SRK made me nervous: Rituparna Sengupta

SRK made me nervous: Rituparna SenguptaBengali actress Rituparna Sengupta rues she hasn't got enough opportunities in Bollywood to showcase her talent despite being around for four years. But the National Award winner is excited about sharing screen space with none other than Shah Rukh Khan - in an ad film.

"Yes, Bollywood couldn't recognise my talent to the extent expected, " Rituparna, who forayed into the Hindi film industry with "Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh" in 2005, told on phone from Kolkata.

She was then seen in box office duds like "Unns - Love...Forever", "Gauri - The Unborn" and "Sirf - Life Looks Greener on the Other Side".

Rituparna believes she could have made a mark in the Hindi film industry if she had had the advantage of Bollywood lineage or contacts.

"It's difficult to make a mark in Bollywood if you do not belong to a film family or have proper contacts. Talent speaks when you get proper opportunity, " said Rituparna.

Her consolation is that she got a chance to share screen space with superstar Shah Rukh in an ad film for Sona Chandi Chyawanprash. She plays his wife in it.

"It was an amazing experience to work with Shah Rukh. He is cordial and the kind of person who values time, " she said.

Asked if she was nervous about working with the actor, she said: "I was very nervous when I got to know that I would be opposite Shah Rukh. I have a huge fan following, but personally I am a great fan of his."

Rituparna shared her first National Award for Best Actress with Bengali peer Indrani Haldar for her role in Rituparno Ghosh's "Dahan" in 1998 and recently won the same for Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's Bengali film "Anuranan".

Right now she is looking forward to her forthcoming Hindi movie "Paroksh". It is Anup Das' directorial debut and the filmmaker has woven a captivating story around a surrogate mother.

"It's a very women-oriented film. The story is so contemporary that a woman can easily relate herself with the characters, " added Rituparna, who recently did the dialogue promotion for director David Dhawan's "Do Knot Disturb" along with actor Riteish Deshmukh.

"When David Dhawan approached me for it, I happily agreed. Riteish is a nice guy and a fantastic person to work with, " she said.

Asked if she had taken Hindi lessons during her initial days in Bollywood, she said: "No, I knew the language and I do my own dubbing."

Rituparna has also proved her talent as a playback singer in a song featured on her in "Anuranan".

"I sung it only to sync sound as my director said he would get it professionally sung later. But he liked it so much that he kept it as it is. Thus I made my debut as a playback singer, " said Rituparna.

The actress has finished shooting for two more Hindi films - Ajay Varma's "S.R.K" and Faisal Saif's "Osama". She will also be seen in Priyadarshan's Hindi version of Iranian film "Children of Heaven".

Khiladi Kumar expresses fear!

You may never get the opportunity of being put to the test to discover your levels of courage and determination by that Bollywood khiladi Akshay Kumar... but the action superstar has words of wisdom and encouragement for all those who believe he is invincible on screen and in life.

Akshay Kumar

Starting this week, Akshay Kumar blogs exclusively with iTimes — the social networking site of the Times Group that offers blogs, email, fan clubs of stars and more — and shares his fears and emotions, highs and lows, and offers tips to overcoming odds and going ahead in life.

In his first column done off the sets of Blue, where he had to fight an experienced underwater stuntman at 100 feet deep and had 40 sharks circling his head, Akshay writes, “For all those who think the colour of the sea is blue, look again... look deep into the jaws of the ocean, and believe me it is as red as the blood that runs in my veins... The scariest places in the universe are those where you cannot breathe alone — the moon and the ocean. The feeling you get when you first dive into the ocean, that jolt of anticipation of whether your oxygen tank is going to work, where your next breath is coming from, and then the silence, the bubbles clear from your initial splash and you take your first deep breath, it panics you because you pull in too hard for fear of not getting enough air in your lungs, then you look around and absorb your new territory, a world where humans don’t belong, where you are now at the mercy of what lies under the sea, breathtaking yet dangerous... But, my father always said, “No one breaks records by sitting on a sofa!”

I'm extremely fond of Lara: Riteish Deshmukh

"My camaraderie with Lara is excellent and I am extremely fond of her. I have worked with her before; so I share a certain rapport with her," Riteish told us in an interview.

'Do Knot Disturb' is his third film with the former beauty queen after 'Bardaasht' and 'Masti'.

"As colleagues it is important to have on-screen chemistry and when you are doing comedy it is important to have the right timing and everything. Both of us understand that.

"It's great that there are times when we got a scene and we didn't need to rehearse because I know exactly what Lara is going to do and she knows exactly what I'm going to do," added the actor who is also doing Sajid Khan's 'Housefull' with the actress.

'Do Knot Disturb' also stars Govinda and Sushmita Sen and is slated to hit screens Oct 2.

The 30-year-old actor, who has emerged as a comic star after doing a series of comedies like 'Masti', 'Dhamaal', 'Heyy Baby' and 'Kyaa Kool Hai Hum' among others, revealed that his dream of working with Govinda was realised when he was offered this film.

"I always wanted to work with Govinda and David Dhawan. I'm glad that both these people came together in a single film."

So was he insecure or nervous about working with the king of comedy?

"Insecurity comes in when there is competition. In my head it is very clear that Govinda is a far superior actor. He is an institution. You cannot compete with him. Once you understand this, you are free to do as you wish and there is freedom to give your best," he said.

But at the same time Riteish admits while shooting for the laugh riot he was on his toes.

"I was always on my toes because Govinda is such a good actor that you don't want to let him down or let the scene down because of your incompetence. I tried to do as good as possible so that I can match up to his talent and calibre. I didn't want people to say that Govinda is doing so well, but Riteish is spoiling it," he added.

When asked about his reason to stick to mainly comic capers, Riteish, who started his career in 2003 with 'Tujhe Meri Kasam', says that it is not a deliberate attempt to limit himself in one genre.

"Doing comedies is not a deliberate attempt. When certain films work, those are the kinds of offers that keep coming to you; that's the reason why I feature mostly in laugh riots," elucidated Riteish.

"But I'm glad that now I have some films which are not comedies. So I'm looking forward to other genres. It's important for these films to do well so that more such films get offered to me."

