Who deserves maximum compliments - Abhishek or Imran?

Come 2nd October and Bollywood would witness yet another interesting clash between the two biggies Abhishek–Priyanka starrer DRONA and Sanjay–Imran starrer KIDNAP. A lot has been written and talked about both these films. Apart from the fact that both are set to hit the screens on same day, the one thing which is being widely raved about is the new look of either of the actors – Abishek Bachchan and Imran Khan.

A lot of time and money was spent behind the styling of each of these actors.

While Abhishek sports an unconventional organic look for his superhero act in DRONA than the cute kidnapper Imran dons a complete funky and trendy attire.

Abhishek's look in DRONA is inspired by the traditional Indian bridegroom and medieval warriors, contrary to what most western superheroes wear. Imran's styling has been given a western touch keeping current fashion in mind.

If Abhishek's vintage look with an earthy appeal absorbs one's attention than Imran's dashing new avatar with a tattoo on his neck, a muscular body with stubbled face sporting a Mohawk haircut is definitely mesmerizing.

Both the female charmers are looking absolutely stunning and hot.

Well drawing comparisons between the two is unfair, but still we would like to hear from you gals what you feel, who deserves the maximum compliments.

Aishwarya Rai Shoots A Song With Rajnikanth For Robot

The moment one mention of the word Robot, the first thing that comes to mind is that of gadgets and gizmos. But the South India based ace director Shankar has vowed to change it all, for he is making a film with the same name and stars none other than…hold your breath… South superstar Rajnikanth and Bollywood top actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan! Ok! you can breathe now.

Now it can be told. The star price war was has escalated to an all time high. With Aishwarya Rai carrying home a pay packet of Rs 4 Crores for her proposed stint as Rajnikanth’s leading lady in Robot, the lady has now become the highest paid actress of Indian cinema.

As for her astronomical fee for Robot a source close to the project says, “It is no surprise that Asihwarya is getting 4 crores. It is still chicken feed compared with what Rajnikanth gets paid. He takes home Rs 15 crores plus fifty percent of his movie’s profits. But still he can not make a movie commercially viable outside the Tamilian belt on his own. With Aishwarya in Robot it looks like an attractive non regional movie”.

For those who wake up to Bollywood know about the controversy dodging this flick. But for the innocent and ignorant ones, here it goes. The movie was initially to star Shahrukh nonetheless. But due to “creative differences” (unmentionable differences), he opted out of the movie. Not just that, Shahrukh reportedly also registered all the names that sounds even remotely like “Robots“. The news is that now Shankar has renamed the movie as Enthiram.

Exit Shahrukh and in comes Shivaji Rao Gaekwad better known as Rajnikanth, the man with a tag line of “There is nothing that Rajini-CANT“! Shankar, on his part is leaving no stone unturned as far as the shooting of the movie is concerned. Recently, he shot for a song with the stunning of Rajini-Ash at the UNESCO declared world famous heritage site Machu Pichhu. With this, Shankar takes the man responsible for shooting the first Indian movie here! Whoever said that ostriches are not desirable will surely eat their words out, after they have a look at Aishwarya who looks simply awesome with those ostrich feathers in the adjoining photo!

Not just that, news also has it that Shankar will be shooting for his movie in the most desirable dream locations like South America, Peru etc… One wonders will Shahrukh’s loss be Rajni’s gain? Well, is that a question to be asked. What do you say guys!

Golmaal Returns - Music Review

Rating: ***

2 years back, Golmaal was just another comedy multi starrer that had hit the screens and turned into a success. Circa 2008 and suddenly one finds its sequel, Golmaal Returns, being elevated to the status of being a potential blockbuster. Reasons are aplenty:

a) The first installment of Golmaal is still afresh in the mind of cine goers and is being appreciated in it's satellite and DVD run.

b) The sequel looks bigger and better with Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd, becoming a formidable force in the passage of time. Coming in of Kareena Kapoor, Celina Jaitley, Amrita Arora and Anjana Sukhani has only added to the star quotient of the film.

c) The film is mounted at a much bigger scale, something which is pretty much on display courtesy 'dhamakedaar' promos

d) Director Rohit Shetty now has three successful films to his credit, though at varied degree, in the form of Sunday, Golmaal and Zameen. The young director is truly one of the top 'masala' filmmakers we have today.

e) Last but certainly not the least, past 18 months gone by have truly belonged to Pritam. 2008 has been phenomenal with Race, Singh Is Kinng, Jannat and Kismat Konnection.

