid uses the ‘F’ word

His role in Kaminey requires Shahid to say ‘f’ instead of ‘s’.

So Shahid took lessons to lisp and stammer from leading ENT surgeon Dr Prabodh Karnik, so that he could play the character convincingly.

Vishal Bhardwaj, director of Kaminey, wanted to leave no stone unturned to present reality.

So he took Shahid to Dr Karnik.

Shahid plays a double role in the film - Charlie lisps and Guddu stammers.

Vishal confirmed the news about meeting Dr Karnik and said that it was a good learning experience that would bring the film closer to reality.

Shahid said that after meeting Dr Karnik, he got a better understanding of speech impairments and this would definitely help him keep his character real.

Meanwhile, Shahid Kapur's Yamaha MT 01 bike was the focus of all attention at Yash Raj Studios.

The fan brigade consisted of Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. "An excited Abhishek Bachchan even called John to have a dekko at the bike.

John was shooting a promo for New York in the same building and rushed down to see it," said a witness.

John has always been a bike freak.

"John loved the mean machine and kept staring at it. The bike had become a hot topic of discussion among the boys.

The guys took turns to feel and sit on the bike.

Vidya Balan goes Hot: Does intimate scenes

Vidya Balan has given some really intimate scenes in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Ishkiyan. All her hot scenes in the film are with Arshad Warsi. Vidya play’s a slightly grey character in the film who fools the uncle-nephew jodi of Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi.

A unit source reveals, “She indeed has quiet a few hot love making sequences in the film but the scenes have been aesthetically shot.

Vishal Bharadwaj is simply too glad with the way the actress has performed her act in the film without any inhibitions.

But this is not the first time that the actress has done such scenes. She had been sensuous in her debut venture Parineeta earlier as well and in Heyy Babyy too with Akshay Kumar.”

In Ishkiyan Vidya is playing a very complex character and will be seen speaking the U.P dialect which is very akin to Vishal Bharadwaj’s movies. She also has a very different look in the film. She will certainly take away accolades after the release reveal unit sources.

Vidya’s career too seems to be on an all new high now. It has been heard that the actress has also been signed for Nikhil Advani's Chandbhai opposite Akshay Kumar.

The film is a tough love story set in a juvenile detention facility. She will also be seen working with two legendary actors - Naseeruddin Shah in Ishqiyan and Amitabh Bachchan in Balki’s Pa and Sanjay Leela’s Chenab Gandhi.

Ranbir refuses to make any commitment to Deepika

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have become fed up of all the public display of affection it seems.

After a lot of buzz surrounding their affair, break up and patch up etc, the latest is that the young couple has decided that they are too young to get into any sort of commitments and they should concentrate in their flourishing careers instead.

Deepika is undeterred by the poor response to ‘Chandni Chowk to China’ and is now busy with Saif Ali Khan’s home production and is working for his untitled film, directed by ‘Jab We Met’ director Imtiaz Ali.

Ranbir is busy with Rajkumar Santoshi’s ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahini’ opposite Katrina Kaif with whom he was reported to have been close to for a while.

Both of them feel that it’s time for only work comes first and nothing else. Ranbir had recently said that he would choose a good film over their relationship and Deepika is now agreeing with him.

She said that she would do the same and added, "I think we are both young and our careers are important to us, so what Ranbir said was absolutely right."

Well, so we shouldn’t be caught by surprise if they suddenly announce their break up soon. After all, work is all that matters for them, right?

We are spoofing all the films from Sholay to Lagaan: Soha Ali Khan

Soha Ali Khan is someone whose mere smile electrifies the entire silver screen. Even though she has been around in the tinsel town for sometime now, she making her way to the place where she rightly belongs- the Top! Soha will now be seen in the comedy Dhoondte Reh Jaoge in which she is paired opposite Kunal Khemu. The film also stars Sonu Sood, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever and Asrani.

We caught up with the young actress for an exclusive interview where she spoke about doing "quality" films, the challenge of doing comedy and her love for journalism.