Riteish will be seen in three non-comedies that include 'Aladin', 'Rann' and 'Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai'.

Katrina Kaif denies being on Twitter

Katrina Kaif is not on any networking site like Facebook, Twitter, and Orkut etc.Apparently there is some fake person posing as Katrina Kaif on Twitter and is spreading out the news and talking to people on her behalf. There is someone who is impersonating Katrina Kaif and it is causing trouble. A source close to Katrina said, “There is someone who is impersonating Katrina Kaif and is talking to people pretending to be Katrina Kaif.” The Source further added, “Katrina had got a call from a famous director asking how was the script which he discussed on twitter yesterday, to this Katrina was shocked and explained to the director that she doesn’t use networking sites at all.”“Another incident happened when Katrina got a call from a famous studio head about another project, as discussed on Twitter yesterday. To which Katrina was stunned and replied that she never uses Twitter to talk to any one,” adds the source. “On Tweeter the person pretending to be Katrina has been telling people how the Rajniti shoot is going in Bhopal. Seems like this impersonation is reading a lot of material that has been published and hence has so much information on the same,” quips our source.Hot Mallika Sherawat Videos From Murder Hot Scenes

Glamour alone can't help an actress succeed: Namitha

Glamour alone can`t help an actress succeed: NamithaThe bootylicious actress of South Indian film industry Namitha has become busy these days shooting simultaneously for Telugu and Tamil. Bounded to heavy downpour of offers, the actress has gained yet more projects, after shedding weight.

About Jagan Mohini
Namitha is all excited about her forthcoming film ‘Jagan Mohini’, a remake of yesteryear blockbuster with the same title. Speaking about the film, the actress utters, “I’m just waiting for the film’s release as it has been churned out grandiloquently with tremendous graphics and brilliant art works.”

Hollywood debut
When asked about her English movie ‘Maaya’, Namitha adds, “The film was completed a long time before. The business in Hollywood differs a lot from our film industries, and that’s the reason for delay. Producers have confirmed the release by next month.”

Glamour alone doesn’t help
Namitha, far-famed for her glamorous appeal strongly admits that ‘Glam-factor’ alone doesn’t result in success…. Of course, an actress must have the ability to emote well with right expressions and body languages.

Kat, avoid THAT idiot: Salman

Salman Khan doesn’t hesitate to name that ‘idiot’ (it’s not Shah Rukh, by the way) – just like he doesn’t hesitate to talk about his sporting

ambitions, his court cases, being asked to stand for the elections... and, of course, SRK.

From Maine Pyaar Kiya to now,Salman
stays the action hero forever. Actually, you’ve grown fitter over the years, haven’t you?
Yes. But it’s becoming very difficult now. I used to play many sports at that time, used to work out a lot. And then I used that to put a lot of children from the roads into gyms, I think, from having them watch me, from making fitness aspirational. Now, I’m going to take it to a different level with football and cricket. If I could do it then, I’m sure I can do it again.

Becoming the ambassador for football – was it a spontaneous call, ya soch ke Delhi aaye the?
Na na na. Mera koi decision soch ke nahin hota... mujhe jo karna hai, it’s all impulsive. Joh cheez jis waqt right lagti hai, woh main karta hoon.’

Did you decide in the stadium that you wanted to be the ambassador for soccer?
Nahin, uske pehle socha thaa, isliye stadium gaya thaa. The idea appealed to me. And Praful (Patel) is a dear friend, and also the chief of the Football Association right now – he felt that if I could get guys into the gym, I could get them onto the football field as well. The first sporting passion of most kids is football. You just need a ball and a ground.

The last Bollywood hero to become a sporting ambassador was Suniel Shetty, who supposedly became the brand ambassador for hockey. And that was the last one heard of it...
Achha? I’m not too clued in to that. But if I give my name to something, I’ll make sure I give it my one hundred per cent, yaar.

The IPL question: are you or are you not acquiring a team?
Bid karenge. Bid zaroor karenge. Agar bid mein mil gaya, toh team le lenge.

For football, you aren’t charging, it’s close to your heart... But IPL is a business investment. Yeh khayaal kahaan se aaya?
Dekhiye, as far as this goes, I’m going to do it at a different level altogether. One can raise a lot of money through this as well. There are many multinational companies who like to be associated with this, through logos, sponsorships and all that.

Bidding went up to 400 crores for some of the bigger teams last time. Do you have that sort of money in mind?
Itna? Nahin, itna budget toh nahin hai. If it goes to these levels then I can’t afford it! Let’s see.

And how long will you answer the question – are you following SRK?
See, I came into cinema first. Does that mean he followed me into the film industry? Or that we both followed Amitji or Dilip saab into movies?

Ek cheez achhi lagi, usme chale gaye, bas... Main hamesha apne se umar mein kam samajhta thaa lekin recently pata chala ki mujhse ek mahina bada hai woh – iska matlab yeh thode hai ki is duniya mein main isliye aaya kyunki woh aaye the pehle... Anyways, agar unki, ya kisi ki, yeh soch hai, toh unko mubarak ho.

TV would love a match between SRK’s and Salman’s teams, wouldn’t it, with all the undercurrents?
But it’s not as sharp as it’s made out to be. It’s very okay. He’s very respectful to my dad. My sisters-in-law, his wife, they’re very comfortable with each other, we don’t ask or influence them to be otherwise. It’s just that we’re not very comfortable with each other. And I’m sure he’s right where he is, and I’m right where I am.

We won’t see a Karan Arjun again?
Who knows what the future holds?

You won’t back out if you’re offered a movie with SRK?
No, no... I’m above all these things, yaar, these insecurities and all that...

Self-confessed Primitive Man, possessive man, outspoken guy... your dad was ribbing you about dating heroines and expecting them to behave like stay-at-home girls. You let Katrina do what she wants? You really don’t have a hassle with her acting opposite SRK?
No, I’ve never stopped her from doing a film with John or with anybody else, it’s her life, her career, but I’ve just put my foot down on one idiot.

And that is?
Vivek (Oberoi).