No wonder, Golmaal Returns is being looked as the next BIG winner for Pritam. With Sameer as the writing partner, Pritam can't really afford to go wrong on this big project.

So does he deliver?

Pretty much so! Golmaal Returns has the kind of music which goes as per Shetty's sensibilities of 'action packed score' and Pritam does well in giving a 'Race' feel to the proceedings that ensures that listeners have their hands full of playing one more rip roaring score which is going to blaze on well in fast moving cars, dance floors and pubs.

No, don't expect any soothing melodies that Pritam has earlier composed for Jannat or Life... In A Metro. Here he goes holds-no-bar and comes up with a 'dhinchaak' score which is good enough for Shetty to create eye catching visuals that would surely attract audience into the theaters!

Cards are laid out wide open at the very onset with 'Tha Kar Ke' which surprisingly has a newbie composer Ashish Pandit at the helm of affairs.

Even though this dance number has a trademark Pritam sound to it with regular Neeraj Shridhar behind the mike, 'Tha Kar Ke' is mainly credited to Ashish Pandit who does a fantastic job in coming up with a chartbuster number that just can't go wrong. Shot on a lavish scale, this 'let's get rocking' song has Anvesha, Aakariti, Earl and Indie providing Neeraj some very good support which keeps his Hit record intact.

The number boasts of some lavish arrangements and with a huge orchestra supporting the tune, the 'remix version' turns out to be even funkier and makes you head for that dance floor pronto!

Nostalgia of Vishal-Shekhar's title song 'Golmaal' (sung by Anushka Manchanda) is back with the number 'Vacancy' which uses the punch word 'Golmaal' that is amalgamated well into the tune created by Pritam.

The number takes on exactly from where 'Tha Kar Ke' left and sees coming together of English as well as Hindi lyrics. Yet again, the number boasts of a full-on arrangement which leave hardly a pause in the entire 5 minute duration.

With Neeraj Shridhar leading the charge yet again, the number (with Sameer, Neeraj Shridhar and Ashish Pandit coming together for the lyrics) also features Benny, Suhail and Suzi Q who keep the racy mood intact for Golmaal Returns and ensures that it would scale up the charts. The 'Kilogram Remix', as the name suggests, is quite a handful and successfully manages to throw its weight!

15 years back, 'Tu Saala' would have been classified as a 'chalu' number. Today, with modern day arrangements and a classy setting, this one would go down as a number which would work well both amongst the college going youngsters as well as the masses.

Don't bother too much about the lyrics here, this one again is a 'beats driven' number (expectedly appearing in a remix version too) which sees Anushka Manchanda in a different avtar altogether. Though the rhythm here is predominantly Indian, the arrangements are Western which gives it a different feel.

The number won't go as far as 'Tha Kar Ke' and 'Vacancy' but should be an eye candy on screen, courtesy all the hot-bods that Golmaal Returns boasts of.

Monali had impressed one and all in her sensual rendition of 'Touch Me Touch Me' [Race] earlier this year. In Golmaal Returns she returns along with Suzy Q for a song that has been interestingly titled 'Meow'.

A naughty number with a sensual touch to it, 'Meow' has quite some attitude to it which would truly appeal to Generation X.

With Hindi lyrics by Sameer and Neeraj Shridhar, Ashish Pandit & Indie contributing with English lyrics, 'Meow' is a Hinglish track that has the kind of sound which has almost been patented by Pritam.

Though the number does touch upon dark shades as well, it primarily remains a little quirky and is catchy enough to warrant two more versions - a full on 'English version' and a 'remix version'. One looks forward to see how the 'English version' fits into the narrative since it has quite some interesting lyrics to boast of!