To start with, these days, the silver screen is seeing very less of the golden actress called Soha Ali Khan. Is that a conscious decision?
Hey! That's so untrue. I had two releases in the last year and have four lined up for this year. The idea is not to do too many films. I would prefer doing quality films over the quantity ones! You don't get the right kind of script pretty often.

You don't get the right kind of script that convinces you totally. I would much rather watch a film or maybe hang out with my friends, instead of doing a film in which I am not 100% involved in.

How are you feeling now? Nervous or excited with DRJ's release being just around the corner?
For any actor, it's pretty natural to be both excited and nervous, so am I! I try not to think about it. There's no point worrying too much.

You don't want to put your heart in the line as you will only land up being dejected, if the audiences do not reject the film. For any film that I do, I give my 100% and after that, I do not think about the film. But I will want to know what the audiences think of the film!

What's your role in the film?
I am playing someone very unlikely in the film. And I don't think that I have ever played a character is called Neha Chattopadhyay, someone who is so far removed from my personality.

My character is that of someone who is into street-theater and who stays in a chawl with her mama. Every time she gets nervous, she breaks into Bengali as she cannot speak Hindi that fluently.

How much of your role in the film do you identify with?
The dream that I share with her is that of becoming a Hindi film heroine. But the kind of film that they go on to make is something that I have never been a part of.

What's the film all about and what's your role in the film?
The film is more of a spoof, whereby we are spoofing from all the films from Sholay to Lagaan. With due respect to everyone, you can see me playing Basanti of Sholay, Simran of DDLJ, Ameesha of Gadar to name a few!

A very impromptu question. While 'playing' the roles all the leading heroines in one film, did you, at any point feel a particular role should have been offered to you?
Actually speaking, these roles are absolute landmark roles and have been such brilliantly played by the respective actors that I just cannot imagine the role of Simran being played by anyone but Kajol, Basanti by Hemaji, so on and so forth!

Maybe when we interview any of the Gen-Next actress a few years down, your fans must be hoping that they will say that DRJ was a landmark film and that Soha's role was something that cannot be imagined being played by someone else! What say?
Thank you sooooo much for the compliment!

Your last film Dil Kabaddi was a comedy whereby you shared the screen space with Payal Rohatagi and in Dhoondte Reh Jaoge, its Deepal Shaw. Does that mean that you are open for multi-heroine roles?
In Dil Kabaddi, it was an ensemble cast, were various characters were etched out for those roles. I like mine amongst all of them. As far as Dhoondte Reh Jaoge, it has a number of characters. I was initially a bit apprehensive about doing this role.

But it was a kind of film which I felt that I might land up regretting of not having done it. The good thing about this film is that though they have multiple characters, I am the only girl. While all the prime characters like Pareshji, Kunal Khemu, and Sonu Sood have well-etched roles, I am the only girl amongst the entire lot.

There must have been lots of memorable moments during the shoot of the film? Pease share some with us.
Since I haven't done any comedy before, this film had its memorable moments in terms of each and every frame.

Furthering what you just said, since you have worked on both the genres (comedy and serious roles), which of the two do you find tougher?
You get a lot of dialogues when you are doing a comedy. It also requires a certain amount of comic timing. For me, it's more challenging than doing serious roles. Because, when you are doing serious roles, you tend to get lots of help in terms of lighting, music etc...

What were the locations wherein the film was shot?
The chawl that we shot in Worli is a natural chawl in itself. There are lots of Mumbai places whereby we have shot the film. All in all, it's all a Mumbai-centric film! We have shot a few songs in Malaysia.

How was it working with Kunal Khemu as your co-star?
He is a seasoned actor. He, alongwith Paresh Rawal, has done theatre before. I really don't know if they have worked together before this film. Both of them form the highlight of the film. The film will work because of Kunal and Paresh. They, according to me are the lead pair of the film!

At one point, you wanted to be a journalist. So, what's it about the journo's job that you like the most?
I feel that my skills lie in my research. I enjoy reading the papers. I think that journalism is a great profession.

