I am game for bikinis and skin show: Anjana Sukhani

Anjana Sukhani says she is game for bikinis if her role really demands it. Though she has adopted a glamorous persona in films like "Golmaal Returns" and "Salaam-E-Ishq", the actress is yet to join the bikini brigade.

"It's not in my wish list either. However, there comes a point in your career where you get a film that requires you to shed your inhibitions. Of course, the role that I play has to be of utmost importance - if it is justified for the character to wear a bikini, then I won't fret about it, " Anjana told.

Skin show has taken a different dimension in the last few months with actresses like Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Minissha Lamba and Amisha Patel getting into the swim wear for their roles. Also with dozens of film and fashion magazines hitting the stands, actresses are making a bee line to be seen on the cover.

"I'm very sure about the fact that posing seductively for the camera doesn't really pay. It can't help you grab work. What eventually matters is how talented you are and whether you can deliver goods on the screen, " said the actress who had grabbed attention in the Cadbury ad with superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

But being in the glamour world where beauty sells, isn't that a dicey statement to make?

"Of course, looking pretty is a valuable thing, but then talent matters as well", said Anjana. "At the end of the day, it is about coming up with a balancing act. Being 'just pretty' or 'just talented' doesn't help because one of them working just in isolation can't take you anywhere. You have to have a good mix of both."

"My dad has always said that you should do things that reflect the goal that you want to ultimately meet. If a small step taken by me helps me get closer to that goal, I won't mind doing that as long as I don't cross any limits, " she added.

In that case, how does she look back at her first few steps when she had just started her career with films like "Humdum" (2005) and "Sun Zarra" (2006)?

"I continue to be emotionally attached to these films because those earlier steps reaffirmed that I existed and paved the way for me to appear in bigger and better films.

I didn't come from a filmy family; nor did I have any supermodel experience that could help me get work. Those were testing times and everything that I decided to do, I had to do it on my own without any godfather supporting me."

With "Jashn", "Tum Milo toh Sahi" and "Allah Ke Banday" in the pipeline, life is certainly looking up for Anjana.

"Certainly. I am glad that these are turning out to be good times. I stand by all my decisions in the past and, regardless of whether they have succeeded or failed, I have no regrets, " she said.

What's Neetu Chandra doing in Apartment with Tanushree

Two months back, Neetu Chandra was at pains to explain to all and sundry that her 13B wasn't a horror film but instead a supernatural thriller. Now she is forced to take the same route of denial even as the shoot of her latest film Apartment is making brisk progress.

"I don't know why some out there are hell bent on placing me in a horror film. I have nothing against the horror genre and who knows, I may work in one as well in near future.

But just like 13B wasn't a horror film, as everyone saw it for themselves, even Apartment doesn't have any inclusion of horror element. Guess people have started associating horror with every film that is set within the confines of four walls in a skyscraper apartment."

She insists that while 13B still had supernatural element attached to it, if not the horror, Apartment is a plain and simple dramatic thriller.

"Jag sir (as Jagmohan Mundhra, the film's director, is popularly called) is really shaping up Apartment quite beautifully. It is an edge of the seat thriller and I am enjoying every day of the shooting.

This is one of those films where I feel like coming in every day the moment I wake up. In fact I get depressed when there is an off day since I am myself so inclined to see which scene is going to be shot next."

Interestingly, Apartment is the same film which was earlier titled Roommates and was supposed to star Gul Panag and Raima Sen along with Pakistani actor Mikaal Zulfiqar of Mundhra's own Shoot On Sight fame.

However, the cast as well as the film's title went through a complete change and Apartment stars Rohit Roy and Anupam Kher along with Neetu Chandra and Tanushree Dutta.

Though Neetu is not willing to talk much about her character in the film, she hints on being prodded further, "Apartment tells the story of this girl (played by me) who comes from a small town to this big city. She sees quite a lot of changes around her which start reflecting in her personality.

Soon, she becomes quite possessive about things and obsession takes over. Now what is she so obsessed about is something for which you would have to wait. It is too early to talk about it."

In the film, Neetu's character is shown to be sharing an apartment with Tanushree Dutta. Now whom does she get obsessed with? Is it the apartment, Tanushree, someone else or herself? Well, time should tell!

I’m tired of being the sweet girl now I am going hot: Amrita Rao

Shocking as it may sound, Amrita Rao who has been in two of the most successful films of the decade –Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na and Sooraj Barjatya’s Vivah and whose success rate and iconic status is certainly higher than most of her contemporaries, was not asked to part of Karan Johar-Tarun Mansukhani’s Vote Aapke Haath Mein Hai campaign.

When asked about this surprising omission Amrita laughs away the query. “You’ll have to ask them why I wasn’t part of it.”

Amrita, it would seem, has antagonized the Johar-Chopra’s by refusing to do Bachna Ae Haseenon. She a was offered the role that Minissha Lamba finally did.

Says Amrita, “I won’t say I’m tired of playing the sweet girl nextdoor who looks at life each day with wide-eyed wonder. But I do crave for a change of image. In my next release Short Cut I play a very glamorous girl.