To bring back the nostalgia of the Golmaal, there is also a pleasant surprise in the form of an entire soundtrack by Vishal-Shekhar from the original which is included as a part of the package.

Golmaal Returns is yet another winner from Pritam and guest composer Ashish Pandit who delivers what is expected from a soundtrack for a film belonging to action-comedy genre.

No one attempts to do anything exceptional or different from routine and walk the path that has been successful in the months gone by. The music may not go the 'Race' way but does well enough to ensure immense awareness about the film due to its fast paced approach.

Bipasha goes back to her seductress avatar!

Bips aka Bipasha Basu is all set to cast her "jaadu and nasha"on screen once again. This time it is in Sanjay Gupta's Pankh directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyay.

Interestingly, Bipasha is a mere fantasy of the 20-year-old protagonist Jerry (Maradona Rebello) and does not actually exist in the film.

Explaining the complexity of the story director Chattopadhyay said, "Bipasha is Jerry's fantasy who exists only his mind. She is his alter-ego and loves to provoke him at a drop of herhat."

Sudipto further explains, "The character of Jerry is very complexed. The film shows him as a famous child artiste who crossed dressed as a girl. Thus he is confused about his identity.

There's a song, Jiya na Jala, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, where he fantasizes Bipasha seducing him, creating confusion in his mind about his real identity whether he is a man, woman or an eunuch.

But Bipasha seduces him completely and is his sexual fantasy. Bipasha is his only solace from the ugly reality of life."

The director reveals that he and designers Rocky S and Gavin Miguel worked hard on Bipasha's look in the film.

"We wanted Bipasha to look like a Diva a la Sophia Loren and Liza Minelli in Cabaret. Also we had lengthy discussions on the scenes.

And during the shoot Bipasha got so in with her character that as if she was visible only to Jerry and completely unaware of the actor's presence on the sets. Her entire attitude and behaviour while playing the character made the entire experience very interesting."

Luck is on Aamir Khan's side?

Aamir Khan has yet again managed to get his film for the Oscars. They say luck favours the brave. We spoke to two prominent astrologists who gave their take on current planetary situations in Aamir's birthchart and what period awaits him in the near future.

Astrologist Rajeev Chitguppi's predictions -

Aamir Khan is born on 14th March 1965 has Cancer as his Ascendant as well as Rashi.

Transit: Cancer has already completed the most of Saade-saathi (saturn's cycle of 7 years) period. So great times ahead.

Dasha: He is currently running Sun dasha. In his chart sun is posited in 9th house, Pisces, whose lord is Jupiter. This indicates fame through projects and contracts overseas and attainment of higher status and eminence.

A big overseas contract is on its way. It also indicates acquiring higher level of philosophical approach in life. Sun is in Purvabhadra Nakshatra whose lord is again Jupiter.

Jupiter is well posited in Aries i.e. 10th house indicating profession. In Navamsha, Jupiter's position gets even better, i.e. Sagittarius. Mars is Aamir's yogakaraka as well as lord of profession and it is in his house of finance, Leo, a friendly house.

Now the best part - Transit Jupiter, in 2008, is aspecting all of them - 10th house, its lord and house of finance. This will ensure that 2008 is going to be a memorable year for Aamir, professionally and financially.

Antardasha: Aamir had Jupiter antardasha running till Mid 2008 which indicated very good results. Now he has a Saturn antardasha running till Mid 2009.

Saturn is in 8th house indicating that his next project will require lots of research work to be done before it takes off. Saturn is very strong as it is vargottama in moolatrikona (aquarius). This promises great success in second half of 2008 as well.

Controversies and legal problems: The Rahu-Ketu axis involving many of his prominent planets like Venus, Mars and Saturn caused several legal and political hurdles on professional front in the last 18 months. He now needs to be more cautious about his health till end of 2009.

Numerologically he is number 5 and this confirms that 2008 is indeed going to be a good year for him. Astro Numerologist Bhavikk Sanghvi -

Born on 14th March 1965, Aamir is a Number 5 (1 + 4 = 5 ) in numerology ruled by No.5 (Mercury ), No.3 (Jupiter - Pisces ) and Nos.2 and 7 (Moon and Neptune ).