What will form your next set of films?
There's 99 which is an action comedy, followed by Tera Kya Hoga Johnny and Kunal Deshmukh's Tum Mile with Emraan Hashmi.

Lastly, can you give us three reasons for the cine goers to watch DRJ?
There's the storyline, great performances and superb comedy! One needs to just go and watch this film for sure.

I am very comfortable with my body: Neetu Chandra

Hers has been almost a dream run in Bollywood, having worked with filmmakers like Priyadarshan and Madhur Bhandarkar in a short span since her debut in ‘Garam Masala’ a few years ago.

In just four years since her debut in Bollywood, Neetu Chandra has done variety of roles that range from a glamorous air hostess in ‘Garam Masala’ to the ‘’closer-to-life’’ street vendor in ‘Traffic Signal’ to a comic role as police officer in ‘One Two Three’ to the consort of the ‘Super chor’ Bunty in ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’.

‘’All the roles I have done over the last four years have been different from each other. For example, my role in ‘One Two Three’ was different from that in ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’, which in turn was different from that in ‘Traffic Signal’.

While ‘Garam Masala’ and ‘One Two Three’ had me in hardcore glamorous roles, ‘Traffic Signal’ and ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ had me in simpler roles,’’ Neetu Chandra, who will now be seen in the horror film ’13 B’ in the role of a housewife addicted to television said.

Her real life portrayals in ‘Traffic Signal’ and ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ may have established her as an actress adept at playing ‘’closer-to-life’’ roles but the actress insisted that it is the script of a film rather than her role in it that governs her choice of these roles.

‘’I don’t choose films according to my roles. Rather, I chose films according to the script. As long as the script is nice and the story is good, I do not care what my role is and whether it is glamorous or non-glamorous.

x Infact, I do not understand terms like Glamorous and non glamorous. If a script requires me to look glamorous, I will look glamorous.

Conversely, if a role requires me to look simpler, I will do so. I am very comfortable with my body and will wear whatever look the script demands,’’Neetu Chandra told in an interview on the eve of the film’s release.

Talking about her role in her next film ’13 B’, where she is features opposite South Indian actor Madhavan, Neetu said,’’I play a housewife. She is a very coy, shy kind of female, who is stuck to television like any other female in the house and how she realises that the television set has become a danger to her family.’’

She said though the role was closer to real life, it had elements of both glamour as well as real life.

Considering that she hails from a middle class family in Haryana, the going seems to have been good for Neetu in Bollywood.

‘’Things have been really nice for me in Bollywood. I was doing modelling when I was picked up for ‘Garam Masala’. Then ‘Traffic Signal’ happened.

I am extremely satisfied at the progress of my career from ‘Garam Masala’ to ’13 B’. My film ‘Traffic Signal’ got a National award, while in ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Lucky Oye’ I was nominated in the Best Actress category in the Stardust awards.

And, I am on the front page of Stardust this issue. Also, I am getting offers for good films. What more could I have asked for,’’ she said.

As an actor, Neetu said she drew inspiration from Akshay Kumar, Smita Patil and Madhuri Dixit.

‘’For me Akshay Kumar, who I worked with in my first film ‘Garam masala’ is quite and inspiration especially in terms of his sense of discipline. Being a sportperson like him, I see that he is very hardworking.

Infact, the kind of discipline he follows is amazing. I that sense, I feel that Akshay sir is very very inspiring and I look up to him.

Among actresses, I look up to Madhusi Dixit and late Smita Patil because I want to do the kind of roles these actresses did,’’Neetu said.

Her forthcoming films include a comedy ‘Khusar Prasad Ka Bhoot’, a film called ‘Mumbai Cutting’, which is about a serious issue. Then there is a film with Vipul Shah and another with Raj Kanwar.

Besides, I am also doing a film with Jagmohan Mundhra.

STYLE: Clutch me if you can!

The film industry is a good place, they say, to look for the latest fashion trends. And what do you know. Everyone, just everyone, is clutching a, well, clutch purse! They are a convenient option, really. Who wants to lug around a bag with those delicate Cavallis, Emilio Puccis and Missonis?

