Denise and Kareena have one thing in common, they both are sexy: Akshay Kumar

Denise and Kareena have one thing in common, they both are sexy: Akshay KumarWhat makes Akshay Kumar so vulnerable and unpredictable sometimes is the fact that no one knows how his mood for the day is going to be.

He may come across as a bizarre one answering questions in one line or may come across as a completely funny man talking nonsense and still making sense. You never know with this 'Khiladi' because he loves playing games with the media, fans and even the opposite sex, like in his recent film Kambakkht Ishq.

So in order to trace what mood and mode this six feet two inch personality was actually in, Devansh Patel followed the actor to Mumbai's Sun N Sand Hotel where the suave star was busy giving his broadcast interviews with some sexy ladies, trying to flirt his way to the top in his trademark style.

In this short interview, Akki talks about the extrovert Simrita (Kareena's screen name), his long lost co-star Aftab Shivdasani, fun being an incompatible couple, his lean figure, his sometimes violent fans and why he would also do films like 8 X 10 Tasveer besides his comic capers.

What happens when you meet an extrovert like Simrita?
(After nearly two minutes of silence) I'd actually be offended. I'd not like to speak to that person and just walk off. I'd never try to be near her at all.

Kambakkht Ishq looks like a mad comic capers you've done in the past like Deewane Huye Paagal and Awara Paagal Deewana.
Not at all. First of all, it's not a comic caper. It's a romantic comedy. Yes, it has many comic moments but it's also got love infused in it.

Too much of romance is there in the film. It's all about one-upmanship between the two sexes and who is dominant. It's a superiority complex. The kind of dialogues we have with each other is the kind of dialogues you will relate to.

Somewhere or the other it'll remind you of the similar type of conversation you've had with a woman in your life. There aren't many films of such nature which are being made in Hindi cinema. I believe that Men are from Mars and Women are from Heaven.

It looks like Kambakkht Ishq is a complete overseas package in the way it's shot and with Hollywood action heroes adoring the Bollywood space.
I don't know about the overseas package. It sounds very shallow that a film is only made for the overseas population. Yes, it's got Hollywood actors in it and may appeal to the public in the West but it's an Indian film for the world to see.

It's a film which I've enjoyed doing because of the script. I'm playing a Hollywood stuntman and all the Hollywood actors are a part of my life in the film. That's the reason they are there in the film and not to package it as an international release.

You've worked with Aftab Shivdasani in Awara Pagal Deewana. How is Affy now after you've last seen him a good, four to five years ago?
Affy can play these kinds of roles very easily like he played in Awara Pagal Deewana. He fits the 'bechara', 'pyaar ka maara' type of roles very well. You feel sorry for his character in the film. He is very true to his character in whichever film he performs. I loved him in Kasoor where he played an obsessed lover along side Lisa Ray. He was superb in the film.

What's the fun in being an incompatible couple?
The fun is what women think about men and what men think about women. We just say it openly about it. We curse each other which is great. We pull our leg, disagree with every word we say and that's fun.

Lean and fit is your fitness statement. You're fit at 40 unlike others who're still pumping iron to stay in shape.
I don't think that's right. I believe in having an athletic body more than a bulkier body. I am too natural when it comes to fitness. I do not pick up weights. Obviously, a body like me does help in terms of an action film and stunts. Most of my stunts are performed by me because of this athletic body. If I had bulging biceps, I could only bash somebody up.

Why is there so much expectation surrounding your release always?
Because my fans expect a lot of fun and entertainment from Akshay Kumar. They've seen me in my last five years doing mad comedy

. That's the reason why. They come in search of masala, they come in search of laughter, they come in search of emotions here and there and they've got everything to take back home with them after watching my comic films.

And when they didn't get 8 X 10 Tasveer, they got disappointed. No masti, fun, laughter. I need to do different films to get into a different mode. Films like 8 X 10 Tasveer satisfy me as an actor. I'm very proud of Nagesh.

What about your fans? They just don't love you. I'm sure they've got a bit violent sometimes?
Oh yes. Fans in the overseas can get violent sometimes, especially women fans. They pounce on you with their long nails scratching you behind your neck. It's happened to me quite a few times now when I've visited the US or the UK.

Of course, I don't argue with Twinkle when I go back home with such scratch marks made by my female fans. I also remember the time when my hands were bleeding when I shook hands with a female fan.

She had a blade in between her fingers which you can't see. Such are some fans. Some love to hate me I guess. But realistically, I believe that that's the way some of the fans show love to you.