(1 + 4 + 3 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 5 = 29 = 2 + 9 = 11 = 1 + 1 = 2 )

" Aamir has entered his 44th year (4 + 4 = 8 ) which is a tough number, although it will not affect him to that extent because Number 8 gels well with Number 5. But he still needs to remain cautious as he might just invite unexpected trouble and / or minor health issues " predicts Bhavikk.

Bhavikk advises him to wear a Red Coral set in gold and / or a Pearl set in silver to bring in mental peace, stop unnecessary delays in his life (whatsoever ) and to stay away from any health problems especially blood related.

I do not get much time to do films: Shamita Shetty

She is sultry, she is seductive, and more than that, she is sexy siren Shilpa Shetty's lil' sis. But lil' sis of late seems to have taken up a fun masti number in a peppy Mirchi Movies' children's film Hari Puttar --- A Comedy of Terrors starring young leaders of the bratpack, Zain Khan and Swini Khara.

A tete-a-tee with the actor on the eve of the release of Hari Puttar
A Comedy of Terrors.

You did a song for Hari Puttar… It is a fun song?
Yes, but let me clarify that it was a promotional video and not part of the movie. The producers came to me after the film was shot. I liked the concept and took it on.

How was the experience shooting with little kids?
I enjoyed every moment. The idea was very cute. And I had to dance with kids. I found it interesting and so took it up. I think it is a fun song.

The media has been terming it an item number.
It is a masti number where I play myself. The song is peppy and Punjabi -- a fun song. To term it an item number is not fine. It is a kids film.

What motivated you to do a kids film?
I have never done a kids film. I wanted to do the song as like I said, the cuteness appealed to me.

How was it working with Zain?
Zain is a good actor. It was fun working with him.

We don't see you much on the silver screen. What is reason for being selective?
I am running my production house now. And it takes up a lot of my time. I do not get much time to do films and besides, I need something that I enjoy to take it up.

It is said that Shilpa Shetty is making a film with you and Akshay Kumar in the lead roles?
I wish I get these newsbreaks before you do. No, Shilpa was never making a film with me and Akshay Kumar. These stories are made up by media.

Television. No, I haven't thought about it. I live one day a time. I don't know what the future holds for me. I would like to do a great job at what I have taken on right now. And if in the future, I get interested then well, it is a matter of that moment.

What do you feel is the USP of Hari Puttar – A Comedy of Terrors?
Why does anyone go to the theatre after buying a ticket? To be entertained. Hari Puttar – A Comedy of Terrors has that entertainment value. It is a fun film and I am sure that is one reason why everyone must see it.

Talking of kids films, one parting question. How does it feel to seeTaare Zameen Par being chosen for the Oscars?
Taare Zameen Par is a film that everybody loved. It is a brilliantly made film. I am very happy it has been chosen for the Oscars. And I am sure it will win.

Minissha Lamba is definitely sexy: Imran Khan

So what rules are you going to set for us while we watch Kidnap?
What rules do I set? You'll have to wait and see this one man! This is a really tricky film. In that I have to be very careful with every question that I answer because I might give something away.

So much of the film relies on mystery and the audiences not knowing what's going on. It's like a minefield. Every single question you ask has to be analysed.

Is the battle inevitable? Drona v/s Kidnap and Abhishek Bachchan v/s Imran Khan?
Every single Friday a film releases. There are many Friday's where three to four films are released. This comparison business is inevitable. There are more films than the weekends in the year.

There are going to be clashes, there will be films releasing on the same day, you make your film and promote it the best that you can and make sure that it is the best you can possibly make and hope for the best. That is what is going to happen when two biggies meet on October 2.

Kidnap's scripting has been in the making since five years. Don't you think that Kidnap is releasing a bit late or do you take it as a bonus after your JTYJN success?
Two things. Firstly, it's a tremendous bonus for me. It gives me a chance and a challenge to stretch myself to the limit. Nothing like it.

Secondly, when it comes to late, I don't think so. Jaane Tu also took a long time coming together. We had a lot of problem while we were making that film. The project got stuck and then it got restarted. But in spite of that the film touched success only because the product was good.