These little beauties are basically designed to be ‘clutched’ in the hand. Some even come with straps to be slung around the shoulder. They are versatile, too, going well on everything from jeans, formal and Indian outfits.

As a fashion accessory, clutch purses are known to be evening bags. In the industry though, people prefer it 24x7. Here are some we spotted recently.

Purple perfect!
This shiny, sleek clutch is just the perfect size and makes a very pretty accessory. It adds a dash of colour that brightens up the chic black and white outfit. Sonam Kapoor knows her style!

Sleek, smart and safe!
The uber classy and sophisticated Karisma Kapoor plays it safe with a sleek black clutch, in sync with her dress and shoes.

White magic? Not really!
Never mind the colour and butterflies. But Farah Khan’s kurta could have been complemented better with a more ethnic clutch. It’s the large, distracting NY logo that takes it all out of sync.

Talk about subtlety
This clutch is broader than Shilpa Shetty’s waist! Kudos to her for attempting to start a new trend, but an unwieldy clutch can never a fashion statement make. Worse, an unwieldy, empty-looking folder-clutch. Uh-huh. Not appealing at all.

Mirror mirror
Now this is a very handy clutch. For that quick touchup, all you need to do is hold up the bag and the mirrors will do the work for you. The clutch has a Boho feel to it and goes well with Ameesha Patel’s bright dress.

Amitabh Bachchan’s new look!

As always, it is impeccably stylish

Amitabh Bachchan is known for his impeccable sense of style. The actor wears his custom-made suits with as much panache and élan as he does his linen trousers and shirts. But on the morning of March 6, Big B fans were in for a treat.

Kicking off the International Indian Film Academy voting weekend, Bachchan arrived in cream linen trousers and a black jacket. Shorn off his signature French beard!

“This is for my role in my film PAA, for which I have begun filming. The film required me to take it off,” informs Amitabh, “But don’t worry, it will be back. I mean the beard!”

To a remark that he looked younger without the beard, he replied, “I am 67 years old and have been working for 40 years now. Ab kya young lagna (now looking young is immaterial)!”

Known to be punctual and, more often than not, early for appearances, Bachchan arrived over an hour late, wearing dark glasses. “I have been filming and, last night, we finished very late. We worked till 4 am. I am very sorry for being late.”

Paparazzi chase Salman's auto!

The media loves Salman Khan. Where he goes, tamasha is bound to follow. And Sallu didn’t fail to disappoint.

He came to the sangeet in a blue tee and jeans. When he stepped out at 4.30 am in a white shirt and high spirits, the press and TV cameramen knew big things were about to happen. The action began when a journo unwisely asked if Sallu had got the chance at the sangeet to patch-up with SRK. Visibly irritated by the question, Salman looked like he might pounce on the journo... but instead looked for his car. Nowhere in sight! Any other Bollywood biggie might have gone back inside, called for the car, and then given the driver hell.

Not Salman, he does things differently. Hailing a passing auto, he jumped in beside the driver and asked the astonished man to speed away. The media gave chase. Somewhere along the route, taking a leaf out of Michael Schumacher’s book, Salman asked the autowallah to surrender the controls to him. And he zipped off into the night. The story ended with his car being spotted and Salman Khan giving the autowallah a generous baksheesh. Amrita Arora and Shakeel Ladak, of course, missed the scene... but it provided the extra show to their sangeet on Thursday night.

Ash is upset with Priyanka

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is upset with Priyanka Chopra for calling her beautiful but not mentioning her acting talent when she received the Filmfare best actress award.

While Priyanka Chopra is riding high after winning the Filmfare best actress award for her role in Fashion, things are not hunky dory for her on another level. Known for her usually restrained image and ever so politically correct statements, Priyanka rubbed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan the wrong way while giving her thank you speech after she received the award. This incident follows Priyanka's fallout with once-upon-a-time good friend Abhishek Bachchan who too is upset with Priyanka for wanting to groove to the same song ('Ma da laadla' from Dostana) which he had selected for the same function.