For the first time I’m being dressed up by Manish Malhotra. That does say something about the characters I’ve played so far. So yes I declined Bachna Ae Haeseenon. I couldn’t relate to the character.”

No one says no to a Yash Chopra presentation. Amrita’s behaviour was secretly described as “high-handed” and “reckless”.

And now she was refused a place among Bollywood’s 30-minus icons in Karan Johar’s voting-awareness film although everyone from Kareena Kapoor to Ritesh Deshmukh featured in it.

Not that Amrita was brooding over being left out. On Thursday Amrita Rao voted for the first time. So excited was she by the prospect of casting her vote that she reached the polling booth even before the gates had opened.

“At 7 am I was the first voter at the booth in the municipal school in Mahim.I feel so proud of being able to vote for the first time. I keep looking at the black mark on my finger proudly. For years I envied that tell-tale mark on my parents’ finger.”

Amrita’s chosen candidate had to fulfil three prerequisites. “He had to be well-educated, young though not inexperienced, and without a criminal background.”

Interestingly she says she attained a voting consciousness from a electorally-galvanizing website jaagore.com.

Fardeen has taken Feroz Khan`s death very badly

A few days after Feroz Khan’s death the Khan family seems to be outwardly calm but his two children - son Fardeen and daughter Laila - haven't come to terms with his death.

"It's a tough time for the family. The two children have taken his death very badly. Laila is inconsolable. But Fardeen is distraught. The family is worried for him. Fardeen keeps breaking down every half an hour. It's a heart-wrenching sight," a source close to the family told.

Now the Khans have arranged a massive prayer meeting at the Marriott in Mumbai on 3 May.

“They’ve chosen a hotel and not a place of worship because of the large crowds that are expected to gather to pay the last respects to FK, ” says a source close to the family. “But it’s a tough time for the family.

The two children have taken FK’s death very badly. Laila is inconsolable. But Fardeen is distraught. The family is worried for him. Fardeen keeps breaking down every half an hour. It’s a heart-rewnching sight.”

Very few Bollywoodians (only Sanjay Gupta, Celina Jaitly, Kishen Kumar and Sajid Khan) could make it to Bangalore for the funeral, although it’s just a 50-minute flight.

At the funeral on Monday there were some surprises. FK’s long-estranged wife Sundari showed up.

“Feroz and Sundari had not spoken to each other for twenty-five years. She not only stayed for the funeral she also stayed the night for the wake where the entire Khan family and close friends spoke their heart out about the man they loved.”

The family is currently in a state of shocked mourning. But Sanjay Gupta who was planning to do the Qurbani remake for FK with Fardeen Khan, is now planning to commission a biography on FK.

Gupta says it’s yet early-days to talk about the biography. “But I wouldn’t like it to be a routine biography. I want to style it on the lines of Hunter Thompson’s Gonzo.

I want to re-construct the great man’s life through the people he knew through various stages in his life from childhood to adolescence to adulthood to his later years. There are two things one can never forget. The first time one has sex and the first time one meets Mr Feroz Khan. He was awesome.”

Gupta own homage to FK is in his next film Acid Rock where Fardeen Khan has been projected exactly like his father. “We never intended it. But when we saw the rushes we were stunned by how much like his father Fardeen walks talks and acts in Acid Rock. It’s uncanny.”

Sanjay Gupta wanted very badly to show Acid Rock to Feroz Khan. “In fact we were planning to fly the print to him. It never happened. We instead sent him the posters. They occupied a pride of place in his den in Bagalore.”

‘I’d love to look like Hepburn:Kangna

The otherwise fashionably-forward Kangna Ranaut will soon be seen taking a step back in time.

She plays a character loosely based on 1970s don Haji Mastan’s girlfriend and yesteryear actress Sona in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai. And the sexy actress is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that she’s bang on where her look is concerned.

To get into the skin of the character, Kangna has been studying yesteryear actresses in both Bollywood and Hollywood. Not only that, she is said to be working on her look that’ll be inspired by these actresses.

From Audrey Hepburn to Asha Parekh and from Sophia Loren to Sadhana, I’m trying to get the hang of their style. The character I play is glamorous and strongly influenced by western fashion, so I want a look that’s western but which also suits someone who’s very much here,” reveals Kangna who is cast opposite Ajay Devgan in this film.

Is there one particular look she really likes? “Audrey Hepburn’s! She was a classy dresser back then. I’d love to look like her,” says Kangna. To get this look, apart from long-eyelashes and heavy eyemake-up — quite characteristic of the era — she is planning to stock up on a lot of high-waisted, narrow trousers and scarves. “Also bell-bottoms were big during the 70s, so I am studying the entire timeline of style,” Kangna says. “I want a look of that era which doesn’t look comical today!”

Impressed though she is by the styles back then, Kangna is happy being a today’s girl. “The styles are more practical and fun in our times,” she says. “High bouffants, bell bottoms are things I can’t imagine today without being laughed at.” Would she like any trend revived? “The shirts. The kinds worn back then were very feminine, practical, yet elegant. I’d love to bring them back,” she smiles.

