Prachi Desai is new face of Neutrogena cosmetics in India !!!

Bollywood actress Prachi Desai is the new face of international cosmetics brand Neutrogena in the Indian market.

US-based pharmaceuticals company Johnson & Johnson launched Neutrogena in the Indian market Thursday, offering around 25 beauty items ranging from fairness creams, face cleansing lotions to sun protection and hand and body care products.

Speaking about the endorsement, Prachi said: "The arrival of Neutrogena in the Indian market is going to be a gift for thousands of consumers who have waited long for products that really work."

The range is meant especially for the Indian skin type and the company has been testing the product for the past two years to suit Indian skins.

"We are bringing science to the art of beauty. For the past two years, we were understanding the needs of Indian customers because we wanted to give our consumers only the best, " said Swami Raote, managing director Johnson & Johnson (J&J), at a press conference.

"We are targeting mainly women living in metro cities. Therefore, our products will be available in major Indian cities and towns, " he added.

According to a survey, the skin care market in India is around $67 billion. This is because of the fact that women have become beauty conscious over the years.

Prachi Desai to play a Muslim girl for Ekta Kapoor

Prachi Desai has been signed for Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Films to play the role of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim’s soul mate Mehjabeen in Milan Luthria’s ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai’.

Prachi will be playing a Muslim working class girl in 1975 who gets involved with a don. Prachi has done a lot of research on the role and says, “This character is from a time that existed before me. Yes I’ve done plenty of reading on my character. I want to look and feel like Mehjabeen. And it’s such a challenge. And doing a film with Balaji is like coming home. Shobha Aunty, Jeetu Uncle and Ekta are like family. I remained connected with them when I did Rock On because it was directed by Ekta’s cousin Gattu (Abhishek Kapoor). My second film Life Partner has Ekta’s brother Tusshar Kapoor as my co-star. And now I’m finally doing a Balaji production.”

Ekta and Prachi are going through all the available video footage on the lady. In fact they have been hunting through all over the Muslim localities of Mumbai last month including Haji Ali to pick up authentic salwar-kameez.

Says Prachi, “That’s true. I didn’t want to get into yet another wife’s role after Rock On and Life Partner. Come on, yaar! I’m so young. I want to have fun and I keep getting these serious roles. But playing the don’s life partner in Once Upon A Time … was a challenge that I couldn’t resist.”

Prachi Desai: Tusshar is very supportive

After making a successful transition from television to films with her role opposite Farhan Akhtar in the hit Rock On!!, Prachi Desai’s next project in Bollywood is a romantic comedy titled Life Partner, releasing in May. The young actress stars opposite Tusshar Kapoor in the film which also features Govinda, Genelia D’Souza and Fardeen Khan.

SPEAKING about her character in Life Partner and how it differs from her role as a wife in Rock On!!, Prachi says, “My character in Life Partner is very chirpy, frank and modern. Despite being a modern girl, she regards upholding values and culture as very important. After paying an understanding wife in Rock On!!, this role offered me something different to do. I hope to play different roles in each of my films in the future too.”

As for the cast of the film, Prachi says, “I have worked with Tusshar for the first time in this film and he has been very supportive. He is a brilliant actor who has been a guide for me throughout the film. He has the ability to completely take hold of the character he is playing. Every member of the cast was really good. Genelia has also done a superb job.”

Her co-star Govinda is known for his superstitious nature; when asked if he displayed this trait on the sets, Prachi says, “I really don’t know anything about Govinda being superstitious and I have never encountered any such incidents on the sets. He is quite funny and I think that he does the best comedy onscreen.”

As an upcoming star in Bollywood, we asked Prachi to name her favourite Bollywood actors. She says, “I like quite a few stars such as Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit and Kajol. But my all-time favourite is Preity Zinta. She has a way of acting that makes her so lively and realistic. She has always been a pleasure to watch onscreen. As for the guys, I like Hrithik Roshan; he is my all-time favourite actor. He is perfect in every aspect.”

Surprisingly, Shah Rukh Khan is not on the favourite list. Reacting to this, she says, “He is also good. That way, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and everyone is good but I think Hrithik has a unique style of acting and stands out in the horde.”

Although Hrithik tops her list of favourite actors, given a chance Prachi's first choice to work with is none other than her first co-star. She says, “I would like to work with Farhan Akhtar once again. I think he is a great actor.”

Apart from Life Partner, Prachi has also signed for a role in the underworld-based film Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, directed by Milan Luthria starring Emraan Hashmi.