Priyanka said that she was very happy to be nominated (Fashion, Dostana) among the likes of the beautiful Aishwarya Rai (Jodhaa Akbar) and the talented Kajol (U, Me Aur Hum). Priyanka's euphoric statement however hasn't gone down well with Aishwarya.

Aishwarya is annoyed that Priyanka called her beautiful but said nothing about her acting talent.

An actor who was present at the function said, on condition of anonymity, "Priyanka should have chosen her words carefully. How can Priyanka sideline Aishwarya's acting abilities?"

"Aishwarya rarely loses her cool. But this time, she did. She is mighty upset with Priyanka," added our source.

We sent three text messages to Aishwarya but she did not reply. Priyanka too did not reply to our text messages.

The whole dance crew was taken to the basement and there was a huge power cut that took place which lasted around an hour. It’s so scary Sophie couldn’t believe it.

I'd like to have Freida Pinto on the hot seatBy Hollyscoop The child actors from Slumdog Millionaire are not your typical movie stars. They didn't gr

The child actors from Slumdog Millionaire are not your typical movie stars. They didn't grow up in Bel Air, they don't attend posh private schools, nor do they hang out with other celebrities.

They grew up in the slums of Mumbai, and one lucky break got them a trip to Los Angeles, a walk down the most glamorous red carpet, and a trip to Disneyland.

After a whirlwind trip to Hollywood, 10 year-old Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and his nine-year-old co-star Rubina Ali returned to Mumbai as movie stars only to be depressed about their current living situations.

"I don't want to sleep on the floor anymore. I want a proper bed and live where the air does not smell of poo. I have seen what it is like in America. Here, there is garbage everywhere, people get angry, swear and shout. I have realized how bad life is here. I just want to get out, " Rubina declared when she returned.

Hollyscoop caught up with Anil Kapoor from the Oscar winning movie to get his thoughts on the how the success of the movie will impact the young stars.

"I spoke to all the parents over there, I told them they shouldn't focus on getting the children more roles, but focus on education instead, " Kapoor told Hollyscoop during an exclusive one-on-one interview at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

"If they do more and more films as child actors, they become slightly lost, " adding that he "only did one film as a child, but fortunately it didn't get released."

But he confessed that he wouldn't be surprised if after they finish their education, they make a return to the big screen.

"I wouldn't be surprised if during the 100th anniversary of the Oscars, they pick up an award for Best Actor or Best Actress, " Anil told Hollyscoop.

Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, Rubiana Ali In response to the reports that Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, who plays the youngest version of the main character's brother Salim, got slapped by his father for being "too jet lagged" to work, Anil said, "Sometimes there is a lot of speculation and sometimes there are things that are really blown out of proportion.

I don't believe everything I read, but I'll see it with my own eyes soon. I'm going to send a good press release (to the States) to clear things up."

While the child stars are having a difficult time readjusting to life in the slums, government aides have stepped in to provide proper housing for Mumbai's newest stars.

"I think the government has really given them a lot of respect, love and recognition, " said Kapoor. "Two of them are getting new houses. Everyone is getting a lot as far as education is concerned too. They'll be well taken care of, " Anil assures Slumdog fans, "trust me!"

While Anil doesn't believe that Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and Rubina Ali should go back into acting, he would love to see them make a cameo on Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Slumdog edition.

Ideally, he insists, he would want "Frieda Pinto in the hot seat, " and he thinks she should be able to "call the kids" as her lifeline. "I think it'll be more exciting, " he joked. "Don't you think?"

Ash: I'm the most bankable star abroad? Wow!!!

Forbes magazine has just voted Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan the most bankable star from Bollywood in Hollywood.

And this, just when the desi media has been carping about her abbreviated role in her latest Hollywood release Pink Panther 2.

Aishwarya has been voted among Forbes’ “Most Valuable Actors” ahead of Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Irrfan Khan.