Kat wins over Sonam Kapoor for Dibakar Bannerjee’s film

Katrina Kaif’s think Brit accent gave her leverage over Sonam Kapoor recently.

Ever since Oye Lucky Lucky Oye worked well in the box office, Sonam and daddy dearest, Anil Kapoor were hoping she would bag the role of the leading lady in his film. He was invited home and shown show reels but much to Sonam’s dismay, the director wasn’t looking for the quintessential Indian beauty.

The film will have Imran Khan and Abhay Deol along with Katrina Kaif. Sonam did catch his attention but with his film requiring a firangi in the film, it was only understandable that Kat was approached for the role.

We hope the next project has Sonam in the flick.

SRK turns to prayer to save KKR

The going is not good for the Kolkata Knight Riders at the IPL and so team owner Shah Rukh Khan has taking to penning down his problems- virtually though. Yes, the superstar, who once famously said that he doesn’t like to blog because he’d rather connect with his fans through the media, is now typing out his worries for the world to see. He’s also using the blog as means to encourage his team to pick themselves up off the floor.

Here’s his latest post titled Keep the Faith:

You must have heard a thousand times that the way to victory does not lie in how hard you can hit; but how hard you can take the hit. And I am not telling you anything new. Every teacher says that to his student, every coach says that to his team and I am sure John has said this to you guys enough times already, just as a father says that to his son.

When they all say this, in their hearts they also wish and hope that their team does not get hit; it doesn’t have to learn to win that way. A father feels, let my son win without ever getting hit; but you still say this to them because you know this world is a hard place. Games are a hard battlefield…your opponent wants to win as much as you do…so there is always going to be a chance that you will get hit. The best of us get hit…Mohammad Ali got hit…Carl Lewis got hit…John Buchanan must have been hit…Sourav Ganguly here has been hit several times.

So lets start from the fact that yes we have been hit already. So this is a good thing. A very good thing! We have been hit and hit hard, so the difficult part is over now. We all should accept that, we do lie at this point very nearly on the floor. So now comes the part, which is more important. The part that we need to show everyone around us, that we can take a hit; we can fall down; but we also know how to scrape ourselves from the floor and continue to fight. We still can take a few hits more and still fight back. Lots of people are saying lots of things about us, but none of them are right. The only right thing is that the owners have faith in this team, the coach has faith in this team; as a matter of fact the team has faith in this team. So there is no problem here at all. Just go out and play to have a great time…enjoy yourselves because pressure only builds more pressure. There is no need to prove anything amongst us. We all trust we are a great bunch of people and cricketers.

One lakh people out there have only one prayer in their hearts, god give our kids strength and a bit of luck to beat the shit out of their opponents. God will listen and deliver today, but just to make sure run faster, hit harder and go out destroy the opponent.

Lets play this like our first game ever as if we have to prove it to the world that we are good and can hit, then lets play this game like the last game of our lives, because we need to prove it to ourselves…that we can take being hit and get up from the floor.

I say a prayer my father taught me; whatever your faith, lets get together and say it… “Nasrun minal lahe wah fatahun kareeb” …

Ad boy Aditya shares space with Kareena

With a face most will recognise, Delhi Boy Aditya Singh Rajput (appropriately nicknamed Addy) has worked in a 100 plus ads and is still raring to go. All of 22, he has worked with Bollywood bigwigs like Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Ajay Devgan. And there’s going to be another name added to that impressive list.

The face of Close-Up, Amul Kool Café, BSNL and Nokia Ngage, Aditya will now be seen with Kareena Kapoor in a Vivel Soap Ad, for which Kareena is brand ambassador.

When asked about his experience, he says, “Well, we shot separately but the shot’s will come together in the commercial.” Ad Agency Law and Kenneth handle the creative duties for other ITC brands such as Essenza Di Wills, Fiama Di Wills and Vivel soap with the size of the business being estimated to be Rs 30 crore.

Aditya is over the moon and can’t believe the exciting journey he’s having. He says, “I did a lot of theatre and modeling in Delhi, but it was only when I got to Mumbai did my luck shine. Doing the commercial with Hrithik was a dream come true and I couldn’t have asked for a better beginning.”

He’s also acted in several telly serials and was also seen in Anupam Kher’s Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Maara and Ajay Devgan’s U, Me Aur Hum. “I am a very simple guy and I have always believed in the fact that it is very important to stay grounded. My friends are not from the industry and they remind me of my roots and where I come from. I have seen the type of attitude people get just after a couple of ads and that is something I despise,” adds Aditya.

The actor is now getting geared up for his upcoming film, Mehul Kumar’s Krantiveer 2. When asked about his role, he says “I play the second lead with Mehulji’s daughter, who is also debuting in the movie. It has a very young cast and I’m very happy with my role.” The movie has already completed 50% of its shooting and is slated to release this August.

And after taking over the ad world, we can’t wait to see Addy make his mark in Bollywood.
