Rani Mukherjee compares Sherlyn Chopra with Sophia Lauren

In a profession that witnesses ugly cat fights due to cut throat competition, Rani Mukherjee has taken the first step of complimenting a co-artist for her performance. She surprised Sherlyn Chopra, who has a major role to play in the yet untitled Yash Raj Films production, by not just lending her tips on how to face the camera but also comparing her with none other than Hollywood legend Sophia Lauren! The incident happened recently at BPCL Sports Club where the film, which stars Shahid Kapoor as the male lead, was being shot. Rani was in a particularly happy mood and showered praises on the girl who has not signed any other project than this Yash Raj film and is riding her luck on this single film. She went ahead and called Sherlyn as a younger version of Hollywood legend Sophia Lauren. Since few years back, Bipasha Basu was compared with Sophia Lauren, Sherlyn was naturally ecstatic. "Sophia Lauren comparison? Well, all I can say is that I am humbled. I think Rani has been overtly nice, but hey, who doesn't like compliments? Being someone who is so mature and serious about her work, I sincerely hope that she really meant it when she said so. I would love to keep getting feedback and compliments from an actor of her stature", smiles Sherlyn. The 1934 born Sophia Loren is an Academy Award-winning Italian film actress. She is widely considered to be the most popular Italian actress of her time and is also famous for being a major international sex symbol. Moreover, for the shooting of a particular sequence, even though Rani Mukherjee was not required, she still hung around to see the way Sherlyn approached her scene. Informs a source, "Sherlyn didn't have any clue that Rani was watching her on the monitor, especially for her close up shots. She was engrossed in her performance and was later told by one of the production unit members that Rani was very interested in knowing how she was delivering." The 'bindaas' and 'outrageous' young woman is happy that she was oblivious of Rani's presence on the sets. "Thank goodness, that I came to know about it later because I would have been conscious had I known earlier that Rani was following what I was doing. You never know, I may not have delivered my natural best", says Sherlyn who is looking at reinventing her career while leaving the disappointment of Red Swastik (2007) behind. As per a source from the production unit, Rani was watching Sherlyn's close up shots with keen interest as she is apparently quite fond of her never ending desire to learn the nuances of the art of portraying emotions. In fact, Rani also gave her tips on how to face the camera and explained to her how important it is to know technical details of the varied camera lenses. "Sherlyn was glad that Rani was spending so much of quality time in discussing technical nuances with her", informs the source, "Sherlyn has done only a few films but Rani has been around for so long. She is a reigning star and for someone like her to spend time with her says volumes about her humbleness and professionalism. She was being a friend as well as a mentor, a good combination indeed. Who wouldn't want to learn from a senior actor like her?"

Old is gold for Rani Mukerji

It’s old is gold for Rani Mukerji.

An outfit she wore for Zee Cine Awards on March 26, 2005 (above left), at Excel, Docklands in East London, was pulled out for her yoga teacher Payal Gidwani’s wedding to Manish Tiwari this week (above right).

The dress is no different but Rani surely has shrunk, though for the sexier. In fact, her fitness instructor Satya recently claimed that Rani has the best body in Bollywood now.

Rani unlucky at home

On her astrologer's advise Rani Mukerji has reportedly decided to move out of her bungalow in Juhu and buy a flat somewhere in Versova, an area she lived in when he career was prospering.

Rani shifted to her Juhu bungalow last year but ever since then her career has only gone downhill. Her last couple of films have been miserable flops and she is now working in only one movie. This is in sharp contrast to the success she enjoyed just a few years ago.

Her astrologer has told her to shift out of her bungalow for sometime, as it could be the house that’s bringing her bad luck.