And now there’re a number of hush-hush international projects on the anvil for Aishwarya including, apparently, one with actress and chat-show hostess Tyra Banks and a project with Will Smith who has been craving to cast Ash right from the time he offered her Hitch and the recent 7 Pounds. The long-pending project Chaos with Mery Streep is also likely to be revived shortly.

Reacting to this flurry of international activity in her choc-a-block schedule Aishwarya said from Kolkata, “Wow! Me the most bankable Bollywood star in Hollywood? Thank you! I must confess that any acknowledgement of hard work makes me feel content. In all humility I want to thank all those who feel I ‘m bankable.”

Sushmita-Randeep kiss creates a furore

Sushmita Sen is not at all happy these days. It is because of her new movie ‘Karma aur Holi’ in whichshe is playing the lead along with Randeep Hooda.

The issue is that Sushmita is not happy with a kissing scene with her one time boyfriend Randeep and is cribbing that the producers are using this footage to gain in more publicity.

As reported by a leading tabloid, Sushmita said, “My problem is that the makers of Karma aur Holi are promoting the film by sending out sleazy stories. This is not done. This is not the way to promote a film. These obnoxious strategies of promoting a film are simply unethical”.

We tried getting in touch with Sushmita but she remained unavailable for any comments. We did get in touch with Randeep Hooda who had once got the opportunity to date the beauty queen.

He stormed in saying, “I think one should just do their job. Everyone was doing their job. There are a lot of actors involved, a lot of technicians, production people, directors, producers involved in the film. By just going to the press and lashing out statements is a very unethical thing on Sushmita’s part”.

When asked about the fuss she is making to remove the much-hyped kissing scene between her and Randeep, he said, “I don’t know anything about it so I think it is logical for me not to even comment on it”.

Seems like Sushmita is having a hard way in this matter, with lashing out everything openly to the press, we wonder what she really wants. We just hope she gets justice to it.

Wife slaps serial-kisser Emraan Hashmi for kissing others!

This is not just a sensational headline, written to grab the maximum eyeballs, nor are we resorting to yellow journalism. This is a plain fact, that has been accepted by none other than the very much in love couple Emraan Hashmi and wife Parveen Hashmi.

In an exclusive joint interview, given to a reputed International magazine, the couple comes out in the open about their beautiful relationship. They talked about almost everything, right from their courtship days, how Emraan, true to his intense on-screen lover image, stalked and wooed Parveen and kept persuading her till she finally said "yes", right down to their life after marriage!

Well, we all know that Parveen is quite a possessive wife and Emraan has said many times that he will stop kissing as he has a fight with his wife every time he is required to do a kissing scene.

But what came as a shock was the revelation that Parveen has slapped (!) Emraan quite a few times for kissing on-screen, during trial shows of the concerned movies. And this was revealed in a very light hearted manner by the couple.

Though on many previous occasions Emraan had given statements that he would stop kissing on-screen after marriage, but he could not stick to his promise, so strong was his image. In fact quite a few films in which Emraan did not kiss failed to set the cash registers ringing.

Of course, it is another matter that the films were too bad, but nonetheless the serial kisser is now riding high (despite a lovingly furious wife!) with back to back success via Jannat and Raaz-The Mystery Continues...

I do my homework on the sets and take naps between shots: Sparsh

She's Sparsh known as Ichcha in the soap Uttaran which is running on COLORS.. The little dreamer from the slums who tried hard to be happy with the hand-me-down dresses and dolls of the rick and priviled, but hates her second -hand existence.

All of 8, this amazimg bundle of talent is a joy to behold.

Ask her where she learnt acting and Sparsh confidently replies, "Kahin bhi nahin. I just know what to do and say. I think about the little girl Ichcha who has none of the things that I do. I put myself in her place and then I just do what I have to. Yes I do feel sorry for Ichcha. But she's got a loving Mama, just like me."

Such gravity and wisdom at 8! Doesn't Sparsh miss the normal little-girl's existence.

"Why should I?" she shoots back. "I do everything I want to. I go to school in the mornings. Then shooting is in the afternoon. I go to sleep in the car and wake up only when I reach my shooting, "says this ordinary middleclass girl from Ulhasnagar who has suddenly been catapulted to popularity.