We all feel the same way about Kidnap. Certainly you have to update a few things. Now say from 2003 to 2005, few things changed. Technology changes a little bit and you have to update those little things. But the base story of the film never changes.

What did you learn from the father figure like co-star Sanjay Dutt?
I didn't learn anything from him. He doesn't preach. If you know him at all and have tracked his career, you'll come to the conclusion that he is a guy who has walked his own path. He is very much the rebel, very much the rock star.

He does it his way and the way he wants to do it. Sanju baba is not the one who is going to go around telling people how to live their lives.

Tell me something interesting about Sanjay Dutt.
Ok. Here you go. We are doing a scene together and I'll sit with my dialogues for 45 minutes before I get ready.

I'll march up and down the stairs doing rehearsals and reciting my lines this way - that way, taking a pause here and there. Sanju baba will walk on the sets and the assistant director will hand over the dialogues to him. He will sit and read through it once.

We then do the scene where I say my lines and he'll say his line and look at me with sheer intensity that I forget the rest of my lines. Such is the weight of this actor. The gravity he brings with him shocks you.

The cute Minissha Lamba is out and the sexy Minissha Lamba is in. What say?
Definitely she is sexy. But having said that, she is not a damsel in distress. There is a major confrontation scene between me and Minissha. She is not a girl who is kidnapped.

She is very much Sanjay Dutt's daughter. She is fearless and fights back with a vengeance. Sanjay Dutt's character is like a very tough and a fearless guy. Like father like daughter.

She doesn't submit that easily and looks for a way out to escape, she looks for a way to hurt the kidnapper, etc. Yes, a tough and a sexy Minissha for the first time on screen.

Tell us a bit about the tattoo you sport in the film.
That's a permanent tattoo. I got it when I was seventeen. I've had it for years. It's just that in Jaane Tu, it didn't suit my character. We tried to cover it with make up and my costumes.

That's why I was seen wearing lots of collared t-shirts in the film. The shot where you see my tattoo in the trailer was in fact the last scene we shot for the film. It was the last day of the shooting and we shot it in the middle of the night.

After that shot, it was pack up. The film was over. Sanjay Gadhvi decided to use the tattoo because he knew that it was covered and hidden in Jaane Tu. He liked the look of the tattoo and he thought that it would add to the character of the kidnapper.

Were you hesitant to play a kidnapper knowing your chocolate boy looks?
I was a little hesitant to play a kidnapper. I mean, I loved the character but was a bit unsure. But at the same time I really wanted to do it.

It was a tricky role and was tough too because I couldn't find a common ground with this guy. In Jaane Tu, the guy was so much like me. I understood him very well. In Kidnap, I was fumbling and trying to hold things together.

In this tough time, Sanjay Gadhvi helped me through this. I wouldn't have been able to do this role without his support and backing.

Tell us about the time when you thought that Kidnap was not going to be made?
The entire film took about 12 months of shooting time. It took a year because Sanju went in the jail mid way. We thought the film was not going to be made now.

We had shot for about five months and we were in middle of one major shoot with Minissha and me when we got the news that the judgement had come out and that Sanju was jailed. Suddenly everything stops.

We didn't know what was going to happen. I am panicking as it was just my second film. It was Minissha's big film too and it was Sanjay Gadhvi's dream project. Plus the producers made a huge investment too. So all of us were sitting there and went mute.

We asked each other, What do we do? What next? The worst thing was that there was no body who could take Sanju's place. There were no options available. The only thing you could do was just sit and pray and hope that he comes out.

Is Kidnap a lot of burden on your shoulders than Jaane Tu?
I wasn't nervous during Jaane Tu at all. This time I am very nervous because I don't know how I have done my role. I have not seen the film and have only seen my parts during dubbing. I don't know if it's good and I don't know if people will think it's good.

Why are you growing your beard then?
Oh! This look while you are interviewing me is for Delhi Belly. I am growing my beard and growing my hair for the role. I have to keep growing it until I hear back from my director. So everyday I go to my director and say whether it's enough and he says, 'No'.