I'm desperately looking for a young, chocolate boy: Prachi Desai

All of a sudden, Prachi Desai is a star, 'kasam se'! Not that she wasn't. She was considered one while on the small screen, but the big screen is a different ball game altogether. And not just a star - she's spoken of in informed circles as the newest version of India's Sweetheart, like Karisma Kapoor decades before.

The film that made her one was Abhishek Kapoor's Rock On, where her sweet rasp and expressive features saw her as a perfect romantic foil for Farhan Akhtar's panicked banker role and a morally tested rockstar.

We spoke with the petite actress on a Sunday morning, almost brunch time though, to talk about her on going rocking life. She cheerfully replied, "It's a different feeling now and definitely a change for the better.

Rock On will always be special for me. But I have to move on and can't stick to the films success always". Listening to Prachi's comment, we move on to Life Partner, her second offering which also happens to be Abbas Mustan's first production directed by Rumi Jaffery. Miss Desai takes me back on how the film landed up at her doorstep.

"When I was shooting for Rock On, I got a call from Rumi Jaffery, who wanted to meet me regarding a film he was making. Because it was my first meeting with him, he did not narrate the entire script to me.

Rumi had one thing very clear that he wanted me to be a part of Life Partner. But I got the film because it was a romantic comedy and I'm sure he must've seen me on the small screen before signing me", said Prachi.

She also isn't in a hasty mood to sign anything. "I have been warned right from the beginning that I cannot afford to be making wrong and hasty decisions just because I'm new", comments the actress.

So is moving on from the small screen to the big screen a hasty or a wrong decision? Answers Prachi, "I think that was a smart move because the daily soap I was doing was about to take a twenty year leap which I wasn't ready for. I didn't want to play a mother of a twenty one year old."

Friendship is where the story of Life Partner picks up from. The said film, as described by Prachi Desai, is about relationships before marriage and how tough it gets after tying the knot. But how tough was it for the actress to be working with a director who made a flop like God Tussi Great Ho was something which she had to answer.

"That's very true. I began shooting for Life Partner immediately after Rock On. After I finished my first schedule of filming for Life Partner, I saw the promos of God Tussi...and then came to know that the film did not perform well at the box office.

More sad to know is the fact that the film got released after three to four years in the making. But that was past and its over. After Life Partner releases, I will surely say - 'God Tussi Great Ho'", replied Prachi.

The actress reveals that she has signed yet another film after Life Partner, but does not want to mention the name of the film nor the director.

All she comes out open with is, "The only thing I can tell you is that I will start shooting for my third film from March' 09 onwards. It's a big production house film. Give me a month's time and I will be out in the open with the name of the film".

To be working with Abbas Mustan is nothing short of an achievement. You have to be lucky and lucky she is. "The first thing I noticed about Life Partner was that Abbas Mustan were producing it.

I would love to work with them under their direction too, as I've grown up watching their films like Baazigar, Ajnabee and Soldier", said the chirpy actress. With so much said and done, I quizzed Prachi on whether she is looking forward to win many awards for her stunning debut performance come Jan and Feb '09.

And to my surprise, in a relaxed tone, she said, "I've already won a debut award in Kolkata where Rock On also won the Best Film. I've also won an award just a couple of day back as a 'Sabse Favourite Heroine' which was showcased on Star Gold. Now I am looking forward for more. I am really happy that I've received these two awards."

Ga-ga over awards, she also cannot stop showering praise on her competitive colleagues.

"I'd heard so much about Mugdha's performance in Fashion that I had to watch the film. I saw it and can now believe what everyone was talking about. Mugdha's role wasn't the typical, sweet heroine types. She was amazing in Fashion.

I haven't seen Adah Sharma's 1920 but have seen Sonal Chauhan in Jannat. She was good too. But the one who is likely to win is Anushka Sharma from Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. She was brilliant. It's a tough competition this time."

With New Year just a couple of days away, Prachi tells us on how she wishes to celebrate the end of 2008 and look forward to a bright and successful 2009.

"I won't be in town. All my television friends will be going out of Mumbai to celebrate our New Year. It won't be as great as my last two because 26/11 has changed all of that. I am not in a mood to celebrate and will keep it low profile", said Prachi.

Well, there was just about time to ask Prachi Desai couple of last questions - one on a bad habit she would like to leave behind in 2008. She said, "I am fed up with my lazy life right now. While doing television, we used to work for 24/7.