Hasn’t he been trying to patch up for eternity?
Arre woh drama-shama karta hai, kaan pakadta hai, you know what all he does... there’s no meaning to it, it’s all... you know what I think of it.

Comfortable reinventing yourself as an ‘action hero’ at 44 with Wanted?
Hey, I’ve just restarted my career once again! Seriously, I haven’t done an action film in the longest time, and I think to stay fit I should do thesas Films Yeh sab romantic films karte raho, romantic scene mein paani ke andar se nikal kar aaye bare-chested, yeh sab theek hai. But to stay actually fit, bhaga-daudi, maara-maari, it takes a lot of energy, that’s what I wanted to do. Like when shooting for Veer, subah 6 baje I would get onto the horse and dismount at midnight... bechara ghoda!

What’s the fanatical gymming regime like?
Two hours or so almost, each day.

And sleep?
I’m fortunate, I get three hours or so each day. Then I sleep in instalments. Fifteen minutes here and there. Teen-chaar minute, shot ke pehle, baithe-baithe, khade hue, kabhi bhi.

How do you manage to live on three hours of sleep a day?
Chal jaata hai... jab mar jayenge tab ek baar theek se so lenge.

You’ve told people, bhai nahin bolne ka. What’s the affront there?
See, my name is Salman. Sohail calls me bhai, younger people around me call me bhai, that’s okay. But increasingly I’ve noticed that it’s becoming part of my name – I’m not ‘Salmanbhai’, okay?

Ya, sounds like a don...
Arre, not that way, they say it as a sign of respect!

Right...
The kids call me Salman, you realise? Just Salman. And when senior people, colleagues, older people begin calling me Salmanbhai, I get very uncomfortable, I say, this is not happening. Of course it’s not about taking offence. Bhai means they trust me, they believe in me... It’s like they call Sanju baba – Sanju baba is 50, but they all treat him like a little baby. Suniel is called anna, big brother. It’s about that sentiment you evoke in others.

Sanju baba has taken very clear political lines. SRK is seen to have clear political preferences and friendships. You must’ve had offers to join up too... You campaigned for people from several political groups in the last elections...
This is not for me. I have a lot of friends from the political world, but it’s not for me to join in. Yes, I campaign for people who I believe do outstanding work. I campaigned for Kamal Nath, for Anju, and for others I believed would make a difference. The people must believe that I am standing by someone because I believe he or she will do good for them. I have lots of friends who called me, but I know that if I go there and campaign, they will win the election, but they will do nothing, so I didn’t go.

So you rejected requests from friends to campaign for them?
Yes.

Nobody asks you to fight the elections?
I was asked to stand (for elections). But I didn’t want to. My job is here, as an actor. I don’t know anything about how to run the country. It’s not my cup of tea, boss!

Emraan feels he is discriminated against in India, SRK was angry at being singled out abroad...
The audience doesn’t take us as Muslim, it says, yeh Salman hai, hamara star hai, hamara bhai hai. If my sister got married to a Hindu (Alvira Khan is married to Atul Agnihotri), it’s her choice, he’s a good man, he’s a super guy, we love him and respect him. If she’d wanted to marry a Muslim guy, that would’ve been super too. But we wouldn’t want to have her married off to someone who may not be a good husband or a good father just because he is a Muslim. On screen we always play Prem, Rahul, Radhe... 90 per cent population which is non-Muslim, usne toh banaya hai humko star. So I don’t believe in all this.

But there is a very, very minute population of people who have no idea of what the religion is about, who have their own idea of it and of what they want to do, who have made life difficult for Muslims.

You don’t get hassled travelling because your name is Khan?
If you have to go to a particular country, you should be prepared to respect their rules. Mere saath toh India mein hi kitna kuch hua hai. Jin cheezon mein main involve nahin tha, unme things were blown out of proportion because I was a star. Main Jodhpur jaata hoon for hearings, Mumbai mein case chal raha hai... but at least on that account people think that if this can happen to Salman, it can happen to us, so cases of hunting or drunken driving come down significantly.

The rounds of courts continue?
Nau saal ho gaye...
It becomes a media trial. Hum khud nahin baat kar sakte hain about any detail because it is subjudice. Lekin baaki saari duniya baat karti hai. Aapne do galat article likh diye mere bare mein toh judge sahib ne dekhe hain.... Woh kahin na kahin influence kar jaate hain.

In any high-profile celeb case in a small court, if you let the person get away, the media will hound the court and say, how can you let him get away, he is powerful, has connections, etc, etc. If the star is thrown in prison, then also the media will start off, saying fans are upset, the case is not strong enough, you are just making an example out of him. So it’s a Catch-22 situation even for the authorities in cases involving stars... We need people to take a stand.

You’ve not been in the news for controversy for some time. Doesn’t that feel strange?
Haan, kaafi time se koi gul nahi khila hai. Main kaafi time se kisi galat jagah pe galat time pe nahi mila hoon.

A girl was saying ‘Main aapko apna pati maan chuki hoon’ today. How do you handle that sort of thing?
It’s scary, man, I don’t know how to handle it, I just don’t.

You get letters written in blood and all that sort of stuff?
Yes, that is why I stopped answering my fan mail. Yeh pehle bahut hota tha. I don’t like that sort of stuff. I can’t handle it.

You should stay single, actually, then girls can keep telling you they consider you their husband!
Yaar agar kaagaz pe sign karna shaadi hai, toh maaf kar do mujhe, ki nahin hui shaadi meri. Waise toh agar divorce bhi sirf sign karne se hota, bahut se logon ke divorce ho chuke hain, bas papers sign nahin huye hain!
Hum abhi paperwork tak aaye nahin hain... when people stay together and break up, it is also like a marriage and divorce, bas functions nahin hote!

No marriage for the next 10 years: Amrita Rao

She was rumoured to be dating Shahid Kapoor and then Hurman Baweja. But there is no one "special" in her life right now and she won't think about marriage for the next 10 years, says actress Amrita Rao, who is all set to don a glamorous avatar in "Short Kut".

"I'm not getting married for the next 10 years. I don't have anyone special in my life at the moment and my complete focus is on my work," Amrita told IANS over phone from Mumbai.