Which is your favourite Sylvester Stallone film you've seen?
I like his last Rocky film. He was absolutely fantastic in it. I didn't ask him which film he had seen of mine because I was too ashamed of asking that question as I suspected the answer to be 'No'.

Did you guys hang around after the shoot was over? Denise, you, Kareena, Sylvester, Brandon?
No, we didn't hang around together. In Hollywood, you just work. But yes, we did chat a lot. Denise was more interested in knowing about India. I also mentioned to her that India is a Bollywood crazy country but I told her that people will go to the theaters to watch Kambakkht Ishq more than the English films she has been a part of.

Sometimes you have to Kiss, so why make such a big fuss: Deepika Padukone

Sometimes you have to Kiss, so why make such a big fuss: Deepika PadukoneDeepika Padukone is four films old but too young when it comes to working with her male co-stars. All the actors, with whom she has worked with, except Ranbir Kapoor, are almost fifteen years older to her, which takes us back to our first meeting with Miss Padukone in London during her red carpet arrival for the premiere of Om Shanti Om.

She was wearing a sexy red dress and painted the Leicester Square red. Back to aaj, she has matured in love and how. We see her in a lovey-dovey pink to promote her upcoming film Love Aaj Kal in front of a packed Indian media.

A suburban girl who shot to fame as a supermodel and then to super stardom as SRK's lover in Om Shanti Om, Deepika has now moved up the ladder in Bollywood playing lover girl in all her films. Love Aaj Kal being the fourth. Life's just kind of perfect at the moment.

For someone whose name and visage have been used to sell everything from lingerie, to jewellery to chewing gums, Deepika doesn't seem at all preoccupied with her image. Padukone seems totally comfortable with all her many roles. In some moments, she sounds like a typical plate-spinning working mom, concerned about getting healthy meals on the table for her kids, till you realize that she is still single.

A woman who gives a firm 'no-no' to live in relationships is more than willing to settle down and look after her husband once she gets married. Devansh Patel meets the immortal figure who believes in having three guidelines when it comes to love: Be happy with what you have, keep things simple and go with the flow.

Four films old
"The journey has been wonderful. Everyone's way of acting, everyone's style of acting, everyone's approach, etc. has been wonderful. Two out of my four co-stars are also producers. Saif was very kind and polite. Somewhere the nawab in him came out because of his London education. He is a royal man and deserves everything royal."

Luck factor
"I hope I bring the same luck to Saif Ali Khan as I did to Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om. Love Aaj Kal will go down as one of the most special films for me, irrespective of what the outcome is and what people are going to think."

Compliment from Saif
"It's a huge compliment from Saif if he has compared me to Rani Mukherjee. Something like this is an honour coming from Saif. In fact, I have learnt a lot from him. The fact that he is so experienced and his style is so natural makes you want to work with him again. I really look up to that kind of a performance. I've been a big fan of his right from Dil Chahta Hai."

Co-stars
"I don't feel any age difference. In fact I feel secure with my co-stars who are so experienced. It's great for someone like me who is so new and has absolutely no background from this industry. All my co-stars have been giving and supportive and that in turn has a tremendous role in the way I perform on screen."

On Imtiaz Ali
"Imtiaz Ali is a genius. He is so sensitive to people's performances and people in general. As an actor, I think it's nice to have a director who understands my approach to a scene. Saif and I are so different from each other as actors. It's nice to have a director who can bring that together on screen and get that good performance out of us."

Kareena controversy
"Whenever I was on the sets shooting, I didn't see Kareena anywhere near me. I don't know when she has come and when she has gone.

She must've come when I had my days off, I hope. I'm sure she understands that it's not possible for a director to work with the same co-star again and again. It's great that you've had a hit film with a certain director. It's absolutely untrue that there is any sort of discomfort between the two of us or any form of negativity.

She knows she is brilliant and she has done a great job in Jab We Met. I guess Imtiaz was damn sure of whom he wanted to cast in Love Aaj Kal."

Reel life to real life
"I'm a perfect blend of Love Aaj and Love Kal. I'm practical in real life though. As an actor when you do a film, two things can happen, either the role you're playing is very different from who you are in real life or it is very similar to the person you are off screen.

It's spooky how similar Meera's character is to me in Love Aaj Kal. I think 90% of the film and the way I react in certain situations is the way I'd in real life."

Love yesterday and Love today
"I believe that long distance love lasts. I think different people deal with relationships differently. Their definition may be different but at the end of the day, love exists. Different relationships go through different ups and downs.