"Do you really like my performance?" she questions. "I've done another serial Mera Sasural (on Sahara) where I played the heroine's bachpan ka role, and also another film (a music video of nursery rhymes) and I play Suniel Shetty uncle's daughter in the film Red Alert."

Now of course it's the daily Uttaran on Colors all the way for little Sparsh. And she seems to be enjoying every bit of the attention. "My friends in school call me Ichcha or Hichki (her two names in the serial).

Between school and the sets, I don't get tired because there's enough time to do everything. I do my homework on the sets and take naps between shots. I eat and do masti. In –between shots I play with Tapasya (real name Ishita, the girl who plays her friend)."

Mother Sarita adds, "I really don't know where she got the talent from. Because we don't have any actors in our family."

At 5, I made my singing debut with none other than Mohammed Rafi: Sagarika Mukherjee

She sashayed onto the musical scene when the album culture was just beginning to strike root in the country. But Sagarika left an impression. So much so 'Q-Funk, ' 'Naujawan, ' 'Roop Inka Mastana' and 'Maa' are remembered by music buffs even years after their release.

Sagarika, the older sister of Bollywood singing sensation Shaan, took a break from the industry for a few years post marriage. Now on a comeback trail, the singer was in the city recently to sing a solo for composer Sunny Viswanath.

Excerpts from an interview:

On staging a comeback
After marriage, I wanted to take a break for a year but it went on to be five years! In the meanwhile, I raised my boys - Michel and Joshua - and transformed myself into a restaurateur. My husband and I set up the Olive Bar and Kitchen chain of restaurants.

Now it's time to come out of the bawarchi image! We moved to London some time ago. A chance meeting with UK based percussionist Talvin Singh was an eye-opener. Together we did an 18 city tour of Europe and I sang mild classical numbers. The response and encouragement I got was tremendous.

My singing debut
That happened when I was five and with none other than Mohammed Rafi! Mummy picked me up from school and we went straight to the recording studio. Singing the track, putting on the headphones...it was all new to me. It was only years later that I realised that I had shared the microphone with a legend.

The Bollywood encounter
As a child artist, I sang in nearly 15 films and did a number of jingles. As a teenager, I lent my voice to a couple of Hindi films. But I've not had many good experiences with the composers in the industry. Being a girl, it was tough to survive there.

If a composer gave me a song, it was as if he was doing me a great favour than regarding it as a professional exchange. My tastes didn't match Bollywood's; so I moved away.

Turning point
When Atul Chiramani of Magna Sounds invited me to do an album song, little did I know what was in store. I took Shaan along and introduced him to Atul and composer Biddu. Thus 'Naujawan' happened. It was a hit and our lives changed. Q-Funk came next and sold a million copies. 'Disco Deewane' 'Fifty Fifty' and 'Maa' were also lapped up by the public.

I needed a break
I was growing a little tired of stage shows, fan following and recognition and wanted time to discover my space as a singer. In the meanwhile, I got married to Martin Da Costa (he runs an event management company in Mumbai), had kids and got into the hospitality industry.

The shift to London brought my hibernating music career back to life. Now I'm experimenting with different styles of music and listening to gifted singers from all over the globe.

It was only after the European tour that I realised that I had been leading a frog-in-the-well existence! Am happy to discover a soul enriching world outside. In fact, when we shifted base to London, I was in search of this feeling.

Now that my younger one has learnt to speak and can voice his needs, I am ready to take a plunge into music.

My brother, Shaan
Being the older one, I was always protective of him. I remember the days when he used to imitate Kishore Kumar's voice before he finally developed his own style.

Today, when I see young singers aspiring to be Shaan, I feel so happy for that little boy who cried at a recording 'coz his voice didn't gel with the music.

Music is in our blood (Shaan and Sagarika are the children of the late Bengali composer Manash Mukherjee). He has lived true to dad's advice "Never be satisfied with mediocrity." Am happy for his success.