The 28-year-old entered the Hindi film industry seven years ago with "Ab Ke Baras". She then featured in college love story "Ishq Vishk", sex comedy "Masti", shared screen space with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in potboiler "Main Hoon Na" and social drama "Vivah". She was also appreciated for her performance in Shyam Benegal's non-commercial "Welcome To Sajjanpur".

Now the actress is all set for her first release of the year, "Short Kut - The Con Is On", in which she has teamed up with Akshaye Khanna and Arshad Warsi.

Set in Bollywood, the film is about two strugglers - one who makes it big as a superstar (Arshad) after stealing a script and the other (Akshaye) who continues to struggle as a director after his script gets stolen.

"I am playing an actress in the film. Neeraj Vora wanted to highlight the personal life of an actress through my character," Amrita said.

The actress said that her bold avatar in the film was not a conscious decision.

"Everyone has been asking me whether I made a conscious decision to change my look. This is not the case. I haven't sat and decided that I'm bored with one kind of role so give me something else. It's just that I have got an opportunity to do different roles and I have moulded myself to suit the character," she said.

"The same is the case with my character in this film. I wanted to do something different with the styling of this character and so the new look. Nothing more," Amrita added.

Fashion designer Manish Malhotra is the one who has styled Amrita's new look.

Produced by Anil Kapoor, "Short Kut..." is scheduled for a July 10 release. Amrita says she was thrilled to work with the actor-producer who used to give her pep talks during the shoot.

"Many times he used to give me pep talks, encouraging and motivating me. The whole energy and aura about him is great. He is an incredibly positive personality," the actress said.

Talking about the two male actors in the film, Amrita said: "Akshaye is an actor who comes completely prepared and is a 'one take' actor so you also feel you should give your best.

"Arshad comes up with these impromptu additions to the dialogues which are just so funny. So matching that becomes a little difficult."

I regret making my relationship with Ranbir public: Deepika

Deepika Padukone has everything going for her in Bollywood. She has worked with top stars and big banners. But she does have one regret - making her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor public.

"When we got into a relationship, we decided to be open about it. Otherwise there would be reports about us being spotted holding hands, kissing, hugging, etc. Since we were so clear about our relationship, we had nothing to hide. I thought people would respect that. But it didn't work out that way," Deepika said.

Deepika was specially upset about the paparazzi pictures of her and Ranbir.

"We both have families and very respectable families. People who take pictures of us secretly must have families and boyfriends and girlfriends. We've now decided not to talk about our friendship. At the end of the day no one is going to see our films because we're a couple," said the actress who teamed up with Ranbir in Bachna Ae Haseeno.

Any other film with Ranbir after Bachna Ae Haseeno?

"We get offers every day to act together, but we're waiting for the right opportunity. The script has to be special. But we're very clear about not mixing business with our relationship," she said.

Tell her there was no upward movement in Ranbir's graph as an actor from Saawariya to Bachna... and she protests, "His graph was already so high in Saawariya, where could he go? Bachna Ae Haseeno gave him a chance to do something totally different. I too want to get away from the glam sham.

"Of course, I want to wear good clothes and sing good songs. But I'd be uncomfortable doing just songs and dances. Beyond Sajid Khan's film I haven't signed any movie. Imtiaz Ali's films are very real relevant to today," she said.

Deepika has mainly worked with older actors - Shah Rukh, Akshay Kumar. In her next, Love Aaj Kal, she teams up with another senior actor Saif Ali Khan. But she is not complaining.

"Ranbir and I work like pals. But I wouldn't say I had more fun working with him. You are not on the sets to have fun. But yes, definitely the comfort level with him was much higher even when we weren't seeing each other. My other co-stars were a lot more mature and I was a lot more reserved with them. But I've to tell you, Shah Rukh completely pampered me," she said.

Talking about her Love Aaj Kal co-star Saif, she said, "Saif is reserved. I've heard he wasn't like this earlier. I believe he has calmed down a lot because of Kareena or whatever. Saif and I just did our work on Imtiaz Ali's sets and went our separate ways. That's the way I like it. I'm a very reserved person. I'm not here to make friends. But yes, Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba are now friends."

Deepika has signed Sajid Khan's full-fledged comedy Houseful.

"It's not just a few comic scenes here and there. It's a hardcore comic role. And I wonder how I'll manage it. I'll try. Sajid has a great sense of humour and I'd go by his vision. Sajid just told me to follow him. If my director has so much confidence in me, I can't let him down," said the actress, who has a very sober image.

"But that doesn't mean I don't have a sense of fun. I plan to have a ball doing Houseful. I'm a reserved person in real life, but that doesn't mean I can't be funny for the camera," she added.

So after working with sister Farah it's brother Sajid.

"I'm very fond of both of them. At a time when the entertainment industry wasn't too confident about me, Farah trusted me completely. She didn't even audition me. Farah was the one who spotted talent in me and cast me opposite Shah Rukh," she said.

It's an awesome kind of pain: Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra is in a hush-hush mood. After all she has become Controversy’s Child, and all and sundry want to ask her about the questions worth a million bucks – Are she and Shahid Kapur dating? What’s the relationship between Gerard Butler and her? Was Shahid miffed with her closeness with Gerard? Did she dump Harman Baweja just because he hasn’t proved to be ‘successful’... and Piggy Chops just doesn’t have the belly to handle all of that. So she simply urges us to go a little easy and stick to questions pertaining to films alone!

Currently shooting for ‘What’s Your Rashee’, directed by Ashutosh Gowariker – the same filmmaker who told Priyanka that Aishwarya Rai was more deserving of the Best Actress Award for ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ than she was for ‘Fashion’ – Priyanka Chopra treats the comment as a by-gone and again shrugs and chooses to not say much. But that doesn’t mean that the girl delivers less for ‘What’s Your Rashee?” She instead is learning contemporary jazz, and describes it as ‘painful’.

She even danced for 22 hours – a special song which required her to be in 12 different get-ups. “But contemporary jazz,” Priyanka says, “is painful. Rehearsing for ‘What’s Your Rashee?’ is killing me! But it’s an awesome kind of pain! But I’m still wondering, how do they do it?”