But when you sit together and have a chat about it, everyone will have the same thing to say. Earlier couples used to take hours writing letters and today it can happen in a few seconds by you sending an SMS to your loved one.

Times have changed but the love remains the same, the feeling remains the same. Meetings these days are a lot easier. You can still stay connected with your loved one via a web cam on your computer. Earlier you'd have to travel for miles to see each other."

Live in relationship or getting married
"I am someone who completely believes in falling in love and settling down. I'm not for live in relationships. If I get married, my house and my husband is my number one priority.

I tackle my relationship with Ranbir very well. It's not the easiest thing to do but it takes two secure people to deal with things like that. I've been able to do that."

Lip lock moment
"Sometimes when you decide to do something, like a kissing scene in the film, you just do it because you feel its right. I think the scene was necessary for the film and I believed in it. I do not have to take permission from anyone.

I've been able to separate my personal life from my professional life and hope to keep it that way for a long time. It's time to get real. Everyone's aware of these kinds of things on screen. Even the kids know about it. So why make such a big fuss?"

Zor Lagaa Ke…Haiya - Movie Review

Zor Lagaa Ke…HaiyaStarring: Mithun Chakraborthy, Mahesh Manjrekar, Riya Sen, Gulshan Grover, Seema Biswas, Ashwin Chitale, Ayesha Kaduskar, Meghan Jadhav, Ritwik Tyagi and Hardik Thakkar
Director: Girish Girija Joshi
Rating: ***

Four kids staying in the same building – Laddu (Hardik), Priya (Ayesha), Ritesh (Ritwik) and Karan (Meghan) feel threatened by a beggar staying near their building. They nickname him Ravan for his scary appearance.

Forever intrigued by the bag he always carry with him, the four friends devise various plans to steal it and find out what is inside it but all their plans fail as Ravan (Mithun) outsmarts them every time. Finally they decide upon building a small tree house in their building compound so that through it they can keep a watch on Ravan who stays on the road across their building.

Ram (Ashwin) who works as a labourer on the upcoming new constructions in their complex, comes to their aid and helps them build this tree house. But after many more attempts on stealing Ravan’s bags, the five kids end up being friends with Ravan and their tree house starts becoming the night abode for him.

But, danger comes in form of ruthless builder Bakshi (Gulshan Grover) who decides to raze the tree for making way for a new gate in front of it for his commercial purposes. He takes aid of Gupta (Mahesh Manjrekar) his contractor on the site. How the five kids with the help of the homeless Ravan give a fight to Gupta and his cronies to save their tree forms the rest of the film.

While there was always a risk of sounding preachy when films carry a strong message, debutante director Girish has successfully managed to avoid that by subtly yet strongly incorporating his message through a neatly woven screenplay.

The best thing about Zor Lagaa Ke is that the children in the film behave their age unlike typical filmy kids and their behaviour in this film is definitely relatable. Girish and his writer’s team have come up with some really good emotional moments especially in the second half.

The lighter moments, such as the Superheroes, Mahabharat and Sarkar take offs have been imaginatively woven. The various tricks employed by Ravan and the five kids to shove away Bakshi and Gupta from cutting their tree house are simply hilarious.

But the big twist in the climax is the master stroke. Bapi Tutul’s music is melodious with some real good lyrics by Amitabh Verma with the pick of the lot being Sapnon Ka… number. Most importantly none of the songs hamper the pace of the film.

The film deserves full marks in the acting department. Each single kid has leaves you very impressed with his/her endearing act.

While Ashwin Chitale the child star of India’s Oscar entry Shwaas is simply superb in emotional moments, the burly Hardik and also Meghan, Ayesha and Ritwik enact their parts naturally. Mahesh Manjrekar is the most entertaining amongst the adults.

The constant bearing he has maintained of his mannerisms is howlarious. Seema Biswas is remarkable as usual. Gulshan Grover is menacingly good. Riya Sen manages a cute cameo. But it is Mithun who towers over the film with his absolutely brilliant acting.

This old war horse has proved yet again that if you give him a good role and a nice script and he will show you why he is such a multi National Award winning actor.

Zor Lagaa Ke…Haiya is a film for you and your children and of course the child in you, so just don’t miss it. Very rarely sensitive yet entertaining children’s films are made in India. It is a fine effort by debutante director Girish Girija Joshi and deserves a huge applause.

Karma - Crime Passion Reincarnation - Movie Review

Karma - Crime Passion ReincarnationRating: *1/2

Recall Chetan Anand's Raaj Kumar - Rajesh Khanna - Vinod Khana - Hema Malini starrer KUDRAT. The film has tremendous recall value for various reasons, especially the lilting musical score ['Hume Tumse Pyaar Kitna, Yeh Hum Nahin Jaante' and other lilting tracks], besides a gripping storyline.