The jodi again?
We'd love to work together again. The last time we came together was for 'Tomor Aakash' (2004), a Bengali album in which we brought out dad's unreleased songs.

London dreams
Music is big time out there. It's an exciting city. Thanks to the acceptance and respect they get in London, many Indian classical artists have made the city their home. It's an amalgam of every culture you can think of. I love being there.

My hobbies
I finally became net savvy! It's amazing to have the whole world on a tiny screen. I thoroughly enjoy surfing the net. We often frequent restaurants, especially Polish and Japanese. It's fun taking the kids to cultural shows and children's theatres. Now that I'm trying to build a career in music in London with a Brazilian band, am into learning Portuguese and Brazilian.

Looking forward to
Making quality music in collaboration with talented musicians from all over the world. I preferred melodies but now I am into experimenting with different moods and textures. Some time later, I'll delve into devotional music but not the typical style we are used to listening to. It'll be something different.

The minute I set my eyes on Shakeel I knew he was THE man I'll marry: Amrita Arora

It’s arguably the most important day of her life. And Amrita Arora is naturally excited as she prepares for her Christian wedding to beau Shakeel Ladak. The nikaah is two days later.

“We were supposed to have a church wedding today, ” Amrita chatters excitedly as the makeup lady does her most challenging job ever for the actress. “But there were some security hassles. So we quickly moved the venue to Olive. But no hassles because we always had a standby ready. ”

Amrita gives full credit to her sister Malaika for all the arrangements.

“I know nothing about the wedding arrangement. It was all done by my sister who put her own life on hold to look into my wedding details. I’m blessed to have such a supportive family.

I’ve my wedding today (Wednesday 4 March) and I’m talking to you while my folks are taking care of everything, ” the bride got emotional as her mother reminded her she needed to hurry up with the dressing up. But Amrita decided to get introspective.

“You know, the minute I set my eyes on Shakeel I knew he was the man I wanted to marry. It’s like a karmic connection. I just felt it. I had never felt this before. Shakeel is everything that I want my husband to be. And I’m determined to make our marriage work. I’ll do whatever it takes.”

Ask her about the honeymoon which will follow the sangeet on Thursday and the nikaah on Friday and Amrita shrugs, “ The problem is, both Shakeel and I are so widely traveled we’ve nowhere to go that we can claim as being our private honeymoon spot.

There doesn’t seem to be any place that neither of us has not visited. I guess we’ll just hold each other’s hand close our eyes and point to any part of the globe as our honeymoon spot. It doesn’t matter where we go as long as we’re together. ”

Kareena Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan patch up... finally

It is learnt from reliable sources that Kareena Kapoor has finally patched up with the Bachchans now. Few days back it was wrongly reported in a Mumbai tabloid that the actress had ignored Amitabh Bachchan at an event completely.

Infact a very close friend of the actress told us that Kareena is one person who will never do so in public. “She knows how to balance her professional life and personal life. She has never shown any animosity towards them. She has been born and brought up in this industry and the question of showing disrespect for the elders will never arise.” the close friend said.

But now Mr. Bachchan has put all rumours to rest by writing in his blog that Kareena and family members as well as the Bachchan family have always given due respect to each other.

Another source reveals, “Mr. Bachchan feels that Kareena is a very warm and affectionate person. She has never disrespected her elders. Mr. Bachchan has seen Kareena grown up in front of him as there has always been a huge connection between the Kapoors and the Bachchans from the great grand father times.”

It is may be recalled that that the Bachchan family was not in touch with Kareena Kapoor after Abhishek Bachchan and Karishma Kapoor broke off their engagement. In fact Kareena and Abhishek had made their debut with J.P. Dutta’s film Refugee. The duo had also received good reveiews for their performance.

But after their split Kareena and Abhishek Bachchan have never done a film. Sources had revealed that Abhishek Bachchan had refused to do films with Kareena though she was ready to work with him. In return Kareena had also refused to do Dostana with Abhishek when she was offered the film from Karan Johar.