Saif likes me sexy all the time: Bebo

Kareena Kapoor's hot, glamorous look in Kambakkht Ishq isn't just for the film

Kareena Kapoor has reason to feel happy. Kambakkht Ishq where she plays a feminist who finally falls in love with the man she hates has opened well.

But more than a good opening, her family and beau Saif Ali Khan have loved the film. "My whole family, except me, is hard-core commercial film lovers.

My mother (Babita) loved Kambakkht Ishq so much that she's going to the theatre again today with 15 friends to see it with the audience. Lolo loves David Dhawan kind of entertainers and has loved this too," said Kareena.

Her father Randhir Kapoor is on a cruise to Lisbon. "He messaged me yesterday congratulating me on the huge opening of Kambakkht Ishq.

He reaches London in a couple of days to shoot for House Full and will watch the film there. Mom was very happy with me.

She said after a long time I have done such a glamorous role and that I should keep doing films like this. My family is not very fond of my films like Omkara and Chameli."

"Saif loved my look and styling done by Aki Narula in Kambakkht Ishq. He doesn't like the song 'Bebo mein Bebo.'
His favorite song is the one in Venice with Akshay, which goes 'Lakh lakh'. Saif enjoyed KI so much that he says he can watch it again and again.

He likes to see me look glamorous and sexy and not just in films. He wants me to dress up all the time when we are going out for dinner or to parties."

Kareena feels that Kambakkht Ishq is a good film to watch over the weekend. "The film has lots of laughs, lots of glamour and sex appeal and the chemistry between Akshay and me is superb!

Though I play a feminist in the film in real life I am not like that. I am feminine and loving."

Both Katrina, Kareena have sexy bodies, says Akshay

Action king can’t decide who’s better

Akshay Kumar has worked with both Kareena Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in several films, but can't decide who is better. The action king says both are "wonderful actresses" and have "sexy bodies".

"Both Kareena and Katrina are really good but who is the better among them depends on their roles in the films. Otherwise, both of them have sexy bodies and are absolutely wonderful actresses," said Akshay when asked to choose his favourite of the two.

Akshay has done four films with Katrina including "Namastey London" and "Singh Is Kinng", while he has worked with Kareena in five that include hits "Ajnabee" and "Aitraaz". The two are set to scorch the screen once again in their upcoming action-cum-romantic drama "Kambakkht Ishq", which releases on Friday.

"In 'Kambakkht Ishq', Kareena has performed very well. Her character required to answer back at me and be strong and she has portrayed it in a powerful, yet lovable way. On the other hand, even Katrina was really good in 'Namastey London'. So it's not really about my choice... it all depends on their roles," the actor told IANS over phone from Puerto Rico, where he is on a holiday.

Akshay, who has spent more than 18 years in the Hindi film industry, says acting with a new league of actresses is a learning experience.

"As a senior actor, I don't always have to give out tips to the younger ones. In fact, I feel I can learn a lot from the younger generation because they have new ways of acting and a different approach to work.

"I cannot particularly point out what I have learnt from them (Kareena and Katrina) yet, but yes, working with them was a learning experience," said the actor, who has also teamed up with Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Ayesha Takia.

Akshay plays a Hollywood stuntman in "Kambakkht Ishq", which also boasts of big Hollywood names like Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards and Brandon Routh - working with whom has been a "dream come true" for the actor.

In the film, Akshay has done what he is best at - action and daredevilry - something that had taken a backseat in his career for a while.

"I decided to stop doing stunts till Aarav (son) turns at least six. Now I'm back at it again. In 'Blue', which is an action thriller, I have done some death-defying stunts like the one where I had to swim 150 feet underwater with 30-40 sharks. But I will talk about it sometime later," he said.

At the moment, the 41-year-old actor is pinning hopes on Sajid Nadiadwala's "Kambakkht Ishq" to bail him out after his much-publicised films "Chandni Chowk To China" and "8X10 Tasveer" fizzled out at the box office.

"I'm expecting great response for this film. Though I had worked very hard in 'Chandni Chowk...' , the response didn't turn out to be as expected. Some people and critics didn't like it and '8X10 Tasveer' was more like an art film, which has a niche market in India. 'Kambakkht Ishq' is a complete entertainer and I hope the audience appreciates it," he said.

Apart from "Kambakkht Ishq", Akshay will also be seen in "Blue", "De Dana Dan" and "Action Replay".

I was myself in New York: Katrina

Having already created a buzz with her 'no make up' look in the promos of her forthcoming venture "New York", Katrina Kaif says her character Maya in the movie is a reflection of what she is in real life.

"The first brief that I got from my director (Kabir Khan) was that 'it (the character) is the Katrina whom you have not seen in other films... She is not the one by whom you are intimidated when you see her'. I have just been myself in the film," Katrina told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.

"I was told 'look at yourself, the personality you have and the things you go through in real life'... Of course, the situations would be different but Maya is what Katrina is off-screen. She is what I'm in real life," she added.

Asked if it was a deliberate effort to have a deglamorised look in the film, she said: "When I hear the word deglamorised, I think of someone who has put mud on the face and is wearing dirty clothes... It's not a deglamorised role... It's a very realistic role where I bring out what I am in reality."

Portraying her real characteristics in the movie was also a "different experience" for the 24-year-old. "It was a kind of a challenge in itself, but it was the most wonderful part too," she said.

Produced and distributed by Yash Raj Films, "New York" is releasing June 26 worldwide.

Apart from Katrina, it stars John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh in male leads with Irrfan Khan in a pivotal role.

Set in New York, the narrative spreads over nine years. It tells the story of three young friends whose lives take an unexpected turn after 9/11.

"My brief was very clear that Maya is not a Muslim and also that 9/11 attacks are only a backdrop to the film, after which their (the three friends') lives change and take a turn... it's about their emotional journey in the film than anything else," she said.

The Britain-born model-turned-actress' career soared to heights after she gave four back-to-back hits in 2007 - "Namastey London", "Apne", "Partner', "Welcome" and the first hit of 2008 "Race" in which Katrina played a character with shades of grey. She continued the winning streak with the comedy "Singh Is Kinng".