Rani's new found kick-ass figure

After being criticized for her out of shape self, Rani has finally managed to achieve a leaner frame and all this with the help of good old friend Aamir. Just when Rani Mukherjee was struggling badly to lose weight, good friend Aamir came to her rescue. Rani has always been struggling to look slim, from strict diets to regular working out regimes; Rani has tried all she could to fight flab but all her attempts failed. And that's when Aamir suggested his personal trainer Stayajit Chaurasia's name to Rani. Satyajit Chaurasia played a major part in helping Aamir achieve the eight-pack abs look for Ghajini. Being impressed by his work Aamir suggested Rani to hire Satya as her personal trainer. And as they say, hard work pays, after working out an hour every day for two months, Rani has been able to lose oodles of weight and look the way she has always wished for. The all new Rani did a cameo in Aditya Chopra's Rab Ne…in a song with Shah Rukh Khan. Her new slim look had the audience in awe and reminded one of her Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai days. Katrina Kaif - Her first release of the year was Race-an Abbas Mastaan thriller with lots of enjoyable twists and turns. Katrina is paired with Akshaye khanna, while Saif and Bipasha are aso there in the cast. Katrina plays the soft decent cute secretary of Saif who adores Saif and is with him through thick and thin and how in the climax turns out to be the bad mans fiancee and how she backstabs Saif. This film did really well in the boxoffice and was said to be a hit. her next film was Singh is King which was a super hit in the box office and Katrina is paired with Akshay kumar and inspite of the story revolving around a punjabi villager who comes to town and all the misadventours that happen and he ends up to become the Australian underworld king, Katrina's role is worth a watch. Her third film of the year was Hello where she is paired opposite her beau Salman in the entire film her role was only for a few minutes. So it was her guest appearance in the film and the film too dint do well in the box office. Katrina's fourth and the last film of this year was Subhash Ghai's Yuvvraaj where again she is seen with Salman in the film. Anil Kapoor and Zayed are also included in the cast. Katrina gave a good performance but the film in all did not do well. So Katrina managed to get two hits and two flops in the year. Kareena Kapoor - Started her year 2008 with Tashan which did not do well in the boxoffice.The film was produced by Aditya Chora and Yash Chopra under Yash Raj films. Akshay, Anil, Kareena and Saif were appreciated for their performances. The film was not for intellectuals or for people looking for a perfect script, as it was nothing new. Kareena looked glamourous in a bikini. On the day of its release, the film opened to a 75-80% response but well short of the expected bumper opening due to the multiplex revenue sharing problem, which didn't allow the film to be released in major multiplexes across India. Due to this, the film lost a major chunk of its revenue. Then came in Roadside romeo the first major computer animated film.The title character, a dog living in the city of Mumbai is voiced by Saif and his girlfriend, Laila, is voiced by Kareena. The story was about a rich dog who was abandoned on the streets of Mumbai and all the difficulties and all the dangerous characters he comes across. This film again opened with a poor response and dint do well in the boxoffice.Kareena's third and last film of the year was Golmaal Returns which was a remake of an old Bollywood comedy. Kareena plays the role of a suspicious wife of Ajay Devgan who hapens to spend one whole night out of the house with Celina Jaitely just to help her from some bad people. To hide this fact from his wife all the stories that he has to cook and all the difficulties that happen then is actually the story of the film.The film did really well and was a super hit and inspite of Kareena not having a meaty role in it she still managed to get a hit in her kitty. Priyanka Chopra -This actress has given the maximum number of release in 2008. Her first release is Love Story 2050 where she is paired opposite Harman Baweja, it was a mega budget special effects film.Priyanka's performance was not appreciated and the film crashed badly at the box office. Her next one was God Tussi Great ho opposite Salman Khan. The film was a remake of the Hollywood film Bruce Almighty.Where Salman challenges God and in return God comes down to Earth and asks him to take up his job and all the mess that happens after that. The film did not make news in the box office. This was followed by Chamku, the story of a shooter Bobby Deol and how he falls in love with Priyanka and his life changes after that.Priyanka's performance was appreciated but the film failed in the box office.Then came Drona a contemporary fantasy fable. The film was a horrific disaster. Then came Priyanka's two most awaited films of the year Fashion and Dostana.In both the films priyanka has acted brilliantly. In Fashion she plays a small town girl who comes to the city of dreams to fulfill her dreams and for that she has to pay a heavy price. In Dostana she plays a funfilled light character of being friends to John and Abhishekh.Both the films did really well in the box office giving Priyanka her much awaited hits. Rani Mukherji - Had just one film which was Thoda Pyar thoda Magic where Rani plays the role of a childlike, mischeivious, lovable angel who comes to the rescue of four orphans and their dad.The film was directed by Kunal Kohli but he was still unable to create the magic of Hum Tum.It did not do well in the box office. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan - This year Aishwarya came up with two releases Sarkar Raj and Jodhaa Akbar. In Jodhaa Akbar she was opposite Hritik Roshan. A romantic, biographical and historical movie, which was set in a era of revolt, conspiracies and war.Aishwarya looked and acted brilliantly in the film.The film did good business in India and very good buisness in the overseas. Her second flick Sarkar Raj was opposite hubby Abhishekh Bachan.It also got her critical acclaim apart from box office success. After the entire analysis of all the five actresses we come to the conclusion that Katrina Kaif is on the top of the list with two hits in a row and two flops, then in the second position its Priyanka Chopra with two hits and four flops and then its Aishwarya Rai with one hit and one flop followed by Kareena who has two flops and one hit and then comes Rani with only one release and that to a flop.

