Rituparna Sengupta’s connection with SRK

Rituparna Sengupta and Shah Rukh Khan may not be crossing their paths as far as films are concerned, but they sure are linked in away. Tut tut! Don’t get any ideas, now. Here’s what we mean… The Bengali beauty is doing a film called SRK with Vinay Pathak. It’s a Wraner Brothers film in which Rituparna plays the lead role. Anyway, the only thing anyone knows is the name of the film since what the film is all about is a guarded secret that even Warner Brothers are not revealing. This is not where Rituparna’s connection with SRK ends. She was recently invited for the IPL Match, by the King Khan himslef (he owned the Kolkata Knights Riders, remember?) and they both spent a very good time together during the match. Then after the match SRK went to a thalassemia organization to spend time with thalassemic kids on Rituaparn’s request and invitation. Back to films now, apart from SRK Rituparna is also doing a film called Dard E Disco, being directed by Ashok Tyagi. The name should remind you of the song from SRK’s Om Shanti Om! Of course, once in the past Rituparna revealed a wish to work with SRK. But looks like for the time being she will have to be happy with the names only. But then maybe she will do a film with him someday!

When Salman Khan taught Preity Zinta

The promos of the multi-starrer film, Heroes have begun flashing on every channel and one can see Preity Zinta driving a tractor in one shot. Not many are aware that Preity was petrified of driving that tractor when that sequence was to be shot.

A source informed, “Preity’s character in the film is of Salman’s wife who is shown as a simple farmer who later goes on to join the army. She features in a no make-up look in the film. It was very important for her character to be shown driving the tractor easily as it would lead authenticity to her character. But the problem was she was simply not ready to do that. The director of the film, Samir Karnik kept on insisting, while she kept on putting her foot down. Until, Salman came to know about it. Salman then came upto her and assured her that in just two days he would train her well to drive the tractor perfectly. Preity agreed and then actually in two days time, she was driving the tractor in the Punjab fields like a pro!”

How did Salman know to drive it so well? The Khans have a huge farm in Panvel, near Mumbai and Salman often visits it. They have a tractor there and he for fun rides it around

Rs.22 Crore is the cost of Drona’s villian

Gone are the days when all the money went into re-formation of the hero and his dynasty. Bollywood is finally going to witness its most expensive villain ever in the form of actor Kay Kay Menon. Nearly Rs.22 crore has been spent on his character, ‘Ritz’. The cost included the villain’s castle, special effects, his troops, his costumes and other props.

Generally, a villain is not so much worked upon but in ‘Drona’, ‘Ritz’ is a very mighty and strong character. He bestows the correct meaning of super power and to construct this character on screen has cost the director, ‘Goldie Behl’ a proper fortune.

Kay Kay or Ritz’s den created in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is one of the most expensive cities in the world. A huge castle was hired there to make it the empire of the villain.

The interiors of the castle are in the shape of a well and the look was recreated in Mumbai’s Film City with the help of 100 workers for over two weeks. Also, 200 people were hired to play Ritz’s troops and they shot for two months in Prague.

It can be recalled that before Drona, Bollywood’s most expensive villains were Shakaal from the 1980 film Shaan and Mogambo from Mr India, which was a hit in 1987. They were also expensive villains due to their unique look and the set-up of their respective dens.

It was irresistible when Maxim approached me: Gul Panag

Lo and behold - Gul Panag has gone chic and how! Though in real life she has been a bindaas woman all these years in spite of being a part of so-called serious films like DHOOP, DOR and MANORAMA - SIX FEET UNDER, on print she has rarely gone the whole hog in projecting a sensual image. However, she has gone ahead and done what is hardly-unthinkable for her by getting into a dare-bare shoot for MAXIM.

“I have always done things my own way and it was irresistible when the magazine approached me to get down to my night suit. Did I feel awkward about doing so? Nope, not at all. What’s there at all to feel awkward about? I have never felt odd driving an Enfield or a F1 car for Renault or picking up the kind of projects I believe in. It was the same in case of this shoot as well. I was promised a lot of fun and though some may be getting shocked with my dare-bare poses, my message to them is that ‘Hey you there, I am like that only’”, says Gul in a rapid tone while being mighty excited about the kind of response that her shoot is fetching for her.

Says Anup Kutty from Maxim, “A very simple reason for putting Gul on the cover is the fact that she’s stunningly beautiful. Plus, she occupies a space in Indian cinema that not many share. She has done some critically acclaimed roles and still can carry off a “sexy” look with complete ease. In short, she’s a real woman of substance and probably the best thing that could happen to a man!

The shoot in itself was a lot of fun.”

How did the shoot go?

Reveals Anup, “We booked a suite at the Le Meridien and ordered a bottle of champagne to go with it. More than anything, it was just one big party!”

Gul agrees, “Yes, it was indeed one huge party out there. It was nice to be working with some real chilled out guys who belong to your own age group. I got such a comfort feel while working on the assignment and the results are there to be seen. Believe me, I truly felt beautiful as the shutter bags went on.”

Imran Khan’s martial arts avatar in Luck

After Kidnap it is once again action time for Imran Khan in Soham Shah (Kaal) directed Luck. The young star is back from shooting Luck in Cape Town after a very long schedule.

According to our sources, “Imran has a lot of fighting sequences in the film and most of it includes martial arts. He was assigned a special trainer for the same before leaving for the long schedule of Luck. But as he got busy promoting Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na after it released to packed houses, he had little time on his hands to give it to his martial arts training sessions. Imran landed in Cape Town without proper training. But the makers had already arranged a special trainer for him on his arrival. So Imran spent a lot of hours daily practicing martial arts to bring perfection for his action steps. He also worked out a lot on his physique for his role in this particular film. It is learnt that the next schedule of Luck is going to take place in December but so fascinated has Imran been with his martial arts training that he wishes to continue with the same till the next schedule begins so that he is well prepared that time.”

Luck is Soham Shah’s second film post Kaal. It has Kamal Hassan’s daughter Shruti Hassan debuting opposite Imran. The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty, Ravi Kissen and Danny Denzongpa in the main villain’s role

Billoo Barber release date postponed to 2009

Rajnikanth starrer Tamil film Kuselan’s flopping has definitely affected Shah Rukh Khan. Not to take any chances, he has decided to push ahead his produced film, Billoo Barber (based on the same Malayalam film that Kuselan was) to February 2009.

Sources tell us, “Billoo Barber was confirmed for a Diwali 2008 release but its now going to come anytime between January end to mid February. There are two songs to be shot and also there are some scenes that are being re-shot. This re-shooting is being especially done to avoid mistakes that Kuselan had. The film was not well received by even the most ardent of Rajnikanth fans. SRK doesn’t want the same to happen to his film. He is also making sure the length of his film is not very long like Kuselan (180 minutes) was.”

“One more reason for the postponement is that Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi directed by Aditya Chopra is slated for a December 12th release. SRK doesn’t want to bring both his films almost together and end up over exposing himself. We all know how much SRK goes all out of his way to promote his films. It may result in two much too soon for him if he brings both films in a gap of weeks and SRK knows it well. The industry talk is that Adi Chopra’s film is a safer bet for SRK as his next release because Billoo Barber is unlike any previous Shah Rukh Khan starrer film. It’s a very serious film and no one can predict its fate at the box office. The Yash Raj film however marks the return of Aditya Chopra to direction after a long gap of 8 years and is much more anticipated by SRK fans than Billoo Barber.” the source adds before concluding.