Apart from honing her acting skills, Katrina has also begun dubbing her movies on her own with an improved Hindi accent.

"I choose to dub on my own and make the efforts. I try to make it sound correct. Where some other artist might take three days to dub, I take six days, but I am trying very hard," she averred.

Katrina also denied taking Hindi classes.

"I don't think I need to take Hindi lessons."

After predominantly juggling with comedy, Katrina has moved to serious roles with "New York" and Prakash Jha's "Rajneeti".

"I've just arrived at a point where I am being offered diverse films," said Katrina who was last seen in Subhash Ghai's dud "Yuvvraaj".

Her future projects include a bevy of big-budget ventures like "Blue", "De Dana Dan" and "Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani".

The actress is content with her career.

"Everything is given to us by god. All you can do is work hard towards something. I've always believed in that and have always tried staying professional and given my best. And I love criticism... you have to take it constructively and move ahead in life," she said.

People meet me on streets and say Sir Ek Gaali Do Na: Raghu

People meet me on streets and say Sir Ek Gaali Do Na: RaghuRaghuram who gave nightmare to the contestants in MTV Roadies, got candid in an interview talking about his film, fundas and future. Reality show specialist will be for the first time dealing with fiction with the film 1-800-love. So guys get geared to expect many unexpected avatar of his.

On film offers…
Rajeev and I have received many film offers. But the fact is that we don’t have time. I turned down the offer from a big production house over date issues.

Very sarcastic remark came from him saying oh! Raghuram does not have time and has date issues. I was doing Roadies then. I said yes Raghuram has date issue more than your biggest star because Raghuram is an employee and usse chhutti ki arzi deni hoti hai. I can’t stand up and say hey shoot for me anytime.

On his film debut…
I desperately needed a break from work and had decided upon a sabbatical. But very next day I got a call from Abbas Tyrewala. I am playing an integral part in his film 1-800-love that stars John Abraham and Abbas’s wife Pakhi.

I’m not playing negative character but it’s a normal personality like in Jaane Tu… Genelia’s fiancé, he was not a villain, he was a certain character. My look will be the same in the movie. mujhe wig pehna diya jaayega toh koi pehchaanega hi nai.

On Abbas Tyrewala…
If you see Jane Tu Ya Jaane Naa…there are no black, white or grey characters. I like Abbas bhai because he does not look at the world as black or white. We do meet such characters in life. Abbas was looking for that character that has personality like me.

He auditioned lot of people but nobody fit the character thus he approached me. I told him personality toh theek hai but performance is your department as I am not the born performer.

I had only met him at the premier and once for the celebration of his movie along with my wife Sugandha Garg. She did not recommend my name at all for my film. As I have barged unknown number in my phone Sugandha conveyed me that he (Abbas) has been trying to get in touch with me.

On Roadies after-effects…
I use to get weird calls including death threats at odd times. Once it was three in the morning. A guy called Arjun constantly kept calling me. I told him that I don’t take calls at this time. He still kept calling but I did not answer. Guess what he messaged me saying baat karle baksh dunga, Warna tu gaya.

I was like Mare ja raha hai baat karne ko karle jo karna hai…I did not speak to him. Then I changed my number but again my new number got leaked on Orkut. So I got unknown numbers barged.

I am very private person in fact I stop going to places where people start staring at me. Log kehte hai bewkufi hai what if someone has some serious work with you. I am like gaya toh gaya but I don’t wanna be bothered.

At times mujhe log street pe milte hai they say sir ek gaali do. Yeh kya baat hui…Fir mein gaali deta hoon they say thank you. Its strange log gaali sunna chahte hai mujhse. The say sir aapse ek baar fadwaani hai.

On acting career
I do not want to come on camera. I opposed to my best for even roadies audition. Only reason that I agreed was that I knew what I want out of a Roadie and I could speak Hindi. I am a person who will execute behind the camera.

Acting is what I never wanted to do but I’m passionate about music. Cameras don’t make me nervous but I am edgy about acting. It is altogether different that I have been doing so far.

If meri wajah se retakes hote gaye toh mereko bahut burra lagega. Films are far more expensive than shows. Kya hoga yaar! Mereko sabse bada tension yeh hai ki kissi sad scene mein koi ro raha hai aur mein hass pada.

On future in acting…
I never ever planned Bollywood. I don’t anyway foresee a long career in film industry for myself because of the way I look, I won’t experiment either.

On Childhood …
We are from South Indian middle class family where you have to study, get a good job, get married and settle down. We were not that good student. All our focus was in making a better student. There were no extra curricular activities that we would take part in.

I now feel that it was a mistake. We were not good in studies because that did not interested us. Music interested us, story telling interested us. We did drop out from college and started working. It’s almost 15 years now. Everyone can do everything but only few people excel.

Maths class mein har koi baithta hai, log 100% bhi laate hai aur mere jaise fail bhi hote hai. Meine ek baar zero laaye the, fir maine mehnat ki mehnat ki aur agle test meine ek laaye tha. Ussi class mein mere bagal mein baithne waals usse 25 mein se 25 lata tha.

Seekhaya toh sabko jata hai lekin who kuch log hote hai jo seekh jaate hai. So it is all about if you have an aptitude you can become an actor. If you are good at some thing you should get trained and then you improve with experience.

On MTV…
MTV, I and Rajeev share a connection. Our energies match. No channel would like to show our idea but MTV loves it. So it’s fun to be here. Why go else where.

On VJying…
People think who can gel their hair and go to gym can become a VJ. VJying too needs an intrinsic talent. According to me Nikhil and Ranvijay are the best presenters we have. But all I and Rajeev can do is we can express ourselves most effectively. If some shows will require us as a personality we will do it.

On his Love for music
Rajeev and I always had affinity towards music. When we were 5 months old we would react to the emotions of the song. If it is sad song we would cry and if it happy song we would laugh. I do play guitar but I regret not learning Karnataka music.