Rani Mukherjee plays a 'Sardar' in YRF's next

Yes, there have been several rumors about Rani Mukherjee's role in YRF's next directed by Anurag Singh. But the truth is finally out. Looking at the pictures above, you must've guessed by now that Rani disguises herself as a Sardar in the film. Rumour has it that Rani plays the character of a cricket enthusiast, who is obsessed with the sport, so much so that she will go to any level to play it. This obsession pushes her to disguise herself as a man and enter an all male cricket squad. Shahid Kapoor, who plays the male lead opposite Rani in the film, also seems to be a part of the cricket team. However, no official confirmation about the film's storyline has come from Yash Raj Films, hence, we'll have to wait and watch how Rani makes her way into the cricket team and how well she is at playing the sport. The New Director of Bollywood

Rani Mukerji is currently working on a Yash Raj film with first-time director Anurag Singh. The yet untitled film is based around a cricket match and stars Shahid Kapoor. Recently, the cast and crew had a schedule in Amritsar where they shot major portions of the film.

Sources reveal that Rani is quite unhappy with the way the film is shaping. It is learnt that she's taken to directing major sequences herself. A source adds, "Anurag has been an assistant to Rakesh Roshan in the past on Koyla, Karan Arjun and other films. This is his first time directing big stars like Rani and Shahid."

Apparently, Rani isn't too happy with the way Anurag lights up the scenes and with his style of working.

Onlookers from the sets reveal she often walks to the monitor checking her scenes. If she isn't satisfied, then she directs the scene herself. "There have been a couple of instances when Anurag has okayed the take, but Rani has incorporated changes on her own. However, whenever she's happy with Anurag's takes, she goes and congratulates him."

It is clear that Rani doesn't want to take a risk with a newcomer and wants to make sure the project is a success for her.

Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherji to romance each other!

It seems all the bong babes of Bollywood aspire to romance guys half their age. After Bipasha Basu wooed Ranbir Kapoor in Bachcna Ae Haseeno it’s the turn of Rani Mukherjee. The ageing beauty who’s had a spate of flops at the Box Office including Laage Chunari Mein Daag and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic will be seen with chocolatey boy Shahid Kapoor.
Although Rani and Shahid have never appeared together on screen their jodi seem to have caught the imagination of the directors. Believe it or not the two stars will be romance each other in two back to back movies. The first will be made by Rani’s on and off beau Aditya Chopra who seems to be obsessed with his lady love under the Yash Raj banner. The second will be directed by Priyadarshan.

If reports are to be believed Rani and Shahid will feature in a very bold scene in the Aditya Chopra flick. I hate being called Yashraj girl: Rani Mukherji

The insinuation that Rani is a resident Yashraj heroine has the talented actress fuming.

A source close to Rani says it takes the actress all her willpower to stop herself from bursting a blood vessel when she's referred to as the ghar ki heroine at Yashraj.

"What exactly do people mean by this?" says a source very close to Rani. "Agreed Rani has done comparatively more films with the Yashraj banner.

But that's because any heroine in Bollywood would be foolish to turn down an author-backed heroine-centric part like Laga Chunri Mein Daag. And so what if the film didn't work? She's very proud of the film and rates it among her best films."

Continues the source, "In fact Rani makes it a point to remind people that lately she did Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna, Ravi Chopra's Baghban and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya. None of these is a Yashraj film."

In fact if rumours are to be believed, Rani is on the verge of signing a couple of films that are far removed from the Yashraj banner.

"One of course is Sanjay Leela Bhansali's historical Bajirao Mastani which is far from shelved. Sanjay plans to make the film in the near future. And while the rest of the cast may change Rani as Bajirao's wife remains in place. There are other films that Rani is seriously considering, " says the source.

Says the source, "Some time ago Rani said no to Mira Nair's Namesake for emotional reasons. The excuse was dates. But Rani had her own reasons for foregoing a role that has changed Tabu's career internationally.

Today Rani is in a space were she realizes being hard-headed and business-like is what Bollywood is all about. She certainly doesn't want to be branded a Yashraj heroine."

Whispers that she acts like a hostess at Yashraj Studios are strongly denied by people close to the organization. "This is all in people's minds. Rani is at home in every production house.

Have you seen her with Karan Johar or Sanjay Bhansali? She's totally relaxed in their homes, has long chats with their mom and even goes into their kitchen at will."

At the moment Rani is in intense preparation for her cricket film with new director Anurag Singh.

Says the source, "It's being said she's agreed to work with a new director because of the banner. But hello? Rani has worked with Kunal Kohli and Shaad Ali.

Even Karan Johar was a debutant when Rani did Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.As for working with only Yashraj Kunal Kohli's Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic is entirely Kunal's production. Yashraj have only lent their name."