With films it's an easy and a lazy life but a bigger and a better life too". And what about that special someone in her life? Will 2009 bring the real 'Life Partner' for this cutie pie? "I am desperately looking for young, chocolate boy; one to suit my type kind of a guy. I don't mind attending college to find my 'Life Partner'."

Prachi Desai already in a controversy

One hit young. And Prachi Desai is already in a controversy. First she's said to have miffed her mentor Ekta Kapoor by refusing to do her film.

Now it's the Bhatts whom Prachi politely turned down, opting out of their much talked-about Jashan. First Sonal Chauhan. Now the suddenly-a-star Prachi Desai getting tremendous notice for her role as Farhan Akhtar's dutiful and beautiful wife in Rock On, has also opted out of the Bhatts' Jashan.

Apparently Abbas-Mustan who are working with Prachi on her second film Life Partner(with Tusshar Kapoor) have the actress contractually bound to ensure theirs is is her second release.

Disarming in her honesty Prachi doesn't beat around the bush regarding the embarrassing cul de sac. "It's true I'm out of Jashan. I really wanted to work with the Bhatts who have done such wonderful work with Kangana and other girls.

I said yes thinking the dates that were with Abbas-Mustan could be adjusted. Unfortunately it didn't work out. Fortunately the Bhatts aren't upset with me. We'll work together again very soon."

As for the supposed differences with her godmother Ekta Kapoor Prachi is cool, "Ekta, her mom Shobha Aunty and I are too close for people to try and spoil our relationship. We don't only share an actress-producer bonding.

I'm like a daughter in their family. And Shobha Aunty is as concerned about my film career. She advised me to wait until the release of Rock On before signing any new films. I'll always be relying on Ekta and Shobha Aunty to guide me through my film career."

Prachi doesn't flinch from admitting she declined a film offer from Balajee. " They had spoken to me about a film. But we hadn't signed a contract or anything. Like I said Shobha Aunty and Ekta have told me to do what is best for my career.

When I left their serial Kkasam Se it was a heart-wrenching decision for me. I had become a part of the Balajee family and I was moving into an area where I had no experience at all. Luckily Ekta encouraged me to do Rock On although the role was that of a wife and mother-to-be and I had to play a woman older than I am.

But then in Kkasam Se I played a wife and a bahu. So I guess those years of experience came in handy when I finally did my first film."

After Rajeev Khandelwal in Aamir, Prachi is the second Balaja breakaway actor to make it big in films.

"What Kkasam Se did for me in 2 ½ years, Rock On has done in 2 ½ hours. People used to say they wanted a bahu like Bani. Now they're saying they want a wife life Sakshi in Rock On.

And to think Farhan and Ritesh Sidwani's company used to get hatemail when they signed me on for their film. People were so upset because they felt a film career was taking me away from television."

Prachi is now done with television. "Going into films was a big risk. I was playing a character I knew little about. I was moving from one medium to another and also to an audience from a different age group. But I had age on my side. Even if I had failed there was enough time to make corrections. I'm so glad Rock On worked."

She credits the reality show Jhalak Dikhla Ja with creating a bridge between tv and cinema. "The reality show allowed me to be more myself. After being the weepy Bahu and playing a woman between 30 and 40 for so long I had fun dancing. I think Jhalak… got me Rock On."

Today Prachi has made her parents proud. "When as child I'd say I wanted to be an actress they didn't take me seriously. At last the people around me are taking me seriously."

BBC to produce next season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa

The third season of the dance reality TV show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” will now be produced by its original format owner BBC.

“Yes, it's true, if there is another season of 'Jhalak...', BBC will be producing it themselves as they have set up their own production office in Mumbai, and this time around they would not like to outsource it to a third party, ” said Siddhartha Basu, head of Synergy Adlabs that produced the previous seasons of the show.

The show, based on BBC's “Strictly Come Dancing” and loosely based on American show “Dancing With The Stars”, pairs celebrities and professional dancers to compete with other pairs in various dance forms on a highly competitive stage.

According to Basu, Sony Entertainment Television, on which the show was aired, licensed the format from BBC, and also commissioned the production from them. Sony TV then in turn commissioned Synergy Adlabs to produce the show.

While TV actress Mona Singh won the first season of the show, actress Prachi Desai bagged the top honours in the second season.

The next season is expected to go on floors in summer 2009 and dance maestro Saroj Khan might be one of the judges on the show.