Our teacher said that they can be brilliant singers only if they can sit still for an hour. So they refuse to teach us. We use to do choreography in college and continued it for 5 years. I am also associated with a band called Agni. I wrote Roadies theme song, I wrote song for Team Diva with Agni.

Lot of my friends asks me to cut an album but I believe though I am a better singer than most of them but it does not mean that I can come up with an album. Sonu Nigam, Jagjit Singh, ….they are so good, that is the standard of singing.

Shiney seems to have had consensual sex: Chitrangda Singh

Shiney seems to have had consensual sex: Chitrangda SinghChitrangda: “I worked with him in two films. It’s very shocking and unfortunate. Though I didn’t know him personally I felt he was a nice guy on the sets. Kept a bit aloof. Quiet and ambitious.

He got along with people just fine. I hope the investigations are fair. And that someone doesn’t get punished for being a celebrity. He seems to have said it was consensual sex. I think it takes courage to own up. I hope he stays strong though this. People do make mistakes.

One has to pay for wrongs done. But the punishment should be fair. And if there’s rape justice has to be done to the girl.”

Pritish Nandy: “The matter is under investigation. I strongly believe in justice taking its own course. However I feel too many people are jumping to too many conclusions. Let’s not judge Shiney until the investigations are concluded.

Mahesh Bhatt: “The news has shocked and shamed us. The Shiny we at Vishesh Films worked with in Gangter and Woh Lamhe is not the demon that surfaced in the media on Sunday night. If what is alleged is proved in the courts we must condemn the dastardly deed with all our might. Our outrage cannot be selective.

Mukesh Bhatt: “I’m appalled by the way the electronic medium has already labeled Shiney a rapist. You can’t do this to a man who has a family career and a bright future.

Do these byte-hungry channels realize how his career would be affected by all these premature and careless reports? Punish him by all means, if he’s guilty.

But let the law decide that. How do we now what really happened? Anyone can say anything about someone in the light.

Suppose they had consensual sex ? Shiney is a successful man. As far as I can see he can get any woman he wants without forcing himself on anyone. This behaviour seems so out of character and so absurd.

Sudhir Mishra: “I was shooting in the night on Sunday and woke up very late on Sunday. I woke to confusing stories about Shiney. What can I say? The Shiney that I know and the Shiney that I hear about now are two different entities.

Though he has been a little upset with me for six months because I was working with others actors, we’re very close. Hazaron Khawishein Aisi was not just the film that launched him it was also aturning point in my career. It bonded us for a lifetime.

I just can’t believe that the Shiney who’s being accused of this behaviour is the same person I know. There were so many women on the sets. They never had any complaints about Shiney’s behaviour.

In fact, Shiney did a film with my assistant Ruchi Narain called Kal. Shiney was always a thorough gentleman. I sm sure there’s some misunderstanding here.

Anurag Basu: “I’m in a state of shocked disbelief. This has got to be conspiracy to malign him. Shiney has done two of his best films with me.

We’ve bonded over a long period of time. Never ever has there been even a hint of bad behaviour from him. I wouldn’t have tolerated it.

I remember once long ago a spotboy had behaved badly with a lady on my sets. I had fired him immediately. One has to be very craeful about these things. It’s not fair to try Shiney on television.

Let the law decide. I’ll believe it only if Shiney himself tells me. He has worked with some of the most beautiful heroines. No one has ever had any grievance against him. I feel this is a trap to malign him.”

Kunal Kohli: “I worked briefly with Shiney in Fanaa. This is indeed very sad.. Rape is the worst crime a man can commit against a woman. If he’s guilty then it’s really very shocking and shameful.Any rapist should be dealt with in the severest way.

Shilpa Shetty (she’s Shiney’s only co-star who cared to respond): “It’s shocking! I can’t believe it. We don’t know for sure what transpired between Shiney and the girl and we really can’t say what the truth us. But if it really happened it’s sad.

Saif Ali Khan: I have a lot of love in my life

Saif Ali Khan is easily one of the most charming and intelligent actors of our times. He is also very polite as he patiently answers all the questions you put forth.

We spoke to the good-looking and well-spoken producer and actor of the highly anticipated Love Aaj Kal, talks about his first baby, chemistry with co-star Deepika Padukone and the meaning of love, working with Imtiaz Ali, playing a sardar, among many other things.

How difficult was the job of producing a film?
It is difficult because you are never a 100% satisfied. You always want to make a few changes. If you want a glass of water, someone has to get it. That way, every detail has to be organized. I have had a fantastic team. My partner Dinesh Vijan has been amazing. I didn’t shoulder the responsibility of everything. Imtiaz Ali told me at the beginning of the film that he wanted me to be only an actor and not look into the nitty-gritties of production. I have been involved creatively, in terms of promos and posters as I am most interested in that. Dinesh has handled the other aspects.

This is your first baby as a producer. How do you feel?
I think when a film releases, you are always nervous. As a producer, you feel different because it is your product. Everything you have designed is a result of your decision, so that is frightening and exciting at the same time. I am feeling very positive though.

A lot of your colleagues are well-established producers. Have you sought or do you plan to seek advice from them?
I think I have been fortunate enough to work with big banners and my successful films have been with big banners. I think more than the banner and the director, success also has to do with the star cast. We always learn from people around us. I have friends in the industry: not just colleagues who are producers but also producers who are my friends. Farhan Akhtar and Karan Johar would be more than happy to help me. I haven’t called anyone to ask for help as yet. We tried our best with the team we had. We have managed to make a film somehow and it has been a learning process.

Why did it take you so long to turn producer?
My interest isn't in production. After working for eighteen years, one feels it would be nice to own a little bit of what you are working for, to be a little more involved creatively and work a little more for yourself. It is okay to have opinions as actors. Everyone has feelings and opinions for their films but when your own money is involved, those inputs mean something else. That level of involvement in the business that has given me so much is something I wanted to try. Also, right now the market is very different. I was not ready earlier, today I feel ready. Now, we have so many studios and very few independent producers. I want to be an independent producer.