KARMA - CRIME, PASSION, REINCARNATION seems inspired by KUDRAT, but the problem is that the film doesn't have the power to hold your attention after an interesting start. At best, it works in bits and patches, that's it!

Vikram [Carlucci Veyant], estranged and separated from his father Ranvir [Vijayendra Ghatge], for the past thirty years, visits him in Ooty with his bride Anna [Alma Saraci] from New York at her insistence, but only for a day or two.

The moment Anna alights from the train that brings them to the small town, she unwittingly becomes the medium of events including visions of a murder that took place in the woods thirty years ago.

Even though Anna had never set foot in Ooty, leave alone India before, she seems very familiar with the surroundings and even some people. Anna begins to questions some people who then see her as a threat.

The nightmares occur more frequently and with more specificity. At first, Vik accuses Anna of having some ingrained psychological problems, which hurts Anna deeply, but when strange inexplicable events happen to Vik himself, he apologizes to Anna.

Vik resolves to help Anna and when it is discovered that a murder had indeed taken place thirty years ago and together they try to solve the mystery.

The spirit of Linda [Claudia Ciesla], raped and murdered thirty years ago, reincarnated as Anna, leads Anna and Vik to the discovery of the identity of the murderer.

Director M.R. Shahjahan has handled a few sequences well. The sequences involving Alma Saraci specifically raises the bar. The portions make an eerie impact and enhance your interest in the subject. But the culmination to the story -- which is so vital in this case -- falls like a pack of cards.

The viewer can sense, much before the film has ended, who the culprit is, which is bad news for any thriller. Also, the flashback portions are just not convincing.

Alma Saraci and Carlucci Veyant, the principal stars, enact their parts well, especially Alma. Claudia Ciesla gets no scope. Vijayendra Ghatge is as usual.

On the whole, KARMA - CRIME, PASSION, REINCARNATION appeals in parts, but that's not enough.

Salman is not my boyfriend: Claudia Ciesla

Salman is not my boyfriend: Claudia CieslaGerman supermodel-turned-actress Claudia Ciesla, who is considering a Bollywood career, has rubbished rumours that she is dating Indian superstar Salman Khan and insists that Katrina Kaif is his girlfriend.

"Salman and I are just good friends. He is not my boyfriend, as has been reported here. Everyone knows that it's Katrina Kaif who is his girlfriend and not me. I haven't even been that long in India to start controversies, " Claudia, 22, told in an interview.

She was in the capital to promote her film "Karma: Crime, Passion, Reincarnation".

"Everything (rumours) started when I was in Europe. I couldn't even keep track of it because I was busy over there. But now I hope everything is clear... even Salman had clarified everything in interviews and I am doing the same, " she added.

A leading daily here had reported that the model was the actor's new muse and reason behind the Salman-Katrina split.

The occasional singer, who has already cut two albums, also conceded that she understands "it all happens when you are in showbiz". She says rumour mills started working overtime after Salman invited her to his place.

"The only thing was that he invited me to meet his family. Even Katrina was there and they made me feel most welcome, " said Claudia, who was on her fifth trip to India since January 2008.

But the negative reports haven't stopped her from praising Salman.

"Salman is a wonderful person. He is very gentle and polite. He and his father gave me a lot of advice for my Bollywood career. Even Katrina and I spent a lot of time together and she gave me a lot of advice. She told me about her career and how she learnt Hindi. It was amazing. I respect her a lot for that, " she said.

On being asked if Salman promised her to find work in Bollywood, she said: "Salman didn't promise me nothing. Why should he?"

Her film "Karma: Crime, Passion, Reincarnation", directed by M.R. Shahjahan, won prestigious awards at the Spain and Greece film festivals and was also premiered at Cannes.

The film is a dramatic thriller about an Austrian girl (Claudia) who is raped and murdered during her visit to India in the 1970s and how she reincarnates and comes back to the same place after 30 years.

"I am seriously thinking about coming into Bollywood. After the rainy season, I'm planning to stay here for a long time...I'll rent an apartment in Mumbai and even start taking Hindi lessons, " she said.

She has already worked in Italian and German sitcoms, German-Indian collaboration "Ki Jana Pardes" (Punjabi), and Bengali movie "10:10".

Claudia says she has three Bollywood offers in hand and that she is coming out with two music albums respectively in German and English.