You have worked with many producers. Have you learnt any do's or don'ts from them?
I thought that the food should be good and people should get paid on time. (Laughs)

Your son Ibrahim had a cameo in Tashan. Now that you are a producer, will he be part of your films?
He is still depressed that Tashan flopped at the box office. (Laughs)

Why did you decide to work with Imtiaz Ali?
One always gets a vibe when you hear a script and meet somebody. A great actor once said that the clever thing an actor does is not acting but the listening and choosing of the right script in the drawing room. I loved the script when Imtiaz Ali narrated it to me and that is how we began working together.

The story of the films looks like it is based in two different eras: the present era and the 60's. So does it show how love has changed over time?
It is very difficult to compare love stories because the experience of love is the same. A lot of cinematic and real life love stories have certain obstacles that can change. In today’s times, it is career, distance, etc but in our parents time it was something else. So the process of falling in love can change with the times but the feeling is the same. That is what the film is about. The 60's portion is a part of the story. It isn’t really a comparison. It isn’t a double role as such.
The story is primarily about a guy called Jai who doesn’t believe in love. He thinks Romeo and Juliet, Heer-Ranjha are romantic stories that have ruined our lives because they tell people how love should be. He feels people should be more practical in today’s times. If you are working in India and your girl is in India, they should break up and just be friends and not have a relationship. He wants to follow his head, not heart and see what happens in life. He comes across a person who tells him a love story that has an impact on him. The story seems confusing but isn’t when you see the film.

Are you practical or a romantic? What does love mean to you?
I think I am a mixture of all these things. I am not lovey-dovey to the point of only doing that. I am practical also. I take a lot of decisions from my heart.
I think everyone has the same definition of love. I have a lot of love in my life and it feels nice.

How has your perception of love changed as you have grown older?
First of all, I am not that old. The feeling is the same. I could write a small book on that. You live, learn and grow as every decade passes. I think the expression changes in some ways. The essence of love is to feel good and happy.

What do you think of your pairing with Deepika?
I think Deepika and I look very nice and refreshing together. She is a new face and we haven’t worked together before. She has a very Indian, grounded and mature quality. Her personality grounds my personality on screen, like Rani Mukerji did in Hum Tum, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. I have a more western appeal and Deepika is earthy and Indian. That mixture translates into an interesting chemistry on screen.

Was it difficult to play a sardar?
It wasn’t difficult but it also carried a certain amount of responsibility. We met members of Sikh organizations and they were all very happy. Dolly aunty has done my Sardar clothes. The sardars were proud of the honourable representation that the character has been given. I worked on my accent too. My character speaks Punjabi. It is all genuine: the hair, the turban and the clothes.

How did you’ll decide on the title?
Imtiaz Ali came up with it. It is a love story about the difference between people in love today and people in love in earlier times. It means love, these days and also means love, today and yesterday.

Why aren’t you promoting the film at IIFA?
IIFA is a great platform as long as it suits everybody. The main performance slot is the opening slot and the last performance slot and they have already been booked. The Bachchans are doing the finale. We didn’t want to dissolve our film in the middle slots. We are tied up with T20 and have to be at Lords in London in a couple of days to promote the film.

Are there any intimate scenes in the movie? What does Kareena think about the film?
Intimate scenes need to be handled with a little care, whether it is seeing one or doing one because they make Indian family audiences uncomfortable.
Kareena has seen the film and she liked it.

Why did you choose to call your production house Illuminati Films?
I have been fascinated with secret societies since I was a boy. I knew of the Illuminati before Angels and Demons, the book came out which made it famous. I was going to call it Lucifer Productions, which means ‘giver of life’ but we chose Illuminati. It means enlightened.

I'm not sexy: Katrina Kaif

I`m not sexy: Katrina KaifKatrina Kaif has been voted the India's Sexiest Woman yet again but this is one honour lovely lass is not ready to accept.

She says, "I would rather be thought of as pretty rather than sexy."

Kat is also not bothered by men downloading pictures of her from the internet, she is not entirely comfortable with her racy image. What’s puzzling is that the lady has been covered up in most of her films and yet has been sparking men’s imagination more than those who’ve been stripping down.

"It feels good to be voted by fans and that too in such huge numbers, but I don't think if you wear a bikini or show skin, you look sexy," she said.

The fact that she is the most searched actress on the internet tells how popular she is. Urban men like her looks - a perfect merger of International and Indian looks. Her fans keep downloading her photos on internet in huge scale but she is not in the mood to think about it.

And who do Katrina think is the sexiest and hottest man in Bollywood?

She would surely make a good diplomat if we are to go by her answer to the question. "Only if I’m in love with a man, I find him hot," she said.

However, the actress revealed that she finds Neil Nitin Mukesh "the cutest".

Getting intimate with a girl doesn't mean I'm a Lesbian: Neetu Chnadra

Getting intimate with a girl doesn`t mean I`m a Lesbian: Neetu ChnadraDenying rumours that she got carried away while shooting a provocative male fantasy photo shoot for the cover of a men’s magazine, actress Neetu Chandra (of Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!) has stated, “I very much knew what I was doing and never got carried away.

But if there is even an iota of doubt in anyone’s mind, let me make it clear once and for all that I am not a lesbo.”

It can be recalled that Neetu was shooting for the cover of ‘The Man’ magazine with a model outside the lobby of a 3- star hotel last week, when a group of regular male customers started shouting “Jai Maharashtra” slogans and threatened action from Raj Thackeray’s Maharashrtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).

They even tried to confiscate the camera, resulting in the shoot having to be abruptly called off.

Neetu had termed them as “some frustrated men, who just wanted my attention. When they didn’t get it, they started making a scene about the shoot and threatening us.”

Now there has been talk about some activists planning to burn copies of the said magazine when its issue carrying Neetu’s images releases next week, alleging that the images have lesbian connotations. But Neetu flatly denies the charge. “It’s about two girls getting intimate to arouse male interest. And that doesn’t mean it’s about lesbianism,” she reiterates.

She says the shoot has been done so aesthetically that several Bollywood biggies have complimented her after the pictures made its way into television channels and papers even before the magazine hit the stands.

“I am getting so many congratulatory phone calls, SMS’s and emails,” says Neetu and adds that even her family members in the conservative city of Patna, instead of being embarrassed, have praised the pictures.
